It's not canon if he was a Seraphim or part of the elders. There is supposed to be 7 elder angels just like there is 7 sins in Hell. When we see the elder angels (none of which have a crown matching Sera's) there is only 6 of them, so Lucifer may actually be one of the elder angels and original leaders of Heaven which would put him above Seraphim in rank and power level. To me, it makes more sense because if he's equal to or under Sera as the High Seraphim then why is she even scared of him? Why would she even allow Charlie in? She's clearly nervous about Lucifer which means there is some kind of power inbalance in that relationship.

The most powerful thing in the show as far as we've seen is *The Evil* mentioned in the intro, but Sera is second only to it from what has been shown. *Why would she even allow Charlie in? She's clearly nervous about Lucifer which means there is some kind of power inbalance in that relationship.* No, she's worried about hell, which has a massive number advantage on heaven(and if the intro is to be believed, the masses can be empowered). Also, *The Evil* seen in the beginning of the show could potentially get into heaven via hell(Sera's line: "There's a lot that you don't know"). I see people try to argue Lucifer is the strongest angel in this show and I don't know why. Him being the strongest doesn't add anything to the plot. He's a Seraphim, second only to Sera among all named characters so far, isn't that enough? Is it just people disliking Sera?

@@brotherkhrayn3525 Not sure which part of the show made you think it's following the bible, the entire conception of Hell is based on Christian fiction in Paradise Lost/Divine Comedy and bears no resemblence at all to what either the Hebrew Bible or Christian Bible depicts hell as. Vaggie has 2 wings just like Husk, does that make Husk an angel? Just because Lucifer has 6 wings doesn't mean he's a Seraphim, he's clearly more powerful than Sera or Emily are, it's pretty clear that he's likely an Elder Angel, who are also depicted to have 6 wings during both the intro exposition in Episode 1 and in More Than Anything in Episode 5.

You were right on the money pointing out that the residents of heaven looked so much like the ones in hell. It’s meant to show that regardless of where you end up, your soul’s appearance after death still reflects your life and death on earth. A good example is Angel Dust and his sister. He ended up in hell as a spider/sinner/demon, while she ended up in heaven as a spider/winner/angel. Both led similar lives together on earth, but Angel Dust fell into sin, while his sister didn’t.

Why do so many people not realise Sera seems somewhat remorseful. Look at her face when she's confronted. She's not like Adam, and Emily and Charlie seem to have affected her somewhat. The only time she appears "evil" is when the flames are in her eyes, which is literally seen from Emily's POV, which shows how Emily sees her at the moment. Obviously, she's far from innocent, but people forget that this show is about, you know, redemption!

​@@anaemiliaalmeida7238Tbf Adam, should have also known that, he can obviously a least attempt things like subtlety and blackmail and has no problem going back on his word, so you would have thought during some time in the month between this and the final battle he would have though "wait can't do that, oh well we can still set a new record in the amount of her people we slaughter" and even if he didn't Lute also knows about the deal and as we saw in this episode can stop Adam making dumb mistakes so she should have done something about it. I'm pretty sure this is just a case of poor writing, they obviously wanted a final battle where Adam fights Charlie, gets killed and the extermination fails but couldn't think of an organic way to have it happen in the 8 episode framework along with everything else they wanted done so their only choice was to have everyone responsible for the exterminatons temporarily dropped to the single digit IQ range to engage in a battle that doesn't make sense to do and they barely have a reason for.

She is a hypocrite and in denial about her actions, but Airier seemed to characterize her as malicious and cruel when ultimately signs point to she's driven by fear and paranoia in a situation she doesn't understand and thinks threatens her home unless she takes the lesser of two evils. There's no mistaking that what she's allowed to happen is wrong and horrible, but I think there's a tragedy to her as well that easily gets ignored by some.

Ngl I think a lot of people give Sera a bit too much shit. Seeing how much more people seem to be going to hell than heaven, if they were to rise up in an united front they'd took heaven apart. They are way more skilled due to being used to fighting all the time. Now give them a ruler to unite behind like Lilith (using her due to the intro of episode 1) they could crush heaven in my opinion atleast. Sera isnt at the top. Shes not evil, shes terrified of any change because she doesnt know the rules shes playing by and upholding. I don't think anyone in heaven does. She doesn't know the criteria for souls getting into heaven or getting denied and she is afraid that any attempt on her peoples behalf to clarify the system will be seen as her people questioning the status quo which could end up with them being damned to hell like lucifer. That's why she is so concerned about Emily's behavior, none of them know the reasoning behind their roles they just know they have to enforce them or risk damnation. They have spent all of creation simply turning like good little cogs in the machine guiding the souls that show up at the pearly gates but despite the backstory in episode one implying that the angels created earth, heaven, and hell there seems to be another force at play here because they don't seem to know how the souls actually "show up".

The Goetia, in actual mythology, are fallen angels, so sharing a bird motif with other angelic entities makes sense. And with hell being a corruption of the afterlife, it makes sense that it resembles a twisted version of heaven. That corruption is also believed to be the source of Sera's reticence with dealing with sinners. Hell is a cage for Roo, short for Root-Of-All-Evil, the literal incarnation and source of all evil in the HH universe, even contained their darkness reaches out corrupting all it touches, which is why earth is as shitty as it is. It is thought that the requirement to enter heaven is simply, "don't let her (Roo) in" thus why Adam got in despite being a bag of dicks, Roo had no presence in creation until the apple incident. Airier completely misreading Sera is hilarious. The ranking angels are assigned roles. They can't stray from their positions. She fears that if they do, they could fall. Sera wants to protect Emily. Even when Sera is alone with Adam and Lute, she states that Adam's job was to keep the demon's unrest. That Charlie is misguided, yet she doesn't bad mouth Lucifer. Sera and Lucifer pretty much view Sinners in the same way. There's definitely some hypocrisy when it comes to human souls, but I wouldn't sweep everything Sera is saying under the rug. Especially since they only exterminate Sinners and keep it contained in the Pride Ring. And that's another thing. Sinners kill each other, but eventually respawn because Hell is forever a punishment. They even tell us this in episode 2 with Velvet's model being torn apart. The extermination is a big hit because the Exorcists can erase human souls. Sinners killed by them don't ever come back. My theory is that I think the Ars Goetia are Ex-Seraphim. If you notice the golden statue on the courtroom, it could be mistaken for either one. The hellbourns tend to be descendants of those who rebeled with Lucifer. The visual storytelling of this show is fantastic so i wouldn't be surprised.

Its really a wonder how Demons could rebel when its implied by Adam and Lute freaking out how Charlie and Vaggie got inside Heaven in the first place. Like we know Angels and the Ars Goetia could open portals to different realms, but Demons cannot. And its common knowledge that Lucifer is the only one in the Pride Ring that could open a portal to heaven (Blitzo and IMP are relatively infamous plus they can only open a portal to Earth and not to Heaven). So how would the Demons even manage to revolt and rise up against heaven when they're trapped in Hell? Surely they can't even standup against Lucifer who could simply just go to another ring or through a portal he makes and leave them stranded.

Honestly I take it as adam or some other part gave the pitch to do that but most sinners and the like I feel under lilith song could rival the Angels. It's why she agreed to it. She fears a uprising. If the powers of hell actually worked together I think most Angel's and souls there would lose. But they cant due to their natures and everything. A few other things: 13:06 - The exterminations were Adam's idea and he completely relishes in them in contrast to how Sera reluctantly approved of it because she was under the assumption the demons were uprising and is still remorseful over them. 30:49 - She clearly had a remorseful look on her face. 32:14 - Sera clearly isn't OK with it and nobody in Heaven is either, which is why she wanted to keep it a secret. 32:38 - That image was from Emily's perspective of how she's seeing Sera at the moment. 34:44 - She was disgusted at Adam's pettiness, saying they would start the exterminations at the hotel. It had nothing to do with Charlie. 35:08 - Everyone in the courtroom, not just Sera, was displeased with his behavior. That's why he backed down. Sera doesn't strike me as a bad person. I think, like she said, that there is still a lot we don't know about the poilitical aspect of Hazbin Hotel. She really seem to be afraid of something, a dark force we haven't seen yet, or maybe Lilith herself, who is said to have give power to hell while Lucifer hide in misery. Or maybe Lucifer himself, a fallen angel more powerful than any demon, or Charlie, being half angel herself. All Charlie has heard so far is the positive version of the mytheologye of heaven and hell, she respect both. the point of this episode was to show us even angels doesn't know why some souls got to heaven while other are stuck to hell. We don't know how it's decided but it doesn't seem to be in her control. And we don't know if there is a higher power than Sera in heaven, but it may be capable to banish someone as important as Lucifer. And she fears that if Emily starts to question this order, she may suffer the same fate, or even Sera herself.

I agree. Sera could well be placed as the Big Bad but I don't think the writers are conveying that. In the conversation with Adam she says she only agreed with the extermination because she didn't think it would let trouble reach heaven, and later when she makes the ruling that there can be no redemption via the hotel it is after she has admitted that humans just appear in heaven and that they believe this shows they are worthy. Despite the sinners showing they can do the right thing whatever makes that decision has not allowed them into heaven so there is no evidence that it can be done. As to supposition I still think the Big Bad is actually Eve who is the avatar of Evil that Lucifer's actions allowed to enter the human world. I also think it is this that Sera is scared of getting into Heaven. The opening episode has Adam moving up the exorcism because one of the angels died but most of Heaven probably think it's just because Angels are dicks. Just suppose that Adam and Sera truly think that the Evil is gaining power and the intimation that more people go to Hell than Heaven is clear proof that Evil is slowly winning. If this is the case then Adam would always justify the Cleanse with some other reason than admit they may be losing. Irony may be that the sinners believe the yearly cleanse to just be meaningless cruelty while the angels see it as continuous battles against an unending horde and the dead angel proof that they could lose.

Eve then made a deal with a young wendigo named Alastor helping him to build up power by killing her rival overlords and finally when he had the power to do so she sent him after Lilith who fled to Heaven where they could not follow her. We have seen demons with bad intentions, they are not as well intentioned as Charlie. And we know all angels aren't as sweet as Emily. I think we are missing pieces, and if Sera is a bad person, so is Lucifer. We still don't why Lilith is now in heaven and what deal she made with Adam. And we don't know where Eve is either.

She in the absolute top brass of Heaven(only below the Speaker of God and ranking above Lucifer as she is Head Seraph to his Seraph) and Emily is basically the Charlie of Heaven in terms of how high she ranks. Adam is the General of Heaven's entire military and Sera outranks him by far. She's also directly shown creating humanity.

Nobody is allowed to leave Hell, while Heaven’s denizens can go wherever. Heaven can get away with slaughtering Hell’s population for basically any reason, while Hell’s people can get killed even when they follow all of Heaven’s arbitrary rules. Hell is deliberately denied the opportunity and resources to change for the better; even if they managed to make some small improvement, all of their progress would be lost after each Extermination, so there’s no motivation to change because what’s the damn point? Hell is an oppressed majority trapped in an open-air prison owned by Heaven’s ruling elite.

Ok, you’ve finally made it to Episode 6, now I can mention the hints in prior episodes that Vaggie was not a sinner or hell born. In Episode 1 Vaggie is trying to tell Charlie how the angels are, but Charlie like most of the people watching were too focused on a ‘Happy Day in Hell’ song. Vaggie was describing Adam and Lute, because she knew them. In Episode 3, while on the roof, Vaggie says “How long are we going to stand by and watch ‘your’ people be killed.” If Vaggie was a sinner she would have said ‘our’ people. In Episode 5, when Lucifer is talking about how heaven and the angels are, Vaggie turns to look away. Like she is ashamed of how her kind have been. Also she is afraid of going back. Which is why she was so hesitant of going back. Finally during this episode every “exciting” thing in Heaven is just not interesting since she’s seen it all before. Oh and her having the big X over her eye and wielding an Angelic spear. Needless to say the clues were there. Although I finally noticed on my 5th or 6th watch through…. So many reactors… lol

So with regards to Sera, yes, she IS a Hypocrite… BUT, I do firmly believe that she does TRULY Love Emily, as Sera’s character reminds me a lot of Cornelia from Code Geass. Cornelia is both an Imperial Princess of Britannia, and a General in the Britannian army, and in order to keep her father happy and her little sister Euphemia (who Emily also feels very similar too) safe, Cornelia literally slaughters THOUSANDS, on a near daily basis on the field of Battle, soaking herself in blood to be recognised as the greatest General in Britannia, so that she has the power to keep Euphemia under her protection (specifically, protection from their father the Emperor, who would not hesitate to use Euphemia as a political pawn if it suited his goals). In Sera, I see a lot of Cornelia, doing what she at least believes is required to keep Emily safe. Does that make it right, of course not, is Sera gonna get a firm reality check down the line, oh very much so, but until we see further evidence to the contrary, I do not think she is evil. Hypocritical, Rigid and unwilling to accept change, yes… evil, no, not until we see a her commit a truly evil act. I do have a theory though on how we reached this situation. Pay CLOSE attention to the very LAST scene in episode 8, as stuff is revealed there that is pertinent to this theory, but the basics are as follows. Adam, and a certain someone who shall not be named as I don’t do spoilers, convinced Sera that Hell was preparing for war against Heaven. I’m also of the belief that Sera is not TRULY the leader of Heaven, and is simply keeping the seat warm for someone or something else… so when she hears about a potential uprising in Hell, she predictably, Panics. Add in the fact that she truly does care for Emily and we have even MORE fuel to add to that panic fire. Seeking a solution, she turns to Adam who brought this information forward and inquires if he has any suggestions… at which point he recommends the Exterminations, remember Sera’s line, “I never would have agreed to your Yearly Activities if I thought it would bring trouble to our doorstep.” Sera was NOT the one to suggest the Exterminations, Adam was, Sera only went along with it because she is OBSESSED with keeping Emily, and by extension Heaven, safe, but had she known how things would turn out, it’s possible she may have shut it down. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that doesn’t sound murderous to me, more conflicted. She understands what she is agreeing to is wrong, but goes along with it because she believes it gets her what she wants, protection from the monsters at the gates. There is so much still to unpack with Sera, but I’m confident that she will have a turnaround eventually… the tragic part however is, this turnaround may come with a price, and I'm TERRIFIED that the price will be Emily.

In terms of Angel ranking, Seraphim are above archangels and regular angels. Lucifer is a Seraphim. It’s how he’s able to pull strings in Heaven, and Charlie’s half Seraphim.

Pretty sure Lucifer is above the Seraphim. If anything, the Seraphim are the heaven equivalent of the Goetia, meaning they are rank 3 in the hierarchy, if one even exists in heaven. Remember that in hell Lucifer is number one in the hierarchy, there's no reason to believe he'd have anyone above him in heaven except for God itself.

Me personally i dont know why they relied on Adam to know how a soul gets into heaven, thats something god would know if none of them did know. Adam is a hypocrite. A murderer. Etc etc, not someone to be trusted. And the fact that he turned around to scribble down what was required should have been a big red flag to start with.

I think Viv is afraid of Christianity's warthog the moment God is even slightly described in other sources than the bible. Sure God been used for references and punchlines in comedy mostly but nothing serious and his characteristics weren't that far off from the bible anyway (mostly described as calm figure when talking with his creation, understanding, making points, patient etc.). People already did that with Muslims many times and their threats have been fulfilled and been mostly deadly among with tracking down people who dared to do *any* portrayal of God, his personality and their religion in any form. Can only hope Christianity won't be the same way, because it seems to they started to go the same route again quite recently. Besides that it's really hard to put God in the story, since he can just make whatever and making heaven hypocritical would cause huge amount of whining, because that would mean calling God hypocritical. Since he is the one making the rules in biblical canon.

So far the show seems to be acting like God doesn't exist in the setting since the angels were described as the ones who made the world and all. So as far as we know Adam really was their only source of evidence on that.

I think you completely misjudged Sera. We know where extermination came from and why it is repeated regularly. Lucifer was also involved in this decision. Maybe Sera cares too much about Emily, but she's definitely not evil and doesn't derive any pleasure from it like Adam and Lute, for example. It's not Sera who decides who goes to heaven and when, and as she said, not all the rules are strict and you simply don't know about many things. Have you noticed that in Lucifer's song, when he shows little Charlie the glow of a bird with wings, this bird closely resembles the form of Sera when we see her at the very beginning?

Emily referred to sinners as human souls and people, and Sera, even while acting like she feels bad about the exterminations, only calls them demons, showing that beneath her “guilt”, she still refuses to acknowledge Hell’s citizens as people. What I find interesting about Sera is that she doesn't seem to be malicious in the same way Adam and Lute are or even to really like the exterminations. She seems to genuinely be concerned with the safety of Heaven and those in it, but she's too afraid to investigate or question things she doesn't understand because of the consequences she fears would come from going against how things are or whatever reason they are that way. At the very least, she doesn't strike me as genuinely evil so much as unwilling to take any risks with the status quo because she's afraid of ruining everything by doing that. Her critical flaws are cowardice and hypocrisy.

13:00 Because Adam even with all his flaws is human, he has the excuse that humanity isn't perfect (doesn't excuse him of his actions but it is a reason). Sera here (at least to my understanding of the lore which isn't explained enough since it's rushed to only 8 episodes, there's no God or Jesus equivalent ever seen so we don't know who is in charge) as far as we know is THE head of heaven and has to be that example for everyone below her to follow. Any flaw or evil action she commits, there are no words to explain how significant of a problem that is.
