Thank you, this was so helpful! I've been giving free community yoga classes for the past 8 months (about 2-4 times a month) and one person keeps suggesting that I make them donation-based. I was against it at first, but after some thinking, I came to the conclusion that I probably spend at least two hours on each class, including 1 hour of class and setting up the room beforehand, but also reading up on breathing techniques, thinking about new asanas, etc. I'm now hesitating between making them 'pay what you want' or 'free or pay what you want', but your suggestions were very valuable. I think having a suggested amount can really help students. I have a full-time job not related to yoga so don't need the money, but it sometimes feels disrespectful when people come late or leave without having me set the tables and chairs back up (because the room is used as a lunch room too). Thanks for the food for thought!

Thank you! Great recommendations and website analysis. The wording "optional payment" is clear. The word payment is there even when you have a "join for free" option. Personally, I don't like the donation class concept because to me also implies the support to a charity o cause.
