Flat Bench Press is a well known shoulder breaker for many. Still people want to do it just because they can lift more weight. Ego problem basically. Incline bench is a safer option otherwise.

I have switched to dips and overhead press (usually military press with KBs) and seems not only I feel better but also my posture improved. I think, if you don't want to compete and your goal is health and longevity, it doesn't make much sense to bench press.

The floor press is a good substitute and is something I use to maintain strength and is much easier on the shoulders ! Try floor press with kettlebells or a barbell and easy strength protocol helps ! Floor press and landmine press are used by many boxers who have enough shoulder work and want to increase speed and power and promote more of a neutral grip (safer). PS if it hurts the joint stop !

Light flat benching hurts my left shoulder but knuckle push-ups with my hands parallel doesn’t hurt at all! Plus I do plenty of hangs.

Reverse grip bench is awkward at first but it had never given me problems. I can bench with the normal grip fine for weeks and conservatively at that, i will inevitably have some kind of issue

Bench press tends to give my shoulder fits (I no longer do bench), but I can do push-ups with rings and feel just fine. Not sure why, but not complaining. 😊 Also do well with dips.
