Quartzite is where it’s at! I had them installed when granite and quartz were the royals but I was blown away by the patterns and colors with that gorgeous milky translucence. I had mine honed matte and the light diffusion when we have evening lights on is ❤

2 things.....1) the picture of the mustangs gave me a new appreciation of kitchen gadgets. 2) quartzite has been my number one go to for years as a developer. I have it in my own home as well..having said that there are VARYING hardness values in different "quartzite " slabs. Some are closer to marble. I do a steel edge test on slabs now a days. Regardless I am in love with their hardness and beauty. But mustangs still are no. one

I went with a superwhite quartzite in our kitchen cause of three reasons: -the visual depth of the design (quartz always looks a little flat to me) - my love of a natural stone beat over the ease of a quartz countertop - i love marble but i cook with too many ingredients that would stain/destroy it

Sounds like you made the right choice. Natural stone does have a certain "depth" that you don't get with fabricated stone.

Did our kitchen in 2007 with Quartz. Did another kitchen this year with Quartz. When you find a product that you like and is a huge investment, its hard to consider anything else.

@@MTKDofficial The first time we selected a dark surface with multiple shades of brown to gold. Matched the colors of the floor tile and stained maple cabinets. Both in the light red\orange spectrum. This second time around, we went with an all white shaker kitchen with a white countertop with swirls of grey and tan. Matches the grey\blue marble back splash and wall paint. The counter top is much bolder than most I have seen but is a good contrast to the all white cabinets. Finished with black hardware, under cabinet, toe kick, and recessed LED lighting on motion sensors and dimmers. All switches and outlets were hidden for a clean back splash. Used the EZ Level system for the base cabinets. Its an awesome product for those of us in flood areas or have really uneven floors.

Once I pick the countertop, I have to select an edge type. Will the decision making ever end? Wondering which are most cost effective, looks good in a mostly traditional home, and is most resistant to chips. Thank you for the great videos!

Great video, we are doing kitchen Reno this summer it’s going in a space with a large glassed south facing in extension so long periods of uv light, loads of sun opening straight outside, so we’re leaning towards engineered stone, maybe Dekton ? Will be white tops, Are we on right track ? Worried about it yellowing over time…

I’d be pretty confident with Dekton or a porcelain. Dekton would be UV resistant and is often used in exterior applications.

If I had my druthers Mark, yes quartzite. Luminous, glowing, gorgeous, $150+ sq ft. (At least when I was ordering our countertops.) But the quartz with the grey veins trying to look like marble… nah. You’re right. Half sheep half goat. We went with the frankly fake quartz that looks like terrazzo-ish tiny specks of taupe, beige, rust in a very light cream (cuz I know you all want every single detail-not). This definitely is endlessly fascinating though if you have a project going….

I am a fan of Porcelain slabs for sure. I have a video on it and if I were to consider a countertop I would have to seriously consider it. My only issue with porcelain would be the price point and availability in my area. Hopefully Infinity Surfaces continues to grow their market share and we see more and more large scale porcelain slabs in North American homes. Do you have porcelain?

Thanks so much! It is porous and needs to be sealed like any other natural stone. Otherwise it will definitely absorb liquids and discolour.

A few years ago whatever they are now selling as quartzite - they were marketing the exact same rock as granite. I find it odd that we have a new countertop type called quartzite and it is split off from granite. When it comes to countertop materials the term granite pretty much covers every rock but marble. So I believe quartzite is a marketing term rather than a mineralogical term. Mineralogically there is something called quartzite - and it can be sedimentary or metamorphic. But my guess is most of the time what a salesman is selling as quartzite it is neither, just like when then sell you granite. Marketing to capitalize on the popularity of quartz countertops is all it is - otherwise they would not have bothered to give it a new marketing name - quartzite.

"They" need to pivot in order to save the natural stone market. It could be a bit of a marketing ploy, and one that can get you in trouble if the salesperson sells you dolomite and not quartzite. Either way you are getting a gorgeous countertop!

I chose quartzite because I can’t stand those little specks in granite. Every piece of granite I looked at had them. I don’t really care what you call it. If I ended up with a very hard granite that doesn’t have specks in it, that’s just fine by me.

You neglected to mention the most important difference between quartz and quartzite... due to the fact that quartzite is a natural stone, it can handle intense heat. Quartzite, due to its resins, can not. If you don’t want to worry about burning your counter with a hot pan....choose quartzite!

Quartzite is a beautiful stone, but the color is all over the place the samples we have never matches the slab. Customers need to make sure they know about that. If a customer wants consistence of color get quartz.
