I'll always be a fan of covers, not the "true-to-original covers"... the types that bands do when they put their own style on the song. It's the reason I gravitated to ska back in the day, I loved all the covers and respect the younger generation of "band kids" were showing for legends in their own way. Busters (out of Germany) doing "Wish You Were Here" is my absolute favorite cover song of all time. I think songs that many artists do actually get more attention to writing these days, since so many people are learning who actually wrote a lot of the songs people have loved over the years. Personally, I had no idea that Dolly Pardon was such a prolific songwriter, or Carole King for that matter, and it blew my mind in my later years how much talent so many of these songwriters had.
@JustJessee2 ай бұрын
"true-to-original covers" are just professional Karaoke. A cover song should be about infusing yourself into the original, making it something different. Karaoke is just singing along to another person's art. Imo. When I was very young I'd listen to golden oldies/50s rock with my dad. When I was in 10th grade a friend introduced me to MxPx's cover of Blue Moon and my brain exploded. I never knew pop/punk covers existed and I tell you what...Covers are my favorite genre of music. It takes a lot of effort to get the vibe or spirit from a song and transpose it into another voice. This era of "in the style of" music is like heaven for me.
