Eh, np, I saw the question and I felt it needed an answer :P. Idk if I agree with the phoenix play being cheese, but it is something fairly unscoutable if the protoss has any sentries. Which is one reason I don't like playing vs protoss is that I'm kind of stuck as far as scouting protoss unless I rush muta's or get overlord speed/make an overseer. Could possibly get roach + tunneling to pass the barriers but, that's quite an investment at the end of the day :l

For Idra's standard style of play, yeah. Yeah it is. Idra could've fought back the attacks if he used his queens a little better. A hint that MC was going for something non-standard would've been that 6-7 minutes, no expansion, and relatively small ground army. If you're going off of 1 base and not fast expanding, typically you're going for some sort of pushing early. He's on 2 base and has an income advantage, he should've scouted with an overlord. Benefits outweigh the costs imho.

How? The problem with Phoenix openings is that the Queens cant attack the Phoenixes. Once they lift your Queens all your Anti-Air is gone.

FYI for zerg players: Stalkers deal EXTRA damage to armor units aka(roaches). Thats why they pretty much counter idras force which is mostly roaches, there you can shut up about toss being op.

Ehh, not against protoss, very gas heavy race with stalkers and sentries, so it's not safe to assume double gas = air. For Terran that might be a good guess but protoss, not so much. It's fairly standard to get double gas,

@xxxCRAZYLOVExxx It's just my opinion, I mean, look at mules for one thing. then there's the fact that massed of there basic tier one unit will destroy the zergs most useful air unit in the early game. All they need is really good micro to dodge banelings and then the Terran will dominate, this is all just my opinions, there are other things too, like how fast they can get cloak banshees and how zerg barely has anything to even spot them, let alone kill them, until lair tech.

Gorgeous game. The phoenix play didn't seem too clutch though, I mean it definitely helped MC stay alive against a greedy zerg but the fact that the game lasted 15 minutes should tell you it wasn't game winning... what won was that final engage. MC caught the broods out of position, then melted the hydras with all that AOE. Seemed like a near perfect counter.

Well, your lucky because queens had a buff. On the protoss side, stargate severely delays all your tech and makes almost no room for sentries, without which Protoss will get stomped by ling roach. so just make... another queen? They cost minerals. And spore crawlers.

If there was no comeback, the Phoenix attack did even more damage to IdrA and thus would be even more ovepowered. And MC wasn't even close to good. He saw IdrA's base, with no defenses at all, and still didnt attack or even harass.

Except that it was clear that the protoss had more army the entire game, because without larvae inject zerg is useless. You cant go heavy roach, because you dont have enough larvae. It was clearly shown that the Protoss had a larger army the entire game. Also you wont run out of energy. MC has enough energy to keep lifting all the queens IdrA can produce. Only after he gets a hydra den and gets some hydras up he can force MC away.

I don't think that's a waste :l. Just like I don't think sacrificing a barracks to get good scouting information on the opponent is a waste :l. An overlord is 100 minerals for scouting information that could win the game for you, or show you nothing at all. Just like throwing 4 zerglings early at the protoss might grant you a few probe kills or nothing at all, along with scouting information. That is the zerg mentality, macro up so a single overlord is expendable.

@poofartass actually protoss IS op. it is way to hard to counter 3 gate pressure expand followed by 6-8 gate. its way to hard as a zerg. as for bitching, we think its stupid that its that easy to win. i use to play protoss and it IS way to easy as protoss just get stalker and sentry and you beat zerg

It all came down to Idra's horrible positioning in the last fight. The way he was positioned, it was Broodlords vs blink stalkers (bad for zerg) and hydras vs collosus/high templar (strong counter against zerg). If he kept his units together, he would have won that fight, and the game

and btw Mc's macro just outplayed idra. MC was getting his 5th base and 4 basses were activated perfectly and before the final battle he actually finished the fleet beacon which make mc warp mothership. That's all. MC just pwned idra perfectly with decent micro and macro.

Well, not really. There are plenty of uncommon builds that aren't cheese - specific timings and such, and plenty of experienced players (read: flash in almost every starleague final) use cheese all the time. Now, if you're talking in the amateur world, I will agree that it's mainly less experienced players who will use cheese, because the mind games associated with it in the pro level simply don't exist.
