Was in Paris on vacation years ago. Overpacked my amount of cosmetics. (I am a retired makeup artist) The airline lost my luggage, I figured no problem I'll go to a French pharmacy to replenish. Wow. I actually did that this year. We had to evacuate from Hurricane Ida. We thought we'd be gone for 3 days turned into 3 weeks....just couldn't do that natural beauty thing that long! Went to Dollar General and picked up all BELIEVE beauty...not a bad product - helped me survive! LOL

I moved from NJ to Maine several years ago with my two youngest, and we go back often to visit as we have many friends and family there. I have a travel makeup bag that I take on every single trip with me that holds everything I need with the exception of my eyeshadow palettes. One visit I forgot it on my kitchen table as I was packing the kids and the car up and I didn't realize it until we were in Jersey. I actually was in this hypothetical situation, but for real. 😂 This happened a few years ago so I can't remember everything I bought, but I can guarantee almost all of it was elf, Milani, and Loreal.

I've had to do this and now I haul my makeup in a carryon. I don't minimize either as I'm usually attending some sort of event so it gets pretty heavy sometimes. But the truth is it costs a lot to replace a lot of products so I consider my makeup extremely valuable and worth the pain of hauling it. I can make do with some suave for my hair but my face needs the works!

I also always pack my makeup in my carry on. I’m not risking it getting lost, or handled too rough. The last time I checked a bag with makeup in it, I had an eyeshadow palette break. I also try to pack anything valuable in my carry on, because I’ve heard too many horror stories of stuff getting stolen out of checked luggage (even luggage checked last minute at the gate). So my jewelry, nice sunglasses, electronics, etc. stay with me at all times.

Twelve years ago we had a business trip to Southern California and the airline lost our luggage. We were staying near a mall that had Nordstrom and Sephora and I didn’t know where there might be a Target or Walmart. So this actually happened to me in college back in 2005. I lost my entire makeup bag (filled with many high end makeup samples from my mom). I had been storing my makeup bag on an organizer shelf above the toilet. It fell into the toilet and everything was lost. I had to completely start over and in my small college town the only place I could go was a Walmart. We didn't even have a drugstore in town. It was all I could afford. Funny enough of your choices I had that exact Rimmel bronzer in my bag. Back then the makeup focus was different (no brows, highlighter etc) and I remember realizing how expensive my entire bag was worth when I had to start from scratch.

Oh Emily! You're so modest: I'd buy a Needs Palette at Target (if this was Drugstore and not Walmart specific) and be all set for everything except foundation, concealer, mascara and lips! Although...I did recently pack all my makeup but forgot all my brushes (at least I packed a sponge for foundation). So glad I grew up with a grandmother who used to "rouge" her cheeks with whatever lipstick she was wearing. So the only real sacrifice was eyeshadow.

I've never had a bag lost because i refuse to check anything when travelling; i have never ever checked a bag. Mostly because i just am really uncomfortable with having my stuff out of my sight. So...several years ago, i went to Poland for 10 days for a family wedding, and somehow i forgot my makeup bag. I didn't realize it until i got to Poland. In the Profusion Mattes palette, the shade "Devious" in the upper right corner is a perfect bronzer for me. I tried it based on another video where you said something about trying things for different purposes than they are marketed for. The rest of that palette would serve for all my other eye needs too. I have not seen Profusion brushes anywhere except maybe the WalMart in Nebraska or Kansas (not sure where I was as I drove from Denver to Dayton (OH), listening to your videos and stopping at WalMarts and Ultas on the way. That was the first time I found Profusion, and I was so excited about the plethora of palettes, I ignored the brushes. I have so many, I don't really need any). These days I would HAVE to also buy a magnifying mirror unless the hotel had one! I have been in that situation twice, actually. We travelled to TN from OH to visit in-laws, and I forgot my make-up bag. The second time I was at work I think, and something came up for the evening, and I had no make-up on or with me. I probably spent more time wandering thru the make-up aisles at WalMart than it would've taken me to drive home, put my face on, and go back! It was when e.l.f. was really expanding and there was so much to see!

I've had my luggage lost by the airlines and they delivered it to the house I was staying at within 24 hrs. I didn't have to have makeup for anything, but I didn't even have something to sleep in. Since then I have learned to bring at least a change of clothes in a carry on or purse on the plane so that you have some basics if the luggage is lost.

I love this concept! My luggage was lost once, for 3 days. I bought L'Oreal true match powder, which I used for all coverage. And I forget the specifics, but I think I bought a brow pencil, a mascara and a glowy blush. I had lip balm, which was enough. And it worked perfectly fine for 3 days. I just used the brush/applicator that came with the blush and powder, and it was fine.

It wasn't nearly as drastic as some of the stories here, but I did once have a "Need To Get Pretty Right Now" emergency several years ago, when I was about two hours from home and all I had was a hair brush (long story). So I hit up a Walgreens, and did a rush makeup job in the parking lot with the rearview mirror and sunlight. I don't recall all the specifics, but the standouts that became go-to products were a Walking on Eggshells color icon trio from W&W, a Cheekers blush, a brown liner pencil from Jordana (I'm going to miss that brand!), and one of the color balm-type lip crayons from either Neutrogena or Almay (don't remember which). I also grabbed a pressed powder and a mascara, and a couple of cheap travel-sized brushes... hit the wall of travel items for wet wipes, tissues, eye drops, a mini dry shampoo, and Colgate waterless teeth-cleaning thingies, and I think that was it. It was far from ideal, but I did feel much prettier and more like myself when I was done. And that fast, cheap, Walgreens mini-haul ended up being the contents of the beauty pouch that never left my purse after that.

I have seen them in clearance bins at some stores. I can still find them on Walmart’s website and Meijer’s website, but that’s it. So I wonder if Covergirl has some sort of deal, where they are only making them exclusively for those two stores, or if those stores just had more stock left than others, and haven’t sold out of it yet. I’m really hoping they will remain available for purchase at those stores forever, cause they are such a great product!! 🤞🏻

This happened to me on a trip to France - my luggage with all my cosmetics and toiletries was lost for the entire 12 days (got it back the night before we flew home). I wish there had been a Walmart because we were traveling around the quiet towns that really didn’t have much of anything for stores especially for makeup and of course a lot of it was totally new to me or was so expensive (and as someone with super sensitive skin that was really challenging). I did find a little makeup shop in Rouen that had a bunch of necessities and that is what got me through the trip! Lesson learned that now I always have all my makeup in my carry on bag - clothes I can live without /buy new but being w/o my makeup and skin care products was torture! 😆

Great video. Lots of useful info. And yes, on one trip my husband left my makeup kit on the luggage carousel at the airport. After a 2-hr drive, we reached our destination and realized the oversight. We ran to a Walmart and I loaded up on essentials (and my husband on his shaving kit). Yes! Love this! We were coming back from overseas and lost our luggage, but had an event to be at the next day. I went to Walmart and picked up enough makeup to fill a small makeup bag and do my basic look. I ended up keeping that makeup and just tossing the other when it showed up. It was all old and needed replacing anyway. 😀

My mom has had to do this TWICE: once after hurricane Katrina (she forgot her makeup bag in the shuffle to evacuate, and a super sweet lady handed my mom a card with $100 inside and told her to go spend a little money on herself), and once on a weekend school function with me (we’re not the same shade so she couldn’t use mine, so she went to a tiny grocery store to get some makeup fast - one of the ones with one aisle of makeup and hair stuff)

Don't forget you can use eyeshadow for face steps. I have realized (and even mentioned) most eye palettes have a shade that works for blush. Depending on whether you like warm or cool colors you inherently get a blush shade that follows that color scheme. I have been scouring warm eye palettes to find ones that have shades that could work as a bronzer shade for me and haven't had much luck, if anything most palettes seem to have dark contour shades. The Juvias Place warrior palette has a shade that would work as a bronzer on me. As Emily mentioned that one profusion palette( I think she said bare? Basically its the warm neutral one with a black shade in it) it has a color that would work well as a bronzer for light skin and it has a terracotta type shade that works as blush, the black shade can be eyeliner! Also many palettes have these super light bone colors which you might use as a face powder idk how well it would work.
