Thank you Chris for your invaluable videos, your honest approach did wonders for me! Thought I’d share my topics and experience from taking IELTS Sunday. It was a last minute booking, plus being busy with work, left me with half a day to prepare!! Speaking went well considering I’m an introvert. Part II was: Describe a situation when you lost an object. What was it? Where? What you did to try getting it back? Took your advice and added extra content not in the 3 bullet points, otherwise I’d be over in less than 30 sec. Part iii the questions moved towards archeologists, their work, should the findings belong to them or the country where they’re found. Listening and Reading weren’t as hard as I expected. Writing: Part I was a pie chart of AU sources of energy in 2008 and projected for 2030. Part II, something in the lines of “In modern society people are moving towards individuality and very small family units”, “Why is that happening?” and “What are the effects?” I initially thought it was the Opinion type but since they ask why and effects, I assumed it was a given fact. Unfortunately, I screw up tremendously here due to very bad time management. I was aiming for band 8 and spent far too long on task I and when I realized I had wasted 30min already. Consequently, I rushed the essay and with 10min to go only had the paraphrase, main intro and conclusion, no main body on why and effects. I ended up not developing enough and with just 215 words! Now, I just hope to get at least 5.5. Advice to future test takers, consider doing the essay first and then part I. PS: I took the computer based version, if not the essay wouldn’t have reached even 150 words.

Hi again, results are out… what a relief! S: 7, L: 7.5, R: 9, W: 6. Overall 7.5 I was expecting 7.5 from Speaking, but I did repeat myself on 2 occasions and ran out of things to say the last 5 sec of task 2. On the other hand, in Japan you’re required to wear mask at all times, which might have affected the clarity of the speech. Listening, I knew I missed at least in 3-4 places, no surprises. Reading was pure perfection, I don’t think I missed any. Found it rather easy. (For matching paragraphs w/ topics I used your and a British Council strategy, reading the 1st and last sentence of each paragraph and simply “diagonal” skimming the mid part) Writing as I mentioned I blew it in the essay being short, but also realized later one of the arguments/examples was not particularly relevant. Overall I am happy but still think my realistic level is around 8.5. Once again, considering the limited time I had, your videos provided a huge help. To anyone looking to prepare for taking the IELTS, stop wasting time and look no further. This channel is awesome but consider investing in their VIP program.

Thank you for clearing up so many misconceptions. It really puts me at ease knowing all of these. I had a mock exam this week at a nearby prep centre , and I was a bit down because of getting a score 6 in my writting section while having 7 and above in others. I can't even begin with the number of times I have been told to use more complex words, connectors and whatever HIGH intelectual jargons i can come up with... even in my speaking feedback. Doing all that not only took a lot of time but also had me repeating phrases several times exactly like you said. Again, thanks a bunch.

Hi Chris, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your free advice and lessons! I studied for less than 2 months-intensively- following you on KZbin and I got the scores I need. I needed 7 for LRS and 6.5 for W and after all the hard work I’ve got 7.5 for L&R, 7 W and 8 for S. Yes that’ truth what Chris say I watch the video what can do 5 words vocabulary so I don’t know about the trips or tricks. What I did was learned writing &improve what was found Changed the sentence and I got wrong 2 times. It’s not about using a lot of “high level” words…It’s about having the use of “high level” words if you were to need them. So basically have a good amount of vocabulary in your word bank is extremely useful!

Thank you for the lesson, it helps me pretty much! I reached 6.0 in Writing, used to write with large of big words, one of my problems. Another is lack of experiences, especially in social life skills or information. I don't know where to start with, nothing was in my mind whenever I want to describe something, even the most easiest word.

1. use advanced C1/C2 words only if you are totally sure they are accurately used and understandable. 2. do not overuse linking words, especially at the beginning of sentences. use linking words only if they fit the context. 3. correctly use many grammatical structures. range and accuracy both playing significant role. 4. repeat a word if you are not 100% sure about an alternative word. change the word if it matches in meaning and you know how to spell it. 5. never use templates in Writing Tasks! instead of using hook in your introduction, just paraphrase the task's question. 6. Statistics can have negative affect on your score band. instead of using percentages/figures, generalize the data, but save the meaning of your sentence. Example in video: 33:19 7. Idioms are informal, whereas WT2 requires formal language. therefore, do not use them. 8. Write between 250 and 350 words. also, i have a question, is it necessary to use TEEL structure and how it affects on my score? Is it possible that examiners just tired to see this structure?

After analysing topics, I found this video quite advantageous and informative and I guess most students could benefit from this. What's your take on this? Being merely a student, can I tell my teachers that their approach of teaching is wrong as they tend to give exactly the same tips.

Maybe instead of telling them why they're wrong, you could make it positive and show how to check any tips and tricks by using the technique I used in this video? i.e. what does BC and IDP say.

Before I discovered this amazing channel, I was very afraid of Ielts, like most students. We are taught to memorise everything. They always say that we do not need to find out logic. The easiest way for themselves is to throw us all these lists and templates and say "you have to learn complexity". I have never planned to get Ielts just for that reason. I am neither a robot nor a dictionary, language is just a means of communication. Why should I pretend to be a robot? Moreover, why everyone forgets that examiners are just human like us and all we need is to communicate in normal accurate way? However, just 2 days ago my view on Ielts has completely changed. I discovered you and your amazing approach. I have watched almost all your videos. I promised myself to prepare myself not because I need to get points but because I was amazed from your mentality and met my thaugts about exam. We just need to learn (if you want you can use "memorise") this simple language approach and maybe this is the hardest thing about Ielts. Don't be afraid everyone, let's go.
