This one is not strictly ASMR but since it's based on comments I get here all the time, I simply have to post it 😂
So what IS vintage? It's okay to ask that! Put simply there are "rules", but it depends on the type of item, and depends on who you're talking to. What age a video game would be considered vintage is going to be different than say, books. Because video games have been around for a far shorter amount of time. For a car to be considered "vintage" it may be a different time range than clothing.
Loosely from my many years of collecting/shopping/selling, what I go by is this:
Vintage is 20 + years old
Antique is 100 + years old
Retro is a looser term. Can mean modern items that are replicas of older things or new things made to mimic older styles, can also be applied to things that technically fit into the vintage category.
I cannot stress enough that the use of these terms highly depends on the context, AKA what type of item we're discussing. But at the end of the day.... it's not that serious. Especially when we're all just here to appreciate cool older things! My goal is to celebrate interesting items and give them a second life, and share my love of cool designs and styles 🤗

Wrong. These terms are not fixed, they are relative. Vintage clothing is anything older than 20 years, cars are legally considered vintage after 25, furniture at 40 and video games after only 10 years. Secondly, retro is a useless label if you’re buying vintage. It can refer to things of age, but it can also be defined as a style imitating a thing of age. The issue then is that you can be buying a reproduction assuming its vintage. Its not a usefull term for this reason.

I learned in vocational school that furniture and other things that are 30+ old are vintage and 50+ old things are antiques. This "guideline" defined what we could do to furniture that came in for us to work on. Vintage things we could do more to (like change the color or paint pictures on it), but antiques were supposed to be kept the same as much as possible.

@@Mldy96 I'm 26 and started developing wrinkles years ago, and while I am only now able to start looking into proper UV protection for regular use, I have also been through intense amounts of stress and trauma throughout my life and am chronically ill. I've always taken great pains to care for my skin, and have never not moisturised it after washing twice a day, as well as being very careful about what products I use within my (until now, extremely limited) budget. Your comment makes me feel like a failure despite all of this. There are so many different factors at play when it comes to development of wrinkles, and often being able to "keep them at bay" is something that is inaccessible or unaffordable for people (including myself; I have fibromyalgia and often cannot sleep in a position that would be deemed "acceptable" to those out there who make obsessive "content" about never ever getting any wrinkles whatsoever without extreme pain and insomnia). The ability to do so is a privilege to large degree, and it's really unfair to say people are "ruining their skin", especially in such a condescending/superior tone. (Not to mention that this standard is in itself a very sexist and often ableist standard we are subjected to anyway.) Suitable SPF is f*cking expensive especially if you have acne-prone skin like mine (I also have PCOS). I understand you likely didn't mean offense but honestly it's just really hurtful to see people boasting about how they remain so "flawless" and how people like me are "ruining our skin" when we already are made to feel like such failures in society's eyes just by who we are. I'm trying so hard to recover and nurse my body to better health and this just hurt so much to read. Like I'll never be able to "undo" these "slip-ups" I made when I was just doing my best to get through my illnesses, that time is lost now, and it's made worse by nasty attitudes to visual reminders of age. Please be less inconsiderate in future. Ty.

I was 22 when I heard a song from my sophomore year of high school played on the oldies station. It's only been downhill since then.

As a kid of the 80's it makes my mind melt to think that the 'old' 60's was 2 decades before my childhoold. Yet my childhood was almost 40 years ago now.

Don’t worry. I’m 20 and had a gameboy growing up too. I had VHS cassettes and a walkman for cassettes aswell. Some things just stick around for a while

I loved shopping the vintage clothing stores in the 80s..they still had actual vintage/antique.. My black lace gloves were from the 40s. and yeah, I promptly cut off the fingers🫣

I wrote a twitter writing prompt on this. There was a bobos cordial concentrate bottle in a little country museum. To be fair it was getting hard to find when i was still in single digits. But it was with hand mixers and butter pats. I was just stunned the rest of that visit.

When I was in high school, I bought a truck. It wasn't new, it was a common brick-nosed Ford. I had it for about 14 years, and when the buyer (high school aged) came to pick it up from me about a year ago, they called it a "classic". Made me feel old. I miss that truck now, but it was time to let it go.

I remember seeing a Swan Lake Barbie doll being resold as "vintage" I also saw "The Matrix" being described as a classic at some point too. I guess it's official that I'm old?

Yup. Dad and I went to a "mom and pop/attic" museum and found things on display "from the old days" - which we had in our house. And this story comes to you from 198x. :)

It ain’t bad until you start seeing stuff you had as a kid on display in museums. A few years back, the Smithsonian had some kind of electronics exhibit which included the iPod nano, which I had and used religiously until I was about 13. More recently, a museum I went to in England had a Nintendo DS in their electronics exhibit. 😳 Dude, I ain’t even 30! Why are all these museums trying to make me feel ancient?! 😂

I just brought over some 70's-90's silks scarves from my childhood home and showed them to my boyfriend. He was like "It is so weird they are considered vintage" Yep...I guess we are becoming vintage ourselves 😂

The fun thing is I grew up with toys that were my moms and her parents toys I did get modern toys growing up but the older ones were always more fun. (We sadly lost them while moving) but I loved those vintage toys

Miss, I work in a video game shop, one that caters to old stuff but we occasionally get new stuff in. I had a stack of teenagers come in after school and asked for something retro. I showed them our sega, and they clarified - PS3 or Xbox 360. I told them that that came out when _I_ was a kid and then I googled the date they came out. I grayed five hairs that day. I feel your pain.

Okay unrelated side note but she has like, perfect hands. They’re so delicate and dainty which I envy, because I have really bad eczema covering my hands which cause them to always be red, coarse, and covered in cuts.
