Add battery (source of your movement) and converter in 1 place and you receive bigger space than 1976 old V6 engine. For some reason people only admits electric motor, but not transmition, battery or converter, wiring and rest of important parts, but like to bash ICE on daily basis for having "100500" parts, which is false. never overestimate EV or underestimate ICE. want to have both
@MiGujack32 жыл бұрын
@@razzor4708 Also weight, EV's can be extremely heavy, especially in ICE platforms. You can make them lighter but you start losing a lot of range. @@dontrustwhiteyevery1 That and fire suppression/safety in the event of a crash. As it stands where the battery is situated, it's more likely to shear off the bed or stay in place but give enough space to anyone in the cab to hopefully get out in a roll over crash with the cage they have welded in. Of what I see in most cars, they spread the battery pack along the wheel wells or shove it under/behind the seats. The high mileage cars aside from having a high density battery cells keep the batteries stacked along the bottom of the car with multiple layers of fire retardant insulation etc. I don't doubt that fire departments have started some suppression training measures for EV fires but it is pretty much a new game so far as fire fighting goes because we just don't have enough accidents to study for the best ways to power down/put out a battery fire yet. For reference on average there have been approximately 213,000 car fires per year. If anything, it actually means safety systems are under utilized in ICE cars AND EV's and as of yet there is no ready accessible way other than fire retardant or extinguishers to prevent/manage them.

I remember just 5 years ago trying to look into these heavier EV conversions and would rarely ever see stuff like this. It would always be the smaller compact (and rarely even anything cool like a 70’s Honda) cars that I’d see get converted. Even though I’m trying to be less car-reliant, I love seeing this become more and more of an option, especially for out-of-town trips or even rural areas where public transport besides maybe Amtrak can be genuinely hard to accomplish, even with the best planning/funding/whatever.
@Skylancer7272 жыл бұрын
To be fair, one of your main reasons to try a conversion is your old motor was starting to fail. So a lot of early EV conversions where crappy old cars.
@keybyss982 жыл бұрын
@@Skylancer727 True, though it’s not like bigger cars/trucks don’t have that issue. It would usually be something small that’d get the treatment. Something like an 80’s Lincoln Town Car or a 50’s Caddy were just unicorns in regards to EV conversions. One of the few guides out there at the time even specifically said to use a car that was: - Manual - Less than 2,000 lbs. - Wasn’t totally new (usually pre-2000’s). Basically, it had to be a Beetle or an 80’s Civic for optimal effect. It’s also ignoring the annoying big-batteries-in-the-trunk method a lot of conversions used, and well before proper kits like this were being sold. That’s why the one EV Accord from a few years ago was so fascinating to me: Not only was it impressive, but it used a *bigger* and more common-ish car that was unlike most EV conversions beforehand. It’s becoming less and less needed to shell out a bunch of money (and miles) to get the one cool project car that’s both good for conversions and unique/old enough to have. Stuff like my high school dream EV conversion (an 80’s town car, which are quite common in my region, converted to EV) is now becoming more and more possible!
@Skylancer7272 жыл бұрын
@@keybyss98 honestly, I think the trunk battery is a decent enough solution. It's basically the cheap option requiring way less over working and you also don't need it water proofed. Most cars have open bottoms and rather poor sealed fronts so the batteries need weather proofing. So I think it is a solution, just not a quality one.

Toyo and Honda are starting to add silly tailfins on the corners to look different...but then everyone else will too. A wind tunnel and South Korean body shop produce the same styles. That's why gearheads are now on trucks. Cars are all the same. Trucks still had some variety in 2019...but when they stared advertising their fancy tailgates as their only distinctive feature...I knew trucks were headed for the washing machine vanilla factory too. Eventually the F150, Ranger, Maverick, Tacoma, GMC, Dodge, Rivian will all look alike with EV drives or GasElectric. The F150-Rivian box. Cyber Truck will be a yuppie hipster status wierdmobile for office drones and weekend cruisers like the SSR was. Vehicles are just becoming appliances. Once you aren't allowed to actually drive them, they will just be rented....because they have become inefficient mass transit.

Hey Rich ....how about a website index at the end of the video or at the top of your reply section comments... I want all the suppliers and all the products mentioned on your videos in the beginning so that we can get the proper websites.... I've tried this revolt several times and I've gotten all kinds of crazy stuff and none of it's what I want so the actual websites would benefit both the people that are doing this work and the ability for us to get in touch with them when we have a extra interest or need pricing for ordering.. .thanks for all the great content...keep up the best vids on the tube!

Forget the Caddy, I'm digging the rat rod truck. It would make a heck of an EV ute.
