Joshua's 'Ready For Love' performance was by far the best of the night.. i really hope people stop using the 'continuous standing o's by the judges thing' as an excuse not to vote for him.. he is not responsible for the judges actions people!! josh has been the most consistent contestant this season, he deserves a spot in the finale with or without the judges pimping him!

I agree. If they criticize Jessica for not connecting to the song or the audience then her take on "Dance With My Father" is restrained, full of emotion and turned a supposedly over-used song fresh to the ears again. It may not be a belting song like we are used to her sing but she's already proven her voice's range and this is a showcase of her artistry.

saying that jess should've sang it and not josh is kind off..(-.-)''..they all have different reasons for choosing a song..in jess's case she needed a song in which she could connect with the lyrics and in josh's case he needed a song in which he can hold back and deliver a clean vocal performance..i don't think that they are particularly 'forced' into any choices considering that adam lambert used to sing the most eclectic mix of tracks..but i do blame the mentor for not talking her out of it..

By that song I mean Dance With My Father being sung by Jermaine Jones in Top 25 night. If she has creative control on her choice of song to sing at performance night I am 100% sure she wouldn't pick that overplayed song. Okay Melinda, what do you really think about Joshua's Ready For Love performance? I think you were showing more restraint than Joshua with your critique. I would love to see your reaction on cam as you viewed his performance for the hundredth time. Joshua's talent level could very very well be a blessing and a curse, I say this because like many, this Wednesday, I will be glued to AI just to see if he can knock these performances out of the ball park as he did with Ready For Love. I've found that people who don't like the song "Dance With My Father" are those who did not have good relationships with their fathers. Unfortunately, that includes the vast majority of music critics. My sympathies to you all. Personally, I like the song sung by a girl, not a guy, otherwise it's kind of, you know.

I totally agree. The standing ovations are so annoying, IMO. It shows too much favoritism & it's getting old. And the way Joshua always screams and then toned it down on the second song reminded me of Adam Lambert. Adam did a lot of screaming with most of his songs, but when he sang Smokey Robinson's 'Tracks of my Tears', it was so beautiful and soft. Sometimes it's best to tone it down & thank God Joshua got that memo. But I have a feeling he's start back this week.

in hollie's case, 'The climb' kind of fit her and her voting demographics..miley might not be the best singer (understatement of the century) but the song itself has a pretty wide range and good message..plus, it was something much more current than 'dance with my father'

Your using Leona Lewis as an example from the Xfactor UK... which has also produced winners such as Leon Jackson, Shayne Ward, and Steve Brookstein... compared with winners from American Idol like Carrie or Kelly It's obviously easy just to pick the very best xfactor winner and compare, but on the whole American Idol consistently produces better

I didn't like that Dave Matthews song that Phillip did at all. Not my kind of music I guess. lol I guess I'm going to have to go with those who said you lost your mind - I didn't see anything all that great about "The Show Must Go On" at all - sounded to me like she was shouting a lot ! Also I don't think she's in the same vocal league as Jessica / Joshua (maybe Hollie though...) - not saying she's not good. Also I kind of wish Jessica would have done "Ready for Love" instead of Joshua . . .

This was Jessica's best performances of the season with 'Dance With My Father' and she has had some really good performances but you crown Skylar's performance the best of the season? I just don't get that. She showed range in it but it seemed so forced.

i think jessica in that instance probably chose that song cause she could relate to it..i mean her father was getting deployed soon..she probably thought she'd be able to connect to the lyrics of the song, a problem that she's been having..and in fact she did manage to connect with the song and lyrics of 'dance with my father'..unfortunately the song itself is just too damn over-played and over-sung in every talent competition..to the point everyone's just like...not this song again..
