I wish I had your disipline - I too started in January of 2020 the first 2 years were great, but then the struggle started - I live in an area that does not have farmers markets and our grocery stores were very limited but I am back in 2025 due to our area getting a Whole Foods and a Sprouts 5 miles from my house and our grocery stores are finally stocking some foods.

I am so happy to have come across this video. It's so hard being the only one in your family and friend group. I get shamed and am the butt of many jokes. I've slipped so many times because of that and then feel horrible when I'm all by myself in the mirror. I truly NEED to be Vegan and want to as well. Your list and book is going to be a major help in my success. Thank you!

Sending you lots of positive vibes!! Social media can be such a positive help when you're feeling a bit lonely on the vegan scene. Remind yourself, you have made a fantastic choice, for you, the animals and the environment. Rise above others and their negative responses, they're trying to deflect their own shame onto you and you're better than that :))

I have your first cookbook and love it! I’m 79 and have been vegan since 2016. I’m healthier now than I was 10 years ago. You’re so right about the horrific cruelty to animals today. I grew up on a small farm in Nebraska in the 1950’s. Our own milk cow Susie, gave us beautiful milk. Our chickens were healthy. It’s not like that now.

My transition to becoming vegan/whole food journey has been helped by your insightful recipes, and I'm looking forward to your next novel, which I have pre-ordered. The nutrient-dense food items have become my love affair with healthy foods. I make your recipes (Blackeyed peas and collards) in bulk to freeze and reheat during the week or within a month as I travel full time, pulling my RV. My go-to appliances are my Insta-pot and bread machine. Eliminating completely ultraprocess food items has become an easy transition because healthy food provides a wholesome feeling for the body. Becoming a vegan or wholefood consumer in today's world is a journey, and as a 60+-year-old guy, I continue to struggle. However, since 2014, I've become 95%- 98% pure vegan.

Janet, I am someone who has had chronic issues relating to soy products as well as known inflammatory foods for the longest, although I do love the addition of them in my diet, like soy milk and products with soy isolates such as Clif bars in the past. I have a type of endometriosis condition 💔 which means my cycle process is inverted and it can be hard to manage but keeping track of lifestyle and like you said, the inside - nutrient and vitamin content (or amino acid profiles)! Helps so much!

Happy new year and happy veganuary / vegan challange / start to veganism. I started being vegan four years ago and I can confirm: The food is easy. A few new things to learn, but overall easy. What was and is the only really difficult thing is other people who aren‘t vegan. And another hint: There may be foods vegans don‘t eat, but there aren‘t vegan meals that can only be eaten by vegans.

I have only been vegan for nine years. My biggest regret is not doing it sooner. I agree with all your points. Being vegan becomes easier over time. Once you have found a handful of staple vegan meals you enjoy, it makes it easy to prepare most meals. And the variety of delicious vegan recipes on channels like yours is amazing. Too many for me to ever cook. Same for non-food items. I am surprised by how sturdy my cork based wallet and belt are. The wallet looks cool too and has been a conversation starter for me. There are vegan groups on meetup. I have been on a few that go to different vegan restaurants around my town. I would recommend developing your fasting ability so that you can go places and not worry too much if there are no vegan food options. I just do not eat until I can get home (or somewhere with vegan options). My biggest challenge is going out for meals with my wife who is not vegan. I find it really tiresome to go to places without at least vegan options on the menu. Otherwise it is exasperating to explain seemingly every time that gluten is okay but this or that animal is not.

Good to see you back! My hubby and I have been vegan/plant based since 2018 and we love it. My husband has an abiding love for Southern style cooking, so I'm looking for good recipes that have that kind of character. I would say to any new vegan to find a supportive community, and start with things you already like, either because it's naturally vegan or the animal products can be omitted or substituted.

Thank you so much for your advice going into the new year! My husband and I went vegan January of 2024 and it has definitely been challenging this past year, but also very doable in so many ways. I watched a lot of health and environmental documentaries before we switched and it just clicked for me that it was the right thing moving forward in our lives. Has definitely been challenging at family gatherings, though they have been very supportive and respectful of our change, which is a relief. However I definitely have to do extra cooking to bring vegan meals for us to eat at family gatherings and holiday events. But I'm trying to stick with it! This last holiday season was stressful for me trying to resist all of the homemade goodness that I've been used to the past 40 years of my life, but I'm committed to making this a permanent lifestyle change and hoping to see the benefits. I do have a question: I'm not necessarily seeing many physical benefits from this change, i.e. I thought I would have some weight loss, more energy, health improvements (I have high cholesterol genetically). Maybe I need to try harder in being more 80/20? I do love cooking and mostly cook homemade meals, but sometimes it's hard to resist those processed mock meats. Also, my husband is a personal trainer and feels he's not getting enough protein, which is always a struggle with people who workout lol. He is very much sticking on this diet change with me, but I'm concerned if at any point he falls off the bandwagon then I won't be able to resist either. Thanks for all your wonderful content and advice!

As a non-vegan growing up in a vegan household for almost 15 years of my life (I’m 24 now), it was always fascinating to see all the things my parents did to stay vegan and to witness their journey from being non-vegan to embracing veganism. They even explored different approaches to it-like my mom trying raw veganism for a little while. Unfortunately, my dad quit last year due to health concerns and feeling that his age no longer suited the diet, or so he says. Luckily, my mom has continued to stick with it. For so long, I thought veganism wasn’t for me, but as I’ve grown up, I’ve started to slowly incorporate more plant-based foods into my diet. Doing so has actually made me feel better health-wise. As someone who’s autistic and has sensory issues with certain foods, vegan alternatives have been a huge help. For example, cheese has always been a big challenge for me-especially melted cheese, which I find hard to deal with because of its texture. But when I tried vegan cheese as an alternative, I didn’t get that same feeling of disgust. It’s made me feel less anxious about food and eating in general, which has been such a positive change. I’m still far from perfect, and this is definitely just the beginning of my journey but slowly and surely, I’ll get there 😊

@amybethhurst Well he just kinda had been feeling low energy and that his body is not working with the diet as much as when he was younger, like it's not giving him the things that he used to get from it in the past. Soon in a couple of years he's gonna be 50. Also he kept telling me how he looked some info up and saw that some others have been going through similar things and that going back as none vegan has helped them getting back into track, so ig he just wanted to see if going back to being none vegan would help him and if he would get better and be able to do things more actively.

My biggest challenge has been having no support and typically not being considered in group gatherings so I usually don’t go or I’ll eat before if I really want to socialise, but it feels alienating. Also in my country there are very few vegan restaurants. Most of them are only open few days a week and close in the early afternoon. I work at night time. These are why sometimes I eat vegetarian food even though I’m lactose intolerant. I eat vegan like 90 something percent of the time, but I want to fully be vegan. Being vegan here is overall seen as weird, being difficult, wrong or unhealthy.

What would you suggest to get 180g of protein per day? Currently, to put it simple, I eat either some lean chicken or turkey 500g, which amounts to 80-100g of protein for 500-800 kcal. Also some beans and mushrooms to add some more protein(about 30g) and fiber. And at the end of the day I top it off to 180g by eating a protein pudding(my daily cheat thing) and some cooked turkey (which is supposed to go on bread but I eat it pure just to fill up the missing protein). Now, some things I would like to stay away from: -soy (auto immune disease, it is not good for me and causes internal infections) -fake meats (I currently already limit my processed foods to that one small protein pudding per day, I try to stay away from processed stuff) -broccoli/cauliflower family, tomatoes, potatoes, gluten, bell peppers, onions, nuts (internal infections, as the first item) I was reading and saw lentils should be high in protein. Almost 20g for 200g of lentils, for 230 calories kcal. But 130g of protein by replacing poultry with lentils would mean about 1200grams of lentils per day. That seems like a lot to eat, considering it's so rich in fiber. How do you spread it out? Or do you suggest force feeding until the stomach eventually expands? And how is the absorption rate of plant protein vs animal protein?
