Glad to see Monstrosities hit the list, a lot of us worked really hard on it. EDIT: Six. Ah. Well I'd say the AD&D2e Monstrous Manual as it's the D&D monster manual to end all monster manuals 5 OAR 6 - Temple of Elemental Evil. I have such a history with this module both playing and later running it that I couldn't part with it. 4 Wilderlands of High Fantasy (Necromancer box set) - enormous hexcrawl I could probably spend the rest of my life trekking through with players. 3 The Dungeon Master's Guide. Everyone knows which one and furthermore, why. 2 Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2E - My favorite game for quite a few years, it has never been improved upon. 1 Worlds Without Number - Wonderful tools for GMing sandbox campaigns. I have already been getting rid of other forms of D&D from my collection after finding this one because I can't find a use-case where I would play another version over this one. It is the best of the OSR.

I normally don’t comment but why the hell not! It’s an intriguing (and moderately upsetting lol) idea. #1 - Cortex Prime Game Handbook. My personal favorite system and the one I absolutely could not go without. #2 - Mythic GM Emulator. Great tool for solo gaming and even simple randomization. #3/4 - Pathfinder 2E Core Rulebook & Bestiary. I’m a sucker for this system, absolutely love it, and the content within would give me ages of gameplay and fun. #5 - Savage Worlds Adventure Edition. I really like the system and can use it (alongside Cortex Prime and the last entry) for a different tone of a genre less game. #6 - FATE Core. Another great systemless game, my least favorite on here, but I can’t ignore its sheer versatility. As all can see most of my choices are based on the longevity of my ability to use them combined with their sheer versatility, and my personal enjoyment of their mechanics. There were quite a few that didn’t make the cut unfortunately, wanna give them honorable mentions: Forbidden Lands. If this game were 1 book instead of 2, it would’ve made it. Worlds Without Number. An absolutely amazing system with crazy DM tools, but just the core mechanics don’t appeal to me Quite as much as the above, though it’s Painful to lose all those tables, this would be my #7 hands down. Ironsworn. Fantastic solo rpg with some great tools and ability to be hacked! Dungeon World. Same PBtA system as Ironsworn but also another great rules light system. The Burning Wheel. If only to actually learn the system for once, it’s obtuse and I love and hate it.

Good one. 1. Gamma World 1e, because it was my first. 2. Swords & Wizardry Complete. Covers my classic fantasy needs. 3. DCC. Covers my over the top, interdimensional fantasy. 4. Traveller Book. All my scifi needs. 5. Rifts. Kevin put me in a supplement (well, technically my grandson) so it goes on the list. 6. Champions 4e, the BBB. Covers my supers needs. Shout outs and honorable mentions. Classified, a retro clone that takes the 007 Rpg and strips out all the IP. Call of Cthulhu. GURPS 3e; love it, but it only really shines with all the supplements and worldbooks. Edit: how could I forget Dragonquest? Only off because of all the fantasy on the list already.

Fun question! I would keep my own home-brew rules BeaR-Pigs, My combined B/X print, the original DMG, Lankmar, City of Adventure, Keep on the Borderlands, and Isle of Dread!

Good list! ICRPG Master Edition is so densely packed with goodness. It's at the top of my list too. I also love Worlds Without Number as it can work as well as a GM supplement/toolbox as a system on its own. Wanting to dip my toe into Pathfinder 2e to experience the exact opposite end of the crunch spectrum from ICRPG, but from what I've seen, the core rulebook looks to be a pretty awesome tome unto itself. I may need to check out your Monster book recommendation if it's so widely applicable!

My 6, in no particular order (which I posted before watching the video or reading any comments): 1. The original Dungeon Master's Guide (by Gary Gygax) 2. The Burning Wheel (Gold Edition) 3. Hackmaster Player's Handbook (4th edition) 4. Symbaroum (Core Rulebook) 5. Warhammer Fantasy Role-play (1st Edition) 6. Old School Essentials Honorable Mentions: While I have a great appreciation for PbtA games and Blades in the Dark, what I mostly got from those books is a better understanding about how RPG's could be played, and the value of narrative-driven cooperative storytelling. Those are books I consumed, and which influenced the way I approach this hobby, but are not books I often refer back to. That is not to say they are not good games or good books, but I only get 6 is the issue.

Thanks for the plug. I do enjoy the Survive This books. We got part of our DP&D game tomorrow night. I love ICRPG. Haven’t upgraded to the Master Edition yet but I have the update that explains the difference between the editions. The Monstrosities book look interesting. May have to pick that one up.

Hmm if I could only have 6 RPG books? Mongoose Traveller 2E Core Rules, Mongoose Traveller 2E High Guard, Mongoose Traveller 2E Central Supply Catalog, Dungeons and Dragons Rules Cyclopedia, Rules Cyclopedia Creature Catalog, Vampire: The Masquerade Revised Edition core book. Would have a nice mix of games there with science fiction being covered, fantasy being covered, and horror genre being covered. Not to mention the framework of the Storyteller System that can be used to spawn a number of different genres of games. Now if we are talking only keeping 6 books in general Id say my list is: Dungeons and Dragons Rules Cyclopedia, Mongoose Traveller 2E Core Rules, Vampire the Masquerade Revised Edition, Complete works of Edgar Allan Poe (1 volume), Lord of the Rings (1 volume), and The Silmarilion.
