34:07 The game actually foreshadows this during the fight. Both in dialogue and mechanically. Shadow is destroying his body maintaining the super state (Sonic phrases it as Shadow “disappearing”). He also has progressively fewer rings when you switch to him later in the fight, a trait not shared with Sonic.

So, to anyone who plans to play this SA2Rando mod, here's abit of advice: If you get a stage you don't want to play, or somehow the mod softlocks you by somehow not modifying a stage to be beatable by the character it gives you, you can press L+R+Y on your controller to skip the stage by auto-completing it. The one who made this mod put that in as a failsafe incase he overlooked something to modify to make a stage always beatable, that made it unbeatable by a type of character it gives you. As far as I know, this failsafe code is not documented in what the mod gives you, so not every player of SA2Rando knows this stage skip code even exists

"Why does Shadow die" The loss of Shadow's ring was a hint, but its hard to say if it was intended in SA2. Sonic X more fully established the idea that Shadow's rings greatly limit his power so he doesn't burn out, but again, it wasn't confirmed in the games until Sonic 06 officially showed Shadow taking off his rings to receive a huge power boost. Professor Gerald has this as one of his dialogue options in Sonic X Shadow Generations, settling the issue once and for all. Shadow is far stronger than Sonic normally. However, if he exerts too much power he will burn out. The rings alleviate that problem and prevent him from exerting too much energy so he doesn't burn out. The ending of SA2 implies, but doesn't confirm, that Shadow removed his rings so that they had enough power to use one final Chaos Control to restore the Ark back into orbit. Sonic X explicitly depicts him removing his rings. Another aspect: Shadow probably wanted to die anyway to reunite with Maria. He didn't have much of a motivation to live beyond that point anyway. Meeting Rouge and Omega later gives him more of a reason to keep living after he comes back.
