VTubing really started taking off in 2020. Covid indirectly resulted in the great VTuber boom. Hololive was already well known in Japan prior to that, they were doing quite well in 2019, but 2020 was the big year when VTubing became a mainstream thing. Still a while to go before it is a decade.
