The trans oil temp should be between 35 and 45 C when checking. After that you're going to under fill the trans.

One small addition, for the rubber pan gasket, there should be some steel spacers on the old gasket that need to be transferred to the new gasket. This is to prevent over torquing the new gasket causing leaks.

A good point as some of the cheap kits do not include the spacers, although the kit in this video did have them.

Looking at the black stuff that was in there I recommend to repeat the oil change 2-3 times in a row with test drives in between. The filter only do once. After the second change you will feel the difference, it takes up to 4 changes to get back to an acceptable oil quality in the transmission!

WHOA! AT 7:12 he says check temp is 95C. 95C is not correct check temp! 30C -35C is correct. I would assume at the moment he spoke he confused F and C. It would be appropriate to do check temp at 95F. But vagcom doesn't have a "F" setting. Setting your fluid level at 95C will leave it low! Someone needs to edit this video, as folks watching this could be leaving their trans low due to info on this video. .

Hello everyone I have this gear box in my 02 bora 1.9 tdi 130 It's has 88k miles. The car is literally in showroom condition. It's like a brand new car It has a problem! When I'm driving it 1st thing on a morning every gear change is perfect But as it warms up it slips! But it only slips after I pull off from a complete stop. Red light, round about etc This is how, it's pulls away ok which is 1st gear I'm guessing but then as it goes into 2nd it straight away starts free revving like a manual with the clutch to the floor! But as it gets to 3 rpm or so it kicks in smoothly! Other wise it's perfect?! An if I drive off very very slowly there's no problems with the shifts at all. It makes no sense. But I can't pull out of a give way slowly in an ideal world because something could hit me in the side of the car! So I need this fixing Please help Thanks

The gearbox temperature reaches 35 degrees, should you shut down the engine or continue to start?

You need to leave the engine running, otherwise the fluid will drain out of the transmission and you will over-drain.

The car has 216000 miles and i dont know when the autobox oil has been changed and it slips in higher gears at times when you give it alot of throttle and a bit if delay when first pulling off. Would the oil change help or make it worse do you think? Also where can you get parts from. Great video

Thanks for sharing Corey. I just bought an 02 TDI Jetta and I've been hearing the 01m is junk. What do you think? And I hear some people are running there transmission/engine with the cooler line disconnected in order to do a flush. They run it until the fluid is gone or foamy. The theory is it drains all the fluid including the torque converter. What do you think about flushing like this? Do you have any tips to improve this method?
@idparts7 жыл бұрын
01M is not known to be a reliable transmission. At this point most of them are failing or failed. I myself would perform the fluid service twice in a row if you want to get more of a "flush". I don't think running the transmission dry is a good idea.
@cristinagrecu575 жыл бұрын
@ I think this is my case. We had realy belived it is a "sealed"transmission and the car never had the fluid changed for 135.000 milles. It works normal until now when is shifting very hard, starting two weeks ago. Only now I do this search and find out that people change the transmission fluid . I very much hope it still possible a miracle and keep it alife. Was a very reliable car from 2001 to now (Beeatle tdi).

You need to do a video on changing the final drive oil on the O1M as well if you have not done so already. That gets overlooked by many and is a bit of a pain to do. Good job on this video. I'm always sold 4 bottles of Trans Fluid (from imparts) for this job, but have never been able to put in more than 2-2.5 bottles back in. I measure what came out so I know that I put a near equal amount back in at a bare minimum. Also, I heard you say the fluid should be "red". The new fluid is a clear to light brown/amber color. At no point is the fluid or should the fluid be "red". Just FYI. If you have red fluid, you need to flush your transmission as someone put American type ATF in your transmission by mistake!

thanks for the info! How much is your 2-2.5 bottles in Qz?

You said the question I want to ask?? The original color of Volkswagen 01M gearbox oil is similar to the color of engine oil, while FOUSH 4000 is red, but the specification has G052162. Can it still be used?
@cotjocky4663 жыл бұрын
@@P880739 If you have a 01M transmission, the fluid mentioned in the video is just fine for the transmission fluid. The "final drive" uses a small amount of "gear oil" such as 75w/90. If you received an approved transmission fluid from IDParts for your car, it should be fine regardless the color. I personal have never seen a new in bottle fluid that was the correct type for a O1M that was "red" in color. It has always been an amber to brown color. I personally have never used "FUCHS 4000". IDParts seems to change brands of fluids VERY often. They are currently selling a "Rowe" brand. Last I bought it they were selling "Febi Bilstein" brand which is amber/brown in color. OEM fluid is amber/brown in color. Verify you have the correct fluid and if it is, use it. Don't put "American" Dexron/Mercon or Type F fluid in your VW. And FYI "G052162A2" is just the newer superceeded part number for "G052162". It's the same thing.
