For this group, since they don't know. Items will not despawn from a chunk that is not loaded. MEANING, if you are not close to where you died, those items will remain, INDEFINATLY, until someoned goes to the chunk and picks them up, or has the chunk loaded long enough for them to de-spawn natrually.
