Interesting one. It looks like somebody put some thought into the audio section to deal with overvoltage. Interesting to watch the point where some of the mechanical parts strip at higher voltage/torque. "Tickle Me Elmo" becomes "Possess Me Elmo" and starts needing an exorcism.

@@Abigblueworld The audio section is electronic and probably runs somewhere between 3 and 5 volts DC. Elmo's normal voltage is apparent 9V so there is probably some circuitry to step that down. My guess is that the stepdown has a pretty high tolerance.

If you studied a speaker you know it cant work on plain dc, it requires a special audio signal wich a chip creates and that typically burns first hence the toys sound stops working and not because the speaker blew but the chip blew, a speaker is just like a motor a coil and can handle high voltage but a chip not. So please learn about chips and the audio signal and audio chips that generate that signal and that a speaker cant work on plain dc, add that to your lessons

Interesting that that audio CHIP (i put it in captuons for the people who say "wow what a resistant speaker" and not "wow what a resistant audio chip" because a speaked cant work on its own it needs a signal that drives ir and the audio chip generates that and thst blows first typically) survived the full voltage, i bet there is a 7805 or some lm1117 or some other voltagw regulator that steps down the voltage to 5 volts for the audio chip AND THE SPEAKER

I was thinking pretty much the same thing watching this once he started cranking up the voltage, most of the other toys died not much higher than their normal voltage. I agree it must have some kind of voltage regulator for the main audio circuit with the motor relying mostly on the main battery as I noticed the motor speed was affected by the higher voltage, I have some old sears (late 80s/early 90s) rc vehicles that uses a 9v battery for the cars receiver, but with a 6 cell nicd rc pack for powering the motor.
