I did the stage 1 tcu and ECu and holy torque! I'm able to pull on stock 6mt 5.0's and am more or less dead even with stock scatpacks (in rolls obviously). Massive difference! Also, I'm sure you know but now they have their mobile app and its awesome!!

@anaccount7923 oh yeah, 5.7's are slow man, I was playing with those when I was stock. You will have a bit more drivetrain loss and you're heavier so I wouldn't expect to be super competitive with 5.0's or 6.4's in a roll and they will reel you in from a dig pretty quick. It will still feel night and day, just be sure to get a transmission tune as well.

Stage 3 unitronic mk6.5 GLI here(400hp 360ftlbs) and it's a whole new beast. Been on this for about a year and I love it. Highly recommend a tcu tune, I've always had one with any ecu tune. Changes the shift strength and points drives so much better. I have pretty much every supporting mod and then some. Oh get a the BFI motor/trans/dog bone mount inserts stage 1 is enough stage 2 is what I have and the noise is wild, super stiff shakes the hell outta the car.

It's interesting that you went with the low torque file as a DSG owner. Usually it's the manual folks who get the low torque tune in order to preserve their clutch.

It's because he didn't get the transmission/dsg tune, which he should've done in my opinion, even with the low torque file, but going high torque file without doing the dsg tune is errrr... not ideal, so he did the right thing

It’s because I didn’t do the TCU tune haha I didn’t want to spend a grand in one sitting it’s so damn expensive to tune these cars! So I went with a quick stage 1 low torque to save the transmission honestly. I probably could have gone high torque but it’s ok the TCU tune is coming soon and I’ll swap to the high torque file

The only reason why I didn’t to both in one sitting is because 1k was outrageous for both so I just did one and I’ll do the TCU tune soon. But you’re right going low torque for now is definitely the better option. And I’m hyped for the TCU tune! Then on to stage 2 parts so that’ll be fun!

@Aiqw yes we do have to pay separately it kind of sucks. A whole package deal for stage 1 and the TCU is just over 1k USD and just for the stage 1 tune it’s $600 which is a lot. We do have custom pro tuning here in the US but that’s also around 800-900 USD just for a stage 1 without the transmission tune so it can get out of hand haha. Europe has so much better pricing on certain things when it comes to cars for sure

Just a tip is stop shifting too early. Hold the gear to almost redline after the tune. The power won’t really role on til 4500-5000 rpm. Shoring at 2500 is stock ecu driving

If I do that the tires spin because of FWD. the reason I roll then pull and shift at 5500 or so is because, in my feel with the driving experience in this car, it works better that way. It’s not an AWD RS3 or a Golf R. It’s only a GTI and has nothing real performance wise. It’s a mock up of what a Golf R is and it works but not for smashing the throttle all the time. Unless people like spinning tires? I’m not sure, but I see no problem with the way I handle this car. I feel all the power I can without spinning and it’s very fast for what it is

I just did ecu and tcu tune on my mk7 and it makes a huge difference!! The tcu tune is 1000% worth the money!! Did high torque and it’s an entirely new car!

@@rambow70 faster and harder shifts when driving hard. Also removed a good amount of the lag when taking off from a stand still. Also can rev past 4k in park now. Another plus is the car doesn’t hunt for gears as much when I’m driving normally. Doesn’t try and shift up or down every 5 seconds anymore. And I did stage 1 high torque. Love the tunes especially together!

Ohhh damn haha I’m doing the TCU tune very soon on the channel I cannot wait! Stage 1 is great an all and it is faster but the lag is still annoying so I’m happy to know that the lag will be gone and I’ll switch it to high torque too. (Also replying to your other comment by the way). I’m glad the car is smoother though and I’m happy that it won’t hunt gears anymore it can be very annoying to drive it in drive but I need to save that gas lol

Shifting way to early that's why you're feeling the lag because the turbo isn't spooled up properly try 5k revs and above shift changes ... you'll love the car even more and you have to get the high torque tcu or dsg tune . it will not affect your clutch at all until stage 3 tune

Like I have said in other YT videos, Integrated Engineering does not get the recognition that it deserves. I have a Stage 1+, DSG platform, MK6. I did a full rebuild BEFORE the tune and ported the cylinder head on the way. I made sure to have a mechanical boost gauge, 15psi peaking at 17psi briefly. I have gapped several modded STis, Chargers, WRX are cake walk. Besides the tune, customer service is excellent. A year or so has passed by and they still follow up on tuning questions, recommendations etc. Make sure to ask about military discount. 😊 They will ask for your DD214.

Still shifting too early, if you put the gearbox to S it will rev to red line and most of the power is from 5000 revs + anyway, you also need to let the turbo spool up which is the lag you're experiencing

Ayyyy love to see that! It’s definitely a great tune but I wish it was a little bit more aggressive. It does it’s job for sure and is still aggressive just not as crazy as eqt or Apr. But I recommend it because I heard the pops on stage 2 are more nuts than any other tune out there for these cars. If you want pops of course.

You should be shifting at or a bit above 6k as power begins to fall off around 6100rpm with these little k03 turbos (if you look at a stock dyno sheet). Those few hundred rpms youre leaving something on the table.

I had APR stage 2 high torque on my mk7 6spd manual car and I just got a 7.5 DSG car and I'm looking at IE since APR doesn't do stage 2 anymore. I think I'm going to wait on a sale to buy tunes (black friday?) but I've been going back and forth of if I want to do stage 2 again or just save some money with stage 1. The decision is going to come down to if I want more of an exhaust note. My old car was stock catback w/ high flow cat downpipe which was perfect. The IE downpipe w/ highflow cat is a slightly different design than APR's and I'm curious how it sounds. Your car sounds good btw!!

@@ryanpoole1052 I was high torque stage 2 when I had the 6spd and the clutch held up for about 10k miles before starting to slip. You might be able to make it last longer if you wait to get on it above 3,500 rpms

I did not. I was going to it’s just a lot of money at once lol so I’m doing that in a separate video next month! I just installed the low torque 93 file stage 1. Next month when I do the DSG tune I’m switching it to a high torque stage 1 file so it pairs perfectly. In between the month I’m also making a video on the coils and spark plug upgrade you should use while using stage 1. I definitely recommend either unitronic or IE because they are powerful and easy to use when tuning.

So, let me ask you this. Every time you drive your car what RPM’s do you shift at? Every one expects me to smash the throttle every time I accelerate my GTI and I’m not sure why. 5-6k shifting would be early if I was on a track, but I’m on a 30 mph back road I can only do so much. And I also want zero tire spin, I think that ruins the flow of the pull. Just a quick question since a lot of people think I should be shifting at 7-8k

Yeah I get that. I don’t shift at 7k because I feel the car loses control around there and I don’t know I just don’t like it. In my eyes I don’t like the way this car pulls in general, it’s laggy and is missing too much for the price of the car, but it does work for what it is at times. I’m hoping stage 2 makes it a more aggressive beast, but so far I’m not 100% impressed with the overall feel and performance of this car and that’s mainly because of the smaller turbo and the FWD. I need an AWD car so I can just send it at all times and have more fun with it

It’s tough to not drive these cars in sequential. It’s so much fun, plus in drive the GTI’s are not great to me. Gears are always too low and if you hit the gas just a little bit it shifts down to 2nd and takes off for no reason. I also don’t like nailing the throttle on the GTI’s because of the FWD so you get too much tire spin plus it wheel hops and it ruins the pull. I ease into it in sequential and it’s the perfect pull every time. Now if I had a Golf R none of this would matter lol

@@RealSpeed if you looking for proper pulls get a file with decent launch control and use a semi slick tyre. Thats if you worried about traction. You missing the most rewarding parts of a tuned GTI, the launch and low gears with WOT.

I have a 2017 Autobahn that comes with apple carplay factory. The two easiest options is to buy an apple carplay box and have an audio place install it in your factory radio. Or buy the 2016/17 gti radio and remove yours. The 16/17 radio will fit in your 15.

@@RealSpeed You don't need to have the accessport in the car after the initial tune install. You would only leave in connected if you would like to monitor different parameters such boost, afr, knock senor etc...

You do not! With GTI’s you don’t need to have the car tuned to have an intake and an exhaust which is nice. I drove the car with those parts not tuned for about 15k miles and the car great, just needed more power, so I eventually tuned it and shortly after did the TCU tune too which helped the shifting tremendously

Mk6.5 GLI here and I have had a tune (stage 1 to now stage 3) since 25k and now at 95k car has had zero issues in the 4 years of ownership. If you keep up with maintenance these cars are very reliable and capable of handling big power with the stock internals

Heavy cop roads so it’s not very often that I can run going 60+ on those roads. RI and MA are very small states so the speed limits are low and cops are everywhere. When I was in SC with this thing I could do pulls up to 80+ and I’m only going 10-15 over. If I did that 50+ where I live I could get a huge ticket or arrested so it’s tricky. But I had a lucky day lol

5k is a perfect time to shift when daily driving. I don’t ever see myself shifting my gti at 7-8k every time I drive it. Maybe on a track but not on backroads. And the car wasn’t cold when I revved it. It had been turned off for maybe 20 minutes while tuning but I previously drove it right before I tuned it

Yeah back then I couldn’t shift this thing for shit but it was because I was hesitant, not sure what to expect. Now that I know the car better and I’m on a high torque file with a dsg tune, the car feels much smoother. Hitting redline in it still kind of sucks because of the tire spin, that’s why I mainly shift at 5-5500 rpm’s usually, it’s the perfect balance of a good pull and no spinning. Need me an AWD monster next car so I can full send all day

Define performance? And the farts are part of the performance. Pegging the car out on a back road every time you drive it is not performance to me. But that’s just my opinion. Unless it’s a super car however but performance to me is how the car feels naturally driving either in drive or in sequential. So shifting at 5 or so k makes the car feel better than smashing the throttle each time. I mean every once in a while I definitely have some fun but I gotta save that gas sometimes 🤣🤣

Yesssirrr haha it came out a day after I tuned the car with the computer 🤦♂️ but in the next tuning videos you’ll best be seeing me use the phone lol I’m hyped for that!
