Often times we may receive advice from successful people saying that we should not grind so hard and worry so much about the future. Here’s my honest take on why this may be biased, the pros and cons about working hard very early in life, and why being an entrepreneur may not be for everyone.
As always, big thanks to @lexus @LexusUSA team for offering the keys to this TX.

Talking about entrepreneurship, I like the idea of being FULLY invested in your job and having something to be passionate about, but the part that scares me away is having no idea where to start. There is so much bad advice in the "hustle/grind" culture that its hard to find people who have genuine advice, and those who are just selling some "get rich quick" course or MLM nonsense

There's no perfect place to start. I have seen a lot of people who get stuck in the analysis phase, building business plans and trying to achieve that success even before starting the business. That's like imagining a girl going to sleep with you through a fantasy that you built in your mind, even though you haven't even approached her. Entrepreneurship is a trial-and-error job. Whatever you think is the perfect place to start right now is a mistake, and you won't know that its a mistake until you do it. But the good part is that you will learn that its a mistake and then you are better than the 99% who just have the idea right now. Then rinse and repeat. This is why this path is full of pain: it makes you feel stupid and defeated numerous times before you actually hit that pot of gold. My 2 cents, bottom line: just start.

I work in radiation oncology/therapy where the idea of trade-offs is fundamental... blast the tumor, though inevitably irradiate nearby organs. This is significantly higher radiation dose than what a CT scan delivers, but the concern at this point isn't really increased lifetime risk of a second cancer ..

RE: Entrepreneurship Thanks for bringing that up. I hate hearing the washed-up cliched advice that I have to start my own business to become successful, like first of all I don’t have the privilege that you have when it comes to taking risks. Secondly, it’s not the only path to success. Lastly, what the hell is your definition of success? I’m really sick of being lectured by sanctimonious guys.

One thing I'll push back on is that you can minimize downside risk and position yourself for options even without the privilege. But agreed, entrepreneurship not for everyone for a multitude of reasons

Dang! If I knew you were in Mira Mesa (my town), I have an ND2 lightly modified (springs, shocks, 340tw tires) you can give a spin. There's a popular twisty route (about a 20 mile stretch) in Escondido.

Hey Kevin :), I mostly agree with this video, but I generally don't love the sentiment at 5:51 of "...but I don't regret that, I don't think I should have done things differently." Maybe I'm a little bit negatively biased against this already, since I'm not a fan of statements like "Everything I've done made me who I am today; I wouldn't change a thing." I think it's definitely possible to make a more balanced statement, combining both 1) I don't regret the path that I took, as it led me to the success I'm seeing today and 2) the path that I took was optimal in ABC ways - you can emulate these, it was suboptimal in DEF ways - here's how to improve these, and it was disastrous in XYZ ways - avoid these. I'd imagine you already agree with this, given your advice videos on MSI, etc. aren't just a carbon-copy of your med-school experience; rather they're an amalgamation of what you've learned during the experience, as well as further introspections, improvements, optimizations, and learnings from others that you've continued to make afterwards. For a more direct analogy, regarding the complaint of successful people recommending taking a more balanced approach than they took: Imagine 2 twins (all things equal) who both ranked #1 in their respective class: Twin A gave a consistent 85% effort, while perfectly optimizing study techniques, health, well-being, etc. Twin B gave a consistent 150% effort, while using sub-optimal study techniques, smoking meth, never exercising, sleeping 4h /night, teetering on mental collapse, etc. Sure, twin B can of course come out of it saying "well, I finished 1st in my class, everything I did lead me to this result, I don't regret anything", but, as evidenced by twin A, there was a far more safe, efficient, effective, optimal, etc. path that could have been taken. Now, let's say one day twin B becomes an influencer/mentor/advisor, etc., he could tell the story of "here's how you too can achieve rank #1, not by taking this insane path I took, but by taking this far improved path I learned from twin A." I doubt this is anything revolutionary to you, but hopefully it illustrates a way in which someone might be able to recommend a more balanced approach to success, even though they themselves didn't take that path.

Excellent thoughtful response and in agreement. There’s a middle ground. I think many successful people overemphasize “I didn’t have to do X Y Z and make my life so hard”. I perhaps am too far on the other side. Middle ground likely the truth. You’re right even in my first ever MSI video I point out the study strategies I wish I started using in college - would have made life easier.

My first job: my boss hated me because his wife used to fancy me - I always kept my nose down and never even spoke to her. Second job: boss sold the business after I built it (boss was my father). Third job: my boss' gf used to fancy me and he hated me even more because I got more of the limelight than him, and I had no respect for him because he was a moron. Fourth job: f*ck working for someone else!
