Useful hints: -make use of unique perks (blue) like hacking with Livewire to get money quickly early on - squad stash is for ammo and is shared by all squad members - you can right click weapons and ammo to modify and pass - there are two different 7.62 calibres: NATO (Western guns) and WP (Warsaw Pact, Eastern guns)
@nhirach Жыл бұрын
Squad supplies is used for reload, u dont have to give ammo individually. Also should turn on the option to see covers all the time in the menu. And explore everything, you left like 2k worth of loot in the first map. Happy that you finally decided to play this gem :)
@omnisemantic1 Жыл бұрын
And some tips based on the last few minutes: You can right-click weapons and items in the inventory and select the unload/reload/mod/etc. options from the pop-up menu. All ammo can stay in the squad inventory, you only need to move it to character inventory, if you want to split the ammo pile. WP means Warsaw Pact (as in the former east of the Iron Curtain alliance) and it's a different bullet type (7.62x39) as opposed to the NATO standard (7.62x51). WP is usually used for assault rifles like the AK47, while the NATO 7.62 is usually for carbines or machine guns. Finally, are you kidding? Of course you should be making a series of this! JA is just as classic of a series as X-Com ever was. If you have any love for the genre you need to try your hand at this!
@JinghisKhan Жыл бұрын
WP 7.62 can also refer to the 7.62x54R cartridge which is the long round used in PKM machine guns and such.

Id love to see more! Been waiting for this vid :) - Right click in inv for reload, modding or combining items. - Every map has a stash, things go there automatically from corpses or boxes you looted. Access via right bottom corner on world map. - Hunker down that saves AP, it saves what you got left up until 5AP(?). Great to use. Works with "hidden". - Right click on maps to enter them even if there is no engagement. - Melee stealth is done by marking a mob and walk up to them. Mark by clicking them and choose where to attack then walk there. - Stealthing in front of an enemy is the same as stealthing behind the enemy - Mercs lvl stats depending on what they do. Running a lot in combat gives them agility etc. - switching from prone to full standing is 2AP and the same for opposite. 1 per stance. - body armor lowers the enemies dmg taken by a lot. - You saw the enemy outlines at start because you have a merc with an ability "proccing" in scouted areas. - Some merc have special perks for doing mech, trap, hack-things etc. In your case Livewire and Barry. Use them for that. Other than that it doesnt matter who you do what with. When looting scrap and herbs etc. - EDIT: Also, good to know that some "Operations" you will find later, like training Militia, has a cost that is draw when you select your Mercs for it. Not when its started. So if any operation shows a cost itll be drawn when selecting mercs even if you dont end up starting it. At least it was like that for a while. Selecting mercs just to check how much time itll take ended up charging the cost regardless. There is a lot more but nothing really scary or complicated. Just things that you might find out or that we here might advice you about.

Having sunk hundreds of hours into the first two Jagged Alliance games, I am quite attuned to the unique elements of this series. Even then, some of the differences between JA3 and JA2 required a mental adjustment on my part. So I am quite impressed that Odd, who does not seem familiar with the earlier games, could dive in so comfortably and employ the same tactics that a more experienced player would (e.g. moving into optimal range for a given weapon, judiciously choosing fire mode and targeted body part, paying attention to firing stance and going prone at the right moment to either increase chance to hit or reduce chance to be hit). His in-combat assessments are on point. Evidently, he prepared prior to recording.

Here's some tips: 1.Grenades need to be equipped in one of the 2 slots in order to use them (doesn't have to be the active one). they can't be used directly from the backpack. same with knives. 2. There's an option to always show the action bar and cover locations which is more convinent IMO 3. Overwatch works a bit different here. it can trigger more than once based on availiable AP. 4. When setting the OW cone, the stripped area means there's no LOS there, the clear area is where it will trigger. 5. All mercs can use any gun. there are no weapon specializations or something like that (maybe just for heavy guns) 6. Later in the game you will encounter traps. "Disarm" prompt means explosive trap, "Disable" means mechanical trap, so choose the right merc.
@hectorjunk1935 Жыл бұрын
The Range Indicator - The middle line is the ideal range for the weapon, if the crosshair is below that line, your too close, if above, too far, so the closer to the middle the better, and when thats the case a headshot is usually the best option. Ammo is taken from the squad inventory automatically, so you don't need to fill precious merc slots with ammo. Both Buns & Kalyna with suppressed/Scoped Gewerhs are great stealth snipers. Right click on the weapon to see the options including reload and modify. Also don't think too much like it's XCOM. The cover icons are just vague indicators of how much cover you get. Whats more important is to actually look at the objects in the line of sight and judge for yourself. Bullets are modelled traveling from gun to target so gaps and tree trunks all make a difference.
@crisisgear Жыл бұрын
There are no penalties for being too close mate, that line just shows the maximum optimal range and flashes the bar when it is becoming a bit of a long shot. You even get a bonus for a point blank shot. It's a common misconception as the game isn't always the best at explaining things.

Some tips: Don't forget to use run and gun (and the pistol equivalent) when moving your troops... it costs basically the same as moving, but you get to pop off some rounds at the enemy. Sure, they're not well aimed, but they often hit anyway. Also, you build mods for weapons by using parts. You get parts from scrapping weapons and armour. But try not to go overboard modding early guns, because parts are basically worth their weight in gold due to how rare they are. So stick with supressors or cheap sight mods until you start getting better weapons. (like Dragunov snipers or more advanced assault rifles). Lastly, if you happen to have a lot of ammo handy, you can use overwatch traps very effectively (especially with LMG's, but those chew through ammo like crazy). PS: let your militia forces lose from time to time... it gives you a lot of loot, because you get the loot from friendly militia forces too :) Good source of 5.56mm ammo for the Minimi machine gun, for example. PPS: Oh and like some others mentioned here... explore all the maps... even the ones with no enemies in them. Lots of loot and characters that you'll miss out on otherwise.

Well since he asked for general info/advice: Throwables (daggers, grenades, etc) can be accessed/used in combat even if they're equipped in your 'secondary' weapon slots. I.e AK in slot 1 (takes both slots) and you can still throw any knives/grenades you have in slot 2 on your equipment screen. And you can right click the weapon(s) in your inventory to access the mod menu, turn them into scrap, or manage ammo. Modification menu tells you what character (defaults to highest afaik) is responsible for doing the work. But in general when moving around with your whole squad selected. the game 'DOES NOT' default to the person with the highest skill in a task. So you migt randomly send Barry to hack a computer- or Kalyna to defuse a mine...

So a few tips based on the first minutes: If you run out of money and can't pay your merks it's game over, so you'd rather not be hovering close to $0. You want a dedicated medic. Having another person with med skills in the squad is not a waste, because it will shorten treatment time, which is important because time is money. Both your char and Buns have the learning boost perk, but these don't stack. Eventually you will have to make a second squad, so consider having her lead Team B to make use of it.

The take cover action is in general better than going prone, prone positions should only be used to set up kill zones with rifles or machine guns, or to break line of sight if you have no better options. Taking cover on the other hand vastly reduces your chances of getting hit, and the shots that DO hit regardless will usually turn into grazing hits, as the bullets have to pass through cover to strike you, this only applies if the enemy does not have a good angle on your position of course. The saved AP is an added bonus, as it essentially levels up your next turn, allowing you to set up a lethal move whilst staying relatively safe, against bullets anyways.
@ChristopherOdd Жыл бұрын
If you take cover, THEN go prone, does that essentially remove the cover?

Tips for ammo, always unload guns in characters inventories that are not being used as that's less ammo in the squad supplies. As you play try and make sure each merc is using a different caliber, so one ammo type isn't being over used (9mm is very common so that's the easiest for multiple mercs to share). Also try not to use full auto as much as possible or you will run out of ammo easily. Finally if you get certain explosives such as pipe bombs, C4 and TNT you can use wire cutters on them to salvage gun powder to craft more ammunition. Hope you keep playing :)

I didn't know about the 1 Merc you can get basically for a fixed price. Other than that I went with: Kalyna as well for Marksman (she's cheaper than buns, brings her sniper rifle right from the start and ignores armor), Barry as well (the shaped charges are extremly OP when you manage to get them into groups in the sneaking phase), Livewire because you can see enemies when you get intel on a sector. Blood as hit and run (infinite knives save a lot of ammo), also Fox as Medic and one of the russians. Also every Merc has a secondary loadout e.g. you dont put the knive into Barrys backpack but directly in loadout slot 2 (under his picture). Reason for this is: when combat starts it needs AP to equip anything from inventory, so make sure to have knives, nades and weapons equiped before. Also later choose the proper ammo type (can make a huge difference in min-max approach combining Merc skills, weapon mods and proper ammo). And you want to hack with Livewire, since she's really good at it. PS: Did you really skip Basiel on your arrival? If you did it on purpose for naration only to come back later its ok. Otherwise it might bight you hard. PPS: The game imho sometimes really explaines well on a strategic level but not so much on tactical/personal things. From my experience so far: ammo does not to be stored individualy but in the squad stash and gets reloaded from there.

Man I really like that the mercs can negotiate their prices with you. Imagine a mechanic where during a mission they ask for more pay for whatever reason; like you asking them to do something super dangerous, outside their expertise, or just because they have a specific personality trait.

This is your kind of game Odd, you just need to give it a bit more time. Once you are going to hit the mainland - you will get sunk in slowly. Also it is not very intuitive, so I have restarted it once I was almost halfway through since I was doing lots of things wrong. The humor is ridiculous for some characters, such as Fidel for example. The humour that happens out of nowhere, when there is an unexpected interaction happening between certain mercenaries. I have found myself laughing so often, because out of nowhere I am trying to do a stealth kill and there comes a comment from somone. Perhaps it is not exactly JA2, but it is not far from it and with a few fan made mods it will definitely get there. And yes, amongst all other valueable comments, try to research every nook and cranny you come across - occasionally you may be rewarded handsomely.
