As we grow in our faith and understanding of Truth and Eternity in light of God's revealed Grace, we will likely outgrow the (most common/probable) initial reasons we first wanted to follow Jesus. It's not that Truth changes, but our grasp of it becomes deeper, in the very person of Jesus. C. S. Lewis used a phrase in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," when Aslan speaks to one of the children about "a deeper magic" that the adversarial witch did not understand. It is a greater grace that evil, in essence, cannot comprehend. It is like that in real life when we seek godliness not for power or personal gain or esteem . . . but in pursuit of the goodness of the very Person of Jesus. If we follow a mentors, we may seek to surpass them . . . but the sheep that has become wise, never leaves, never strays, never surpasses the Good Shepherd. It is enough . . . more than enough . . . to simply stay close, satisfied and content in every way.
