After running a JB4 for a couple of years I finally got a Stage 1 ECU/TCU through my local Unitronic dealer. The TCU tune surprised me by how well the DSG shifted in comfort Drive mode. Launches were smoother, shifts weren't so aggressive compared to just having the ECU or JB4 power upgrade.

Mpg decreases, but it costs half of what 93 octane does. My speed3 made about 350 on 93 and 380 with e30. Now I live farther upstate in NY and there's no e85 up here 😭. You'll love how good the car feels running corn juice though, it smells fantastic and pulls way harder, and my speed always felt happier and smoother with corn. Enjoy!

It's funny, I could even tell just with the engine noise that the car was on the stock tune. That extra boost really makes the car come alive

Yeah, things do sound very pedestrian in stock form. I also have the sound aktor turned off so it might be even more noticeable. I never want a stock R again.

@@Vaguh I have a IE stage 1 on 93, catback exhaust, modified airbox and ported cylinder head, aftermarket charge pipes. BEFORE the tune the exhaust sounded louder w a cool rumble, under acceleration had cool rally note. AFTER the tune the engine does have more power on the top end, but somewhat noticed the exhaust got quieter and some of those dsg pops ij between gears. I like the power, but lost some on the low end. Stock turbo, intercooler.

When I went recently there was a stock mk8 R and it went 12.6 @ 108. My GTI on a 93 octane is38 tune went 12.4s @ 110-111 but that was on slicks that were nearly flat and only a 1.97 60'. The traction was great but my Uni TCU tune has a delay when I release the brake pedal using launch control. It rolls out slow at first and then tears out which ruins my 60' times. I wanted to run on my street tires to see how it trapped but never got a chance.

I’ve had one on before and I’ll be getting there soon. Just taking the time to step through each stage and upgrade while trying out various tunes. And I wouldn’t say a downpipe is easy unless you’ve done it before, have a lift, and a second hand (and not trying to record video 😆). Thanks for watching!

@@Vaguh I have a MK7 GLI so I just thought of why it likely is much more of a pain....the rear driveshaft probably makes swapping downpipes much harder I would assume? Getting the factory DP out was a PITA even on a lift. Getting the new DP in wasn't that bad though.

How close were the dragy runs to the track times? Or were you saying it didn’t record any of the runs? We have a track an hour from us but I have a dragy as well. Numbers wise it seems like it’s pretty close as long as there is good connection

Are you saying that a stock r doesn't display the gear you are in? because i brought a "stock" mk7 and mine does display the gear.

When in “D” mode, the factory configuration does not display the gear number next to the letter. I’m pretty sure that’s the same for “S” mode. After tuning, you’ll see “D#” for which gear you’re in. Most all major tuners I’m aware of offer this as a standard feature. It might also be something that is configurable with long coding, but I’m not sure.

Your trap speed stock and tuned is too low, something is wrong with your car. Bone stock my 2017 R consistently ran 12.9-12.8@ 106mph.

I think it’s all highly dependent on conditions and honestly I was hoping for better since I’ve seen some of those times from others as well. I wouldn’t say there’s something wrong. Maybe it’s my fat ass? I’m not trying to make a statement about quarter mile times in either setup. It’s more about the difference between the two where you can understand the gains.

When you did your runs did you make sure to turn off esc and hold the button down until it fully comes off. You should get 2 lights that come on traction control and esc off i believe.
