Does it really matter where you start can you explain it to me thank you

For this pattern, I don't think it matters where you start, because you're constantly turning your pillow to make the inner curves anyway. But in a slimmer or more vertical piece (like a trim), you should start at the very top and work your way down the pattern. (Bobbin lace stitches don't build upwards unless you turn the whole piece and work it from another angle.)

The other answer is almost right. In this type of lace where you are following a continuous design line that joins back to its own start, you can start anywhere but would usually look for an inconspicuous place. Sometimes the line is not completely continuous and in that case you'd be able to find a dead end starting place (usually looking like a road T-junction) and arrive at similar finish somewhere else. You would almost certainly join to the start as you pass it, and finish by joining into another part of the made lace at another T-junction. And sometimes there will be more than one start and finish. Due to the very low number of bobbins used, this narrow-tape Idrija is an excellent lace for a beginner to make and it is an excellent way to learn to do the basic stitches and lacemaker's sewings which join the loops together and make the lacy background. This family of laces are known as either Braid laces or non-continuous lace. The other sort of lace which was referred to is made in a different way, but using the same stitches (like knitting where everything is basically knit and purl). Usually there are more pairs of bobbins and as you weave you are making all of the fabric with no sewings used. Known as continuous lace this family of bobbin lace is almost certainly what is being made if you see a pillow with tens or hundreds of pairs of bobbins being used. All bobbin lace is made using one or the other of these two methods.
