Remember folks - HR works for the company. They don’t work for you. THEY ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE. They are there to protect the company. Do not be deceived into thinking you can cry on their shoulder because those folks love to gossip and nothing you say is confidential. I learned this the hard way through many jobs.

@Anticrystal882 ай бұрын
Sadly, this is true. I worked in HR for a while and took it as my responsibility to advocate for the staff. However, that is unusual. Last company I worked for, anything you told HR "in confidence" wasn't confidential at all, was gossip fodder and repeated up the chain. P.S. It's against labor law to classify somebody as a contractor just because you don't want to pay them benefits. There are clear guidelines about what makes you a contractor vs. what makes you an employee. Don't fall for that one!

@edthelazyboy2 ай бұрын
Not suprised, the training is really to cover the company's butt. If the company faces any lawsuits, they can say that they had "Harassment" or "Safety" training for their employees. I'm not surprised that the test questions can be answered with common sense. No company wants any employee to spend extra time restudying, instead of making more money for the company.

I turned in an employee that was scamming customers at my last job. Instead of an investigation, I sat on a video call with HR for over 3 hours - the entire time, the lady was asking me leading questions trying to implicate myself in wrongdoing so they could fire me. I was even told to shut off my phone and and recording devices before the call. I worked there for about 6 months after this, and left yesterday. HR is not there for employees. This video nails it. It was easier to try and get rid of me, than to hold the other guy accountable. So after a decade, I quit.

When someone asks you to turn off your recording devices that's mighty suspicious. A - They can't check or enforce this in any way. Therefore asking to do so is more of a scare tactic. So if they are asking they either don know/care for any laws or they preparing something much, much worse.

HR here. I clicked "Play" so fast, my finger hurts lol. Just chiming in. Honest Ads nailed this perfectly. Human Resources should be renamed to "Human Asset Management" because that is what it is. HR ensures that the company remains compliant with employee administration from a legal point of view, and is the first point of HR matters on behalf of the company. HR is paid by the company, so of course, will usually favor the company in most exchanges. Folks, if you want representation, work with a lawyer if you really need to, or even better, form a UNION! Unions fight on the employee's behalf to ensure proper bargaining and rights are being accounted for. If you can form a union, do so. The HR told her "Don't tell anyone, but don't ask less than Y (X + 20%) because nobody here at your position makes less than that, so I'll write down Y". She got the job and got that higher salary. Sure, HR is not your friend, they are your co-workers, but in a healthy companies they are there to take care of your needs as a worker so you'd be happy. Legit got sent home for reading a book 10 mins before EoD. HR called me to say I was suspended until an investigation was resolved. They fired me three business days later. The previous time I was made to sign a document saying that my production numbers were too high, even though they didn't tell you how to do it properly (if at all). HR protects the company, not you. HR IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!!😂😂😂😂 I remember that I was being flat out bullied by my boss's boss and I reported them to HR. Those bitches told me, in essence, that's how we roll and to get the fuck used to it. Fuck that... Boss tried to bully me again. But this time, I went to corporate. Things changed IMMEDIATELY! And then, eventually, dude got fired. Other managers weren't happy about that, nor local HR. But I didn't appreciate being treated like shit, being publicly humiliated and denied the ability to fully do my job. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is whyyyyy working from home is much better than working in office. Oh... That's another video y'all should do!!! Your camera gotta be on! You still gotta dress like you're in the office! You're remote, but gotta trek to the office 3xs a month and you live an hour away from the office! Or you're hired as fully remote, and live in a totally different state, time zone even and are forced to either relocate or quit. You live in Topeka and gotta move to NYC, pay for your own relocation expenses and do all that in a month. And no pay increase. 😂😂😂😂

HR and Ethics departments for any company, are basically just formalities to make employees feel like they are cared for, and that the workplace is "fair", but everyone knows that the people that work in those departments are snitches, and anything you tell them will end up being used against you, because even though its supposed to be "anonymous" and "confidential", your bosses and coworkers always learn of whatever you discussed in those departments, and then your time at the workplace will end up becoming a living hell for you, so its in your best interest not to complain to them, if you don't want things to get worse for you later, you should only go to them if you don't care and have nothing to lose.

The hardest concept for me to wrap my head around in when studying HR as part of my business degree was the "Agency Problem" where self-interested managers waste companh resources on vanity projects against the wishes of the pragmatic shareholders who just want whatever earns money. Since companies usually fail due to the opposite issue of clueless shareholders micromanaging or commissioning bad projects against the wishes of managers who actually understand what consumers want, I kept misinterpreting it.

"Unlimited vacation time" doesn't have anything to do with HR employees being confused by their own portal. Salaried employees usually accrue paid time off as compensation, which is a liability for the company. When they can no longer accrue PTO, that's essentially like taking away that part of their compensation, which may not make any real difference in the amount of work that gets done per quarter, but it decreases the company's liabilities. Also, if an employee quits or is fired, they have no accrued PTO to cash out
@chadleatherby3309Ай бұрын
They give unlimited pto to employees then tell them their sales goal is so high to keep their job they can take no time off

If HR was honest, they would tell us we are the resource. Our work goes to federal taxes to pay debt. Lincoln didn't do shit for the slaves, when he did do in many involuntary slavery illegal. We are forced to choose to work and we are debt slaves. Anytime we accept a benefit or out of ignorance we accept our legal status we are locking ourselves into the system. Then if we speak up we get blasted because our delivery of the information is without tact and clarity. We are not a living man or woman, no we are a legal titled person. We are a commodity. Our legal name is all caps, for what reason would that style be used on legal documents? I'm not here to argue or fight nor will I lower myself to insulting statements but if anyone wants to have a calm constructive conversation, I'm down for that.

"Unlimited vacation" isn't just to avoid tracking vacation. It is to avoid employees aecruing vacation that then has to be paid when the employee leaves or is terminated. Makes payroll and accounting easier (accrued vacation is money owed to the employee and has to be tracked as such) And then your manager gets to approve it or not. I worked for a company that went to "unlimited" when I was accruing 4 weeks. New guideline was 3 weeks. So much for "unlimited". My then-manager allowed me 4 weeks but he got pushed out and my new manager would not stand up to HR (the previous one would and that is partly why he was forced out) and I lost a week - plus since no accrued vacation, when I got laid off, less money.

* Our HR department became very DEI a few years back. * Our HR department was all white woman, mid thirties, married, with children. No DEI here. * Our HR department had almost no idea of what we made, much less what employees we needed. * Our HR department dropped all our entry and promotion tests, because the DEI hires couldn’t pass them. * Our HR department gave out custom company calendars with children’s drawings as the theme, we’re a construction company. * All this is true.
