Big thank you. Not necessary. I got the your schematic from a laptop. Doesn't really solve my problem. I'm combining Seymour Duncan's diagram and Fishman's. The Fishman requires a spst on/off/on switch. The switch is confusing me. I bought a Les Paul husk, already drilled for the Fishman, and 3 volumes, 3 tones, plus 3 mini switch holes. One for spdt I already mentioned. I have 2 dpdt for coil splits, and phase switch. Hoping someone with more knowledge could look over. Your diagram makes sense. But I can use. Truly appreciate all your help.

Do you need a stereo guitar cable ?
@canonfather
@canonfather 7 ай бұрын
If you want stereo output or a separate channel for the Fishman, then you would need a second signal out - for which a stereo cable would work. But I didn't go that route. I wired the + out from the Fishman to the + of the guitar's existing jack (tip) and the - wire to the - of the jack (sleeve). (After running the + signal through the small volume pot with switch to switch it in and out.) The nice thing about doing this is that you can try it out at the simplest level to see how you like it - for example, with no switch or volume pot at all, just a straight add-on signal to the jack. If you're satisfied with that, then you don't need to bother with extra holes and wiring for the volume pot/switch. Depending on how your coil pickups are wired, if you're not happy at first (or if you're just curious) you can try reversing the polarity of the Fishman wire leads and see if that helps with the sound. Probably before you reinstall the backing plate, to make it easier.

@@canonfather thank you very much, I truly appreciate your help. I'm happy if I can wire with existing pickups, and use a toggle switch that'll allow only stock pickups, or only Fishman, or both. Fishman didn't answer me about needing a stereo cable. Have a great day

I hate to keep bothering you. Fishman keep sending different wiring diagrams. I'm not an electrician but I can follow a picture. I'm having difficulty seeing what you've done. I drew a diagram out. Seymour Duncan said it would work but they didn't know about the powerbridge. When I added the Fishman diagram, Fishman did wouldn't work. Fishman sent me new diagram without dpdt on/off/on. Do you have a diagram you can share please ? Or check mine ? Any help would be a huge help. Big thanx regardless. Happy New Year

Absolutely useless video ! Nothing about installation until the last few seconds of video, then it’s rushed, and cannot be read. Stop, or pause video to read it, and the KZbin player controls cover the center of screen. Is this your first video ?

@canonfather As i can see the picture, you soldered the piezo bridge signal, to the switch. Then the ground wire goes to the selector's ground, and that's it, there are no wires from the piezo, soldered directly or going to the jack. But i just dont know, if its on your possibilities, send me a wiring diagram to my email. Please
@canonfather
@canonfather 3 жыл бұрын
You are right. The piezo is wired in parallel - so I only needed to take the plus wire from the piezo and send it to the signal wire from the other pickups that go to the guitar jack tip connection. The potentiometer/switch interrupts that signal from the piezo to the common signal wire - but as I mentioned earlier, it is not necessary, and the only thing I did with it in the video was for on-off to show the difference with-without the piezo signal added to the output signal from the other pickups.

@canonfather Oh im very very happy that you answer me, thanks a lot. I've been searching on Google that onoff switch, but i have a doubt. It's a potenciometer too? because on your photo, i can see it says B500K, so if its a switch OnOff, i guess its a push pull switch but i can't find the same switch that you bought. By the way, i would be very grateful if you could draw a wiring diagram to make this possible, you know. Piezo bridge to that switch, then to the selector? i dont know and the mono jack. I would really appreciate that, i sincerely analyzed that photo in the last seconds of the video, but i just didn't get it. If you decide to draw that wiring diagram, please send it to my email [email protected]

Yes, it has a potentiometer, but I don't use it - it turned out to be unnecessary, and the only reason I even use the on-off switch is to demonstrate the piezo signal. Otherwise, that switch is not needed at all. I can tell you that the wires from the piezo are connected in parallel to to the original existing jack. That is, the plus wire from the piezo is soldered to the tip connector on the jack, and the ground wire from the piezo is soldered to the sleeve/ground of the jack. All other adjustments to sound I make using the original controls, which I did not alter in any way - all the original wiring was left in place. If for some reason you still want a potentiometer/volume control for the piezo after you have tried it without one, you can add one later by soldering the plus wire from the piezo to the potentiometer, and then a jumper wire from the potentiometer to the tip/plus connector on the guitar's original mono jack. At least, that's what I did.

Hi! sorry for comment here but i really need your help. On your video about the piezo bridge on that washburn, whats the name of that switch to turn on the piezo? and where i can find it? the one who's beside the toggle switch. And last question, the guitar uses a mono jack?
@canonfather
@canonfather 3 жыл бұрын
That is a simple push-button on-off switch. Push on, push off. I inserted it in the wiring going to the piezo pick-up. It isn't necessary for the pick-up to work, but it is nice to be able to "cut" the piezo signal when you don't want the high-end response. It doesn't have a knob on the end of it so that it fits better on the panel with the other controls.

Yes, this guitar currently is set up with a mono jack. It could be done with a stereo if that was your wish - and then the piezo signal could be handled all by itself and the on-off switch would be unnecessary.

Sorry - I don't have tabs for this. I don't read or write them for banjo. But I can tell you that the left hand only uses the index and middle fingers - fingering two strings at a time, and they start at the octave (or close to it, anyway) and move down for the verse, and back up for the chorus. (Except there are no words, so they're not really a verse and chorus, just a part A and part B.) On the way down, they finger the lowest and third lowest strings, and on the way up they finger the middle two (of the four that aren't the drone.)

Yes - I put a high-impedance pot (about 1 Meg, I think) in-line with the powerbridge lead. It also has an on-off switch built into the pot as a push-action, which you probably noticed when I did the switching a few times.

My powerbridge heads out of the guitar (Gibson RD77) via stereo (y) cable to a phantom powered direct box, then to the mixer. The sound man does the eq on the pb on its' own channel. The pb has a separate vol knob on the guitar that "scoops" a bit as it gets turned up. When I blend this with a slightly chorused clean setting from the "electric" side, the sound is simply huge...

This is what a lot of people ask - check my other answers - and the simple explanation is: The FPB has six individual piezo sensors embedded in each of the adjustable bridge pieces that each string crosses on your guitar. The output from them is merged into one single output wire, with a shielded wire for output. Piezo sensors have enough output they don't need a preamp for most guitar amps. However, it may be nice to have a volume control for that output. A passive pot will do for that.

@DamienDeskPlace 11 жыл бұрын
Hi, can you explain this, cames from fishman website "The Fishman Powerchip is recommended, but not required for all Powerbridge models." is there any chance to install FPB to my orginal gibson bridge (i've got in gold). but never mind the colour what is the difference in this fishman bridge can you explain how is it build (i mean the bridge of course)?
@canonfather
@canonfather 11 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use the FPB on your Les Paul without the wound pickups. (You could just turn their volume down to zero.) The output will be pure string vibrations from the FPB piezo pieces under each string. However, whether or not the sound you get qualifies as "acoustic" will be according to your own ear. The Les Paul top/body vibrations will never be the same as a Gibson Hummingbird. You may want to use a Boss AC-3 or other stompbox (I used a chorus in this clip) to enrich the tone.
@canonfather
@canonfather 11 жыл бұрын
If by that you're asking if you can use the Powerbridge by itself without the other pickups - the answer is yes. It works fine just by itself. However, I don't think it was designed to be used on an acoustic guitar. Although it might work okay on an archtop or jazz style with a tailpiece.

It's been so long, I don't clearly recall, but reviewing the last few seconds of the vid, I'm pretty sure they are a "coaxial" wire - the grounding wire surrounds the hot wire like a sleeve. Also, the wire coming from the bridge into the controls is round, like a coaxial wire. While that's harder to strip the wire for soldering, it reduces external noise, and makes the "hot" lead obvious. I peel off the outer insulation first, then de-strand the grounding with a needle or nail to solder it.
@atrumluminarium
@atrumluminarium 11 жыл бұрын
are the hot and ground wires of the bridge (assuming they're the same as magnetic pickups) seperate from each other or do they use a sleeve kinda thing??
@canonfather
@canonfather 11 жыл бұрын
Your first hunch is accurate - the wiring has only a mono output - and is entirely passive. I first just wired the powerbridge in parallel to the coil pickups (all mono). I later added the fader/switch for a/b comparison and control (like in the video). And, yes, it's the chorus pedal that creates a stereo chorus output - it only does choruses, but it does many of them and does them well. It's a Boss CE-20 Chorus Ensemble, no longer in production (like many good things). I got mine used.
@potaylo
@potaylo 11 жыл бұрын
Your pictures and graphics are confusing to me to look at. Have you essentually wired the 2 passive signals after the switching and pots to the tip of a mono cable? Or do you go out in stereo with 2 descreet signals? It sounds great by the way it seems the chorus pedal adds a lot.
@canonfather
@canonfather 2 жыл бұрын
The powerbridge is in parallel to the main wiring, all output to the tip of a mono cable. The chorus pedal adds a lot precisely because of the additional high frequency response of the powerbridge. With only the magnetic pickups, the sound is mostly mushy-muddy.

No hidden switches. The tail-knobs on this guitar, typical to the Washburn Idol series, are labeled "VCC." (Maybe you can see it in the video.) On other guitars they'd be tone controls with a capacitor to short-out the high frequencies. Not on a Washburn. What they do is they progressively transition between single-coil and double-coil/humbucking wiring for each stock magnetic pickup. The powerbridge has no coil - it can't be coil tapped, just faded-the wiring is shown at video end :)
@canonfather
@canonfather 12 жыл бұрын
No amp at all - the entire demo is played through a Boss CE-20 chorus ensemble using the "Rich" setting. The only changes during the demo are made on the guitar controls themselves. The guitar needed the Powerbridge for the additional high-frequency response to take full advantage of the chorus - which is probably why it sounds different/better than other Washburns you've heard.
