Can We Beat Sonic Adventure DX ONLY Using Sonic?

Thats right gamers, I'm back with another Sonic Adventure DX Challenge. Yall thought I was done with this game now that im doing variety content, but I always come back to some adventuring! We're gonna try beating the entire game ONLY using Sonic The Hedgehog!

{froggy in big's levels getting replaced with the collectible froggy from gamma's emerald coast is actually a feature of the character select mod, normally he's just in his normal state and is impossible to interact with outside of fishing. and i'm guessing most Big levels are too gutted to have any alternate clear condition, emerald coast especially since it's an entirely separate third act that's built off the first act. that being said, i think it should be counted as an honorary clear of the levels, as otherwise you reach the entirely uninteresting and obvious conclusion that nobody else can beat big's levels.}

{and to add on to this, i think the E-series robots are normally entirely untouchable without gamma's lock-on shots (edit: checking charriii5's video on trying to beat the whole game as Big, apparently specifically knuckles can damage the E series robots?? and nobody else can??? wild. this includes Beta, but Zeta has an invisible wall around him, so even if knuckles can trigger Zeta's hurtboxes, it doesn't matter because the hurtboxes are unreachable), the fact that you can damage them at all is another feature of the mod. similarly though, imo these should count as honorary clears, because the alternative is once again an uninteresting and obvious "no" for anyone else attempting gamma stages}

@@5h3i1ah_and_Nik0 I messed with it before with a much earlier version of the mod, and I think I was able to damage them as Sonic. Though, from what I remember, the only way I could do so was with the orbs that appear when charging the Light Speed Dash.

Really cool to watch! Mainly Amy's Hot Shelter. I did every stage with every character and only found you could clip through the first door as Tails, but never knew you could clip through the elevator ceiling. I'll have to keep this in mind as I'm making videos of my attempts later.

I'm just sitting here finding it fascinating that they tied specific level mechanics (like Flight Deck's stage tilting, or the spinning activator thingy from Amy's levels) to the character and not to the level itself. I dont know why, it just seems like it would create more work long-term but I'm no vidya game programmer. I just know some mechanics belong to multiple characters, in some cases poorly implemented considering the differeing scales of the characters in proportion to each other, and it would probably just be easier to enable them for all of the characters who wouldn't access them outside of their own level anyway.

I think it's just spaghetti code. I.e. "when Sky Deck if Sonic then Tilt, if Knuckles then don't tilt" Obviously the code would look a bit more complex, but essentially it's a lot of "if" functions. But I'm no game programmer either, I'm just aware of how some functions kinda work

That secret big area in hot shelter is probably to get the bigger fish that I'm pretty sure never show up in the main area where froggy is at most for the A rank mission Not that I knew because I for whatever reason couldn't even beat the A rank mission in Twinkle Park despite having all upgrades (but I think there was something about an out of bounds upgrade for big to make it easier, either that or even with all three the A rank is a nightmare still)

Sonic can go into Sand Hill in the regular game, just not in Story Mode In the Sub-Game section in the menu you can play in Sand Hill snd you'll always play as Sonic

It's kinda weird hearing the random issues with the switching of characters. Unless I'm misremembering, I didn't encounter these kinds of problems when I was using the SADX Trainer (though for Big's case, I don't think there was a collectable Froggy). This was years before modding for SADX had advanced, so there was like the 2004 PC game with its incorrect windowed resolution that can be fixed by the trainer, the closing of the game if you played in fullscreen but alt-tabbed, the only level mods that aren't rearranged layouts are like two for several years, etc.

In hindsight I should have done the other stories, I think back then I was under the impression that videos should be shorter which is why I didnt do them.
