This is a fun, yet unnerving fact. You notice when Valentino spits up red gunk from his mouth occasionally or when he smokes the cigarette has regular smoke while when Val exhales it’s red. That’s because like real world moths and other such insects they secrete pheromones. When he licked Charlie, he tried to turn her into one of his sex workers, I don’t know what the term is for it but because she’s half human, half angel, and part demon she was immune to his advances and to his pheromones. That’s how Valentino has so many underlings in the adult film industry, how he got Angel to sell his soul to him, and why he became an Overlord of Hell. He knows how to manipulate others with his tantalizing saliva, which is not only disgusting but it’s genuinely terrifying. That’s the “poison” that Angel was referring to. Val saying this in Episode 2 supports this fact as well… “Just put something inside them, that’s how I get the bitches to behave.” Furthermore that Loan Shark who tried to spike Angel’s drink had a love potion, that love potion was actually made by Velvette, another one of the Vees by using Valentino’s saliva. Yeah I think it’s safe to say that not only is he the one of the most cruel and evil Overlords and sinners in Hell, but he might very well be the most dangerous of the Vees, even more so than Vox. Much lighter-hearted fact, Val actually squeaks when he moves sometimes like how real Moths do. If you go back to the previous episodes and listen closely you can hear squeaking in any scene he’s in.

Also the thing that might add how Angel got into the fangs of someone like Val is because he was in a mob and his family didn't tolerate someone like homosexual, so he had to hide it and do it secretly. When he arrived in hell, Angel probably realized that he is not that caged anymore and tried to live his life to the fullest. He might have found someone that know Val.. and that's how he got there. Also his mob family had ancestors (or did come directly) from Italy.. Antonio is the italian name, but since Angel Dust was born in America, Anthony makes more sense. Might be that both names are true - his family calling him 'Antonio' but he likes the english version better. And yes, Angel Dust is his stage name. Also it's probably wiser to not say their true names.. until you are called Charlie or Alastor.

Val, giving him the illusion of control but still literally holding him on a leash With Husk he treats Angel like an equal even though he’s the one leading he lets Angel make his own moves 8. I’m willing to bet Anthony became Angel Dust long before Valentino because he didn’t like who he was or the things that happened to him as Anthony

Said it before, and I'll keep saying it. Love Val's body language and how he's drawn in this episode. With Charlie he actually speaks to her at eye level as an equal. With Angel/Anthony there's rarely any shot he isn't made to be this towering or looming presence over him, forcibly placing himself in a position of power over our boy so often even the camera follows the trend. It helps that he's designed to be genuinely one of the tallest Overlords. Hell, I think he might even be taller than Zestial himself. Dude is definitely like... 10 or 11 feet tall, at least. Also, for reference, Charlie's level of power is no secret. Everyone knows she could eliminate like... Every sinner in hell with a flick of her wrist, Overlord or not. It's just that how soft and pacifistic she is also isn't a secret. Remember, she's 200 years old. Plenty of Sinners would know how she thinks by now, even without knowing her personally.

Yeah. Charlie is a major power house, but as we saw with Vaggie bringing it up, she refused to flex her might so to those like Val all he has to do is get Angel Dust worried for her and he wins. If Angel didn't step in Val would be in for a world of hurt if not dead. But because Val knows how to play Angel Charlie backs off.

I think it definitely has something to do with how forceful he was, but I think Anthony was gonna ask her leave regardless. Anthony, as aloof and uncaring as he portrays, greatly values Charlie's innocence. The moment She gets angry at Val enough for her demon form to start showing, Anthony likely would have stepped in to stop her from doing something she'd regret.

Yeah, if it were that simple, I'm willing to bet that Angel would have considered it. I expect the stipulation would be against people interceding on Angel's behalf. The only way out would be if someone took Val out independently of Angel and not for him. But that's just speculation, it could very well just be Valentino gaslighting Angel into thinking no one can help him. Perhaps we'll find out in season 2.

I just remembered the posts they made lining up with articles i had read and thus the bonus knowledge past the base info of the relationship.

I am struggling to find the info too. The wiki page for the wooly crab spider isn't helpful, as it just says they're prayed on by parasites without elaborating. Apparently moths of the Miltochrista genus can sometimes lay eggs on silver spiders. Thats not the relationship you're talking about though. Scarlet bodied wasp moths (which are moths) have super striking red colors and males use toxic pheromones from their wings. Apparently the pheromones excite females and drug up spiders, but it's used to drive the spiders away instead of go after them, so it's also not what I'm looking for. Most moths aren't parasitoids, so moths mimicking spiders and wasps attacking spiders keep hogging all the google results ☠️

Interesting little factoid. This is kind of revealed in a later episode but it pertains to Angel's contract. Apparently Valentino has rights to do whatever he wants to Angel while they're in the studio. That would likely explain why he was so pissed when he found out Angel moved to the hotel. Angel's "room" was likely inside the studio, letting Val do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. But now, since Angel lives in the hotel, he's more limited in terms of when he can abuse Angel.

One thing I want to clear up so you aren’t confused is that the sinners in hell basically are the human souls that have taken a form relating to their sins and how they were in life. With them being souls, a soul contract like what Husk and Angel signed is basically them signing away their whole being into basically slavery for their overlord. And in both Hazbin Hotel and in Helluva Boss, the shows are full of references like these. Charlie is indeed more powerful than Valentino. The Overlords are only mid-rank in terms of power in the official hierarchy, below the Ars Goetia, Seven Deadly Sins, Charlie and Lilith, and Lucifer. HOWEVER Charlie lacks the will and mindset on actually using her power because she's a doormat who does not like harming others Charlie IS the strongest person in the hotel, Alastor doesn't even come close to her power. On the topic of how Angel Dust died. He died of an overdose of PCP, also know as angel dust after a lifetime of emotional abuse at the hands of his father, and trauma brought about during his service in WWII. Kinda fucked he named himself after the drug that killed him.

Reddish/Pinkish drool is something we've seen multiple times from multiple characters. Vox in episode 2 during various shots. Alastor in his full Wendigo form in Episode 2. Vox and Valantino here in episode 3. Also, here in episode 3, Angel. Literally right as we cut to the final portion of Poison with him in what I assume is his room at the studio we see him wiping away pink drool. We don't know what it means, or if it's even meant to have any sort of deeper connotations at all, but it's an interesting detail nontheless.

The scene during Angel's song with Vox was the past when he still thought that Valentino loved him and had already made the contract imo. And the moment when Angel realized that he is in a toxic relationship with a person that only extorts him. It was already hinted in Ep. 2 that Valentino is Vox's boitoy and there will be one more hint of them having a relationship in the final episode. So the balcony scene here was when Angel realized that Valentino did never love him but only a person of true power aka Vox. At least that is my head cannon for it.

it's been pointed out that the scene where angel screams at charlie to leave after valentino demands it of him, among many other thing,s is tied to how abusers will often make their victims feel like the abuser is SO powerful noone can DO anything so they actively reject help thinking noone CAN because they beleive their abuser is just that powerful. So Angel may not accept charlie's help partially cause he's scared Valentino will hurt her, not realising that as the princess of hell Charlie is jsut naturally more powerful than a sinner like valentino, all angel's knows is if Charlie tries to help him Valentino might hurt charlie and will DEFINITELY take it out on angel either way. he thinks her even trying is fruitless.

social hierarchy photos of the series indicate that Lucifer is the highest ranking being in Hell, charlie and lilith are below him, the Sins and Goetia are below those two in this order and the Overlords are under Goetias. so if we also take this in terms of power, charlie can wipe the floor with Val if she was given the chance. also i looked up the definition of pimp because i knew the word but not what it entailed in its entirety. here's the definition: Pimps typically use a variety of psychological methods of manipulation to persuade recruits to conduct sex work, such as flashing money around, seducing them, entering into romantic relationships, convincing them that they may as well make money if they’re already having sex, or having other female employees sell the idea.

I wouldn't say it's weird for them to 'keep their soul in Hell', I'd say it's the entire point. The Soul is the thing thats damned for eternity, you leave your body behind, get slam dunked down there, so their 'Bodies' down there that regenerate when killed other than angelic weapons and probably super spooky demon magic from high tier demons, are 'Manifestations' of the soul, which would explain why it has characteristics based on how they lived and died, as determining markers. I do understand the concept is strange though.

I think the notion is that you keep ownership of your soul when you initially get to hell, since that the only part of you that gets down there. Like you can live independently as you wish. But that bartering your soul with a demon/overlord then contracts you to fulfill certain act according to circumstances of the ruling party’s choice; such as Angel having to do anything Val wants when in the studio.

Both AngelDust and Husk (likely Nifty too) have made soul deals, well we don't know much about soul deals we know all Sinners can make them (and Charlie being half-human) and it's their very soul that binds the contract so there's no way to void or destroy them, so it's unlikely Charlie could help except *maybe* killing Val but it's unknown. Also hellborn lack human souls so they can't make these deals. Both Husk and Nifty were depicted in the pilot alongside Alastor as shadows when Vaggie was talking about Overlords so Husk being an Overlord was forshadowed and maybe Nifty was one too.

Heyo, know this was a couple weeks ago but I have a problem with people being like "Ugh, if only he asked Charlie, she could have surely just torn up the contract!" There is nothing to suggest that she could do that, and I think it's incredibly wishful thinking to assume there's any way that just killing Valentino would solve the problem. As far as I can see it, the only way that makes sense would be if someone sufficiently powerful, but moreso evil, such as Alastor or another Overlord, were to threaten Val with some sort of fate worse than death, or perhaps the destruction of his business in order to force him to void the contract. But no, I don't see any reason why Charlie would be able to do it.

I assume the reason he uses his third set of arms minimally is the same as from the pilot- it makes him harder to animate. 40:20 I remember reading a fan theory that most Sinners go by an alias instead of their real (human) name because there might be certain factors in Hell that hold power over someone by their real name, so an alias would be to prevent other demons having power of you (unless you're making a contract for your soul, of course). Angel is a special case where his alias seems to be about three things all at once- the drug (for him being a drug addict), his stage name, and his drag name.

I think Charlie's main issues have to do with her absentee parents. I also think its part of why she feels she needs to prove herself. Shes the daughter of two of the most powerful people in hell which would be difficult shoes to fill in a normal setting, but would be even harder when you dont have either of them to lean on for support.
