Awesome video. I am small KZbinr, and I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. If you are not popular, people won't care even if you have the best videos and the best content on platform. I am not beginner anymore, but I know how hard it can be (and honestly if I didn't use a lot of Fame- ster, I would have quit a long time ago. It made everything much easier for me, especially getting to 1000 subs and view hours).

First off, I think you offered quality tips here that others don't talk about. Marketing research and storytelling research are great suggestions that I don't remember hearing in other "how-to start" videos. Second, I also cringe so much at my younger self, and I like your Mom's wisdom. Usually my family members just gaslight me. Third, I recently decided to look at the oldest videos of a very successful youtuber who I admire. Her videos go back about 13 years, and when I saw how rough, shaky, grainy and raw her beginning videos were, compared to the cinematic quality of her videos now, that was the catalyst for me to feel like I can start making videos and not hold myself back anymore. So although I totally get why people put their earliest videos on private after they've improved, I'm really grateful that this person was ok with leaving it all out there. The transformation is truly incredible to see.

Great video, love all the info you provide. Starting and growing your channel is definitely the toughest part, but the thing is that you need to give viewers the content they want to see, the content they can't live without. Same like business owners give people products they need in their life. Also you have to stay hard working and consistent (and you should also use a little bit of Famester to make everything a lot easier. For me, it feels like I am in control of everything and I don't need to worry about algorithms anymore). Good luck to everyone.

So I've been off and on with uploading on youtube for the last 2 years and this year it finally hit me that if I want to have a personal brand with a strong online presence: I NEED TO POST ON KZbin. I relate heavily to the part about being comfortable with being disliked. Truth is I wasn't and even now as I type this message the thought still makes me feel a bit "eeeh" but I realise that this is a part of life, therefore, execute the task. I am using this comment to voice my thoughts here and hold myself personally accountable to begin posting and build up a serious audience - thank you for allowing me to do so. I also noticed one thing in common that all of the haters have when they posted - they all have low sub counts and clearly feel intimidated by you. As Goggins says "You'll never see a hater that's doing better than you." Here I go - scripting, filming and editing will commence as of this week.

I'd also add, from how you say "don't let people dislike you discourage you," just do it if you love doing it. I started my KZbin channel primarily to showcase not only my guitar playing skills, but to focus on songwriting. The guys I look up to are great at having ideas they have - Moductrial Maker, Tech with Tim, Bitwit... I have my own personality and yes, I can be a bit dry at times. Do what you love anyway. I also love how you go through the different "steps" on doing this video, specifically. I guess I don't understand the "market research" part is all. Maybe, I need to take a lesson on this here - I'm great at giving encouragement. The woman I'm engaged to - let's call her "Lisa," she's a content creator, but not so much on youtube. She kind of lost her way and when her and I started talking she realized, "Oh, my gosh, this guy is doing the same thing I am." The thing is she's popular in her niche, which terrifies me...LOL!. but one thing I'm learning, specifically from content creators like you, Robert Benjamin, VidIQ and others is simply - "Don't just do content you enjoy doing, make content that will resonate with viewers." It's like problem-solving for a programmer, one of those things I do when I am able to do so. It gets harder when your time is taken for a job you have to focus on as well. Add to that I have bills I have to care for, saving up to get the gear I need, etc. and on and on. I love the advice my viewers give me, but there's so much I can do only at the current time. All you can do is take a deep breath, keep going, and figure out "How can I make this slightly better?" I hope that makes sense.

4:19 - When you fade a title with a drop shadow, you need to combine the fill and shadow as a "precomp" or nested comp so that they both fade at the same time. What you have is the elements fading separately on two different layers, which causes the shadow to fight with the fill.

I'm New here and I recently within the past 6 months or so been trying to take content creating more serious. Hearing your thoughts and pointers with going through the ups and downs was really helpful to hear. I have been making content for over 4 years but within those years I was just doing it as a side hobby & with ZERO experience of social media, it's been a long road figuring out what it is I even want to do & I still find myself always reflecting trying to figure out what it is I even want to do. When you said you figure out what you have control over and what you don't have control over, why worry about something you can't change, that really hit me, there are so many factors I always end up stressing over and they are factors I don't even control. And although I have way more experience at being comfortable with myself now & having people dislike is something I've made peace with awhile ago. I still find myself hitting walls, mentally or just with creating content. But watching this gave me a little more insight, so thank you!
