Guys, please understand the characteristics of Dr. Fung's patients. I remember Peter Attia once asked Dr. Fung about muscle loss during fasting on his podcast. Dr. Fung's response was very pragmatic: my patients are not bodybuilders; my patients are elderly, obese, and have kidney problems. And he did not observe muscle loss in his patients during fasting. I am currently also pursuing a lean body. I am targeting a daily intake of 100 grams of protein with a meal sequence of high fiber, high protein, and low carb. I also do resistance training and walk for 30 minutes every day. If I don't practice OMAD (One Meal A Day) with discipline, my weight, waist circumference, body fat, and visceral fat will continue to increase. So in my opinion, the advice of moderate protein intake is suitable for most people. For those aiming for muscle gain, consume high protein but practice disciplined cutting with fasting.
@health98182 күн бұрын
As much as I appreciate Dr Fung for bringing out the obvious facts about fasting. He is not the person I listen to about building a healthy muscular body. Nor will I listen to him on how to maintain muscle mass as I age. I am a 60 year old woman at 5'2" 124 pounds my protein intake goal is 110 grams or more.I am on zero meds

It has been speculated that it may be because when you are fasting, nobody is making money off you. People do adjust to dialysis, but how beautiful if we could prevent any person from ever needing 2 needles in their vein at a minimum of 3 times a week. The fear generated should be dialysis and not FASTING!!!!!

Veggies , protein, berries, some other fruit on occasion, good fats.. A big salad for one meal and cooked veggies wirh protein for the second meal . Last year I started doing OMAD , been just over a year now and when I first started I was concerned that the calories were not going to be enough and that I was going to lose muscle mass. One year fast forward, not only I have gained MORE muscle but I have also gained more weight ! ( Apart from starting OMAD I also started hitting the gym 6 times a week and been doing that religiously since last year ) I was 74 kg when I started ( 163 lbs) now I am 77 kg ( 169 lbs ) and I am 1.80 meters tall ( 6 feet tall ) . OMAD has been a life changing experience, every aspect of my life has improved dramatically , my sleep has improved significantly , my mood has been much more stable , I haven't been close to getting sick or feeling sick .. At age 47 I feel like I am sitting on top of the world..!

Now that I eat one meal a day I always do breakfast one day and a regular dinner the next day , but each meal regardless I am having breakfast or dinner type meal I always eat three kinds of seasonal fruits and two nuts ( almonds and walnuts ) with each meal.. As far as the portions are concerned , I am definitely eating more than one meal portion, 1.5 but not 2 for sure .. After having done OMAD for a little over a year now I am convinced that eating is actually a psychological phenomena rather than biological .. Human body was never designed to eat three meals a day let alone four five meals a day ..

Brilliant video Dr Fung putting to bed certain myths surrounding Protein, promulgated by longevity experts responding to this or that new medical paper or research.. I'm a 55 year old male, that resumed a routine of fasting regularly immediate upon being diagnosed with prediabetes. I followed a stringent self imposed regime doing consecutive 72 hour fasts commencing at the beginning of each week for a period of 12 weeks. I'm metabolically flexible, so was soon able to adapt to the strain of fasting. I exercised daily, regularly performing both cardio and some strength training focusing on body weight calisthenics and simple dumb bells exercises at home. Without consuming protein powders or any advertised body building supplementation. Eating modest amounts of protein and sticking mainly to my regular diet that consisted of eating 3 to 4 eggs and one to two tins of sardines everyday. I believe, empirically, I have put on muscle losing body fat around my belly, reducing my waist size from 43 inches to 34 inch in circumference now.
@JAlex-ld2lh9 күн бұрын
And over time, lack of protein can make you lose muscle mass, which cuts your strength, makes it harder to keep your balance, and slows your metabolism. It can lead to anemia, which makes you tired. However, I don't think that fasting itself is what causes this. Chronic lack or reduction would.

I drank just juice all day long for nearly a year and lost the weight without exercise. I juiced daily at least 10 pounds of carrots, 6 apples, pears, celery, anything I could get in the juicer and avoided all other food intake. Who knows how much sugar I was consuming maybe 6 times a day juicing. It worked. I lost the weight effortlessly. I was bored to tears with juice, after losing the weight I went on Atkin's and been on it ever since, eating 6 low carb meals/snacks a day and have kept the weight off.

I'm doing 18:6 IF. Mostly beef and eggs. Sometimes 50 carbs a day, sometimes 100, small portions of sweet potatoes and small portions of pasta. Some Greek yogurt with cottage cheese. Almond milk. Mixed nuts. Wild caught salmon. Olive oil and all natural butter.

I bet your Almond "milk" is full of seed oils.

Almonds are full of oxalates!! Why would anyone drink olive oil and grains!!!??? Rhetoric question. OMG Why people. Why. Are you still so addicted? Then try 4 months pure carnivore it you'll be healed. If you must have carbs, I have no idea why would anyone, but hey, just have cabbage. Not the grains!!! And nuts! That's just ridiculous.

Almond beverage (“milk”) ?? Whatever for?!? It’s like 2 almonds in the whole carton Chew on some almonds and drink a glass of water lol DAIRY milk & cheese is what u need to eat. CALCIUM is main reason for milk, next is Protein then Fat-none of which is in almond beverage 🤦♀️ The indigestible calcium they add now, does nothing. Lotsa carbs tho!

@@YeshuaKingMessiahAlmond milk is all chemicals and artificial ingredients. Hyped by food industry as “healthful.” Definitely not. Same with oat milk. Coconut milk might be decent. Here’s another big issue; 80% of the worlds almonds are grown in California. Almond trees don’t produce a lot of almonds. You need a lot of trees for the supply. Almond trees require a lot of water. Not good when the rest of the state has a water shortage. Next, almonds contain a lot of oxalates. This can cause calcium oxalate kidney stones. Believe me, I know. Used to eat a lot of almonds. No more.

Can you give any advice on fasting and hypothyroidism?
@Amaraticando10 күн бұрын
the biggest advice is: don't fast.

@Amaraticando would like to hear any reasons as there doesn't seem to be any info, recently diagnosed with hypo, thank you

@@Mac-u2n google and chatgpt can provide a lot of research. The biggest reason is that fasting increases stress hormones and inhibit the conversion of T4 into T3, due to low glucose levels most of the time. Some people might feel more energetic or aware, but it's a short term survival mechanism to seek more food. Log term, it only leads to low metabolism, low body temperature, fatigue and misery.
