Grant, this book was introduced to me by you! So, thank you! your excellent review made me rush out to find it 😁 and I just finished it! wow, interesting and unexpected at least! the pieces, for me, only start to come together somewhere in the middle, of this book dedicated to books, writers and readers, who are addressed by "you", as you said, and introduced as characters in the story as well, and it ends with another little surprise, that makes us do an "ahhh!"😁. I Like it, for the difference and for being an ode to the lovers of books and their universe. Thanks!

Hello CristinaInWonderland, thanks for the wonderful comment! Wow! That was one my my early videos from way back when. I am so happy that it encouraged you to find the book and give it a try! That was my entire mission when I started this channel, to try to encourage people to be a little more daring and broad-minded in their literature choices. Your comment has honestly put a big smile on my face. It is a challenging book, and something that is not for everyone, but I feel that if you stick with it, there is that moment at the end, like the puzzle pieces are putting themselves into place for you. Have you read 'Invisible Cities' also by Calvino? It is absolutely magical. Thanks again for the fantastic feedback!

@@grantlovesbooks Ah! I'm glad the comment made you smile🙂thank you for the kind reply. And there is no doubt that your mission here is working! It wasn't just this book that i started to read or that i put on the list to read, or even led me to discover others by the same author, due to your reviews, and by chance, "Invisible Cities" is one of them, it's on the list!!! At the moment I'm reading two (to satisfy different "appetites") one by an author who i already read before, Milan Kundera, but still hadn't picked up the well-known "The Unbearable Lightness of beeing", which your, once again, excellent review reminded me that I hadn't read it yet (and compared to this one from Calvino, much easier to read, it flows naturally!) the other is by a Russian author, Mikhail Bulgákov "The Master and Margarita", still in the first pages but it already caught me, and from what I've read so far, it's worth it, the only difficulty at the beginning is the Russian names, of course!

@@CristinaInNeverland Hello again! Good luck with your very ambitious reading list. Even though some books may be daunting, (those Russian names never seem to get easier for me, currently I am reading 'Oblomov'), it is really a wonderful thing to read a broad cross-section of literature. In recent years I've been reading a lot of Japanese and French literature. My Japanese pronunciation is good, which helps a lot with the names. I'm really quite happy I've been able to encourage you to read 'The Unbearable...' It is absolutely incredible. I think I could re-read that book again and again. Please keep me informed on how your are making out with your list. I've happy to hear from you!

@@CristinaInNeverland I was an ESL teacher for many years in Budapest. I got used to many different kinds of mistakes with English grammar. So much that I used to make them myself.

Thanks for this. I wound up setting the book down when I met the girl in the bookstore, but now I want to know what happens.

Quite a lot happens for such a short book. I hate to give away any spoilers, but this novel is full of unexpected twists and turns.

@@cornishgamehen9373 Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. It's pretty slow at the beginning and I feel a little desperate for results and feedback, so it is really kind of you to write that! I hope they'll get better with practice and some technical skill.

@@grantlovesbooks I was impressed having seen how young the channel is. I was taken by the candid analysis, and thought the delivery was quite good, and should only improve as you progress. I’ll be tuning in for future uploads. Good luck with growing your channel!

@@cornishgamehen9373 Thanks! The channel is young but the talking head is not. I'll never forget the pleasure of discovering an 'unknown novel.' That's what I hope I can share with people. And thanks for writing, it reminds me what my aim is when making videos, I really appreciate it!
