@Jeff B I mean, theoretically? The quality would be as abysmal as hold music though, obviously. And the kind of combination they do seems questionable at best because that’s not how audio works, to put it simply. Higher frequencies require disproportionately more information, so you can’t just compress them like that.

@Jessie Blosser You could encode the music digitally and then send it over the land line using serial data. Only problem is that it would take 4x as long as the described process and it would only have a quality of 22khz instead of 41.

While I wasn't alive in this era (meaning the ninety's), you gotta appreciate the hard work and genius that went into every aspect of computing. As a software developer, I'm always impressed by old-school programming. You had to fit complex logic into tiny storage sizes, on processing power less than a hundredth of what my Apple Watch has today, and in a bare bones language. These days you write your code in a high level language, and don't think much about optimising it.

Another great video. I absolutely love these videos. I can tell just by looking at it that it must have taken a lot of effort and time to edit and make this one. Also I particularly enjoyed the one with the tape recorder as I never knew that takes had 4 roll things rest, the recording one with the frequencies and stuff I know was fictional. But I absolutely loved the concept that a song being saved via phone line and so much conversion taking place. I like the funny stuff like you ordered knife and shovels and stuff as if u were gonna kill someone and bury them, in other videos too ive noticed this (I remember the coke joke) Also I have been watching your videos for 2 years now. Reckon it could fairly easily using some fairly basic pitch/time shifting then recording using variable tape speed. I just love the clunky but necessary retro workarounds - they’re so well thought out and really brilliant!!

i have bought this device about 4 months ago but it has some problems - the answers are kinda slow to load - the cassette just randomly stops so i have to replay it until it works properly - the program just crashes randomly and goes back to DOS - the answers sometimes are nonsensical or just are gibberish how can i fix this?
