So glad I was a teenager in this era. I love this show!

I appreciated that they always kept the choreography simple enough to perform a reasonable copy in our living rooms.

Unless you were well-off or rich, you likely had no way to re-watch this back in 1985. VCRs were available, but not cheap. And recording off the TV wasn't ubiquitous with every VCR like it was in the 90s. And the people that did own them usually owned just one, and certainly weren't going to let their 14 yr old daughters mess around with their $500 (in 1985 money) toy. And back then, if you missed an episode, you had to wait for a rerun which could be possibly never. I sometimes see zoomers and millennials pining for the 80s... Please believe me, the 80s sucked. No internet, a few TV channels unless you were rich and lucky enough to live in a dense populated area that had cable TV (which only added 40 or so channels due to bandwidth limitations). Satellite TV was way better but significantly more expensive as the dishes were way larger than DirecTV. Fun times back then meant going to see a movie, bowling, rollerskating, smoking pot in the woods, drinking at a secluded lake and that was about it. You actually had to be social with people. In real life. Horrifying, I know... /end genX rant (by the way, the 90s kicked ass. the 80s sucked. The 00s weren't too bad either. On par with the 90s.) -edited for spelling.

Aside from Janet, Nia had the most commanding presence on the show after Erica Gimpel left. She's a born performer.
@MaskedMan66 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that Janet had a "commanding" presence, especially given how shy her character was. She had star power, that was evident, but it hadn't been properly harnessed yet.

I never got to see it much after the first 2 years. Thanks!

It's really surreal to see Janet and Nia dancing together including when Nia leads JJ by the hand to join the others dancing, given how the remix of "Trouble" Shep Pettibone did is heavily influenced by his "Pleasure Principle" remix. Hahaha

Interesting enough Nia Peeples inspired Carrie ann Inaba one of In living color famous Flygirl dance team, who went on to Dancing with the stars show. Inaba inspired many Asian pop dance groups which is Global cultural shift, now with the now Famed BlackPink group, IMO.

Lmfao, 😂😂😂😂never saw this in my life until now, & grew up in the 80s, I guess I wasn't really a fan of those 2 only Janet, this looks painful, when people didn't know how to dance.
@MaskedMan66 Жыл бұрын
How do you figure they didn't know how to dance? Everyone on this show was a triple threat-- some quadruple.
@felix1219842 жыл бұрын
Janet Jackson stole the show. Should have omitted the guitar players from background. They ruined the dance choreography !

No, she did not. Nia Peeples was the most powerful presence and performer in the room.

I appreciate Nia and Cynthia They were great , they were self-made women, Janet Jackson knew she'd become successful thanks to her mad, idiotic brother
@ralphangel5617 ай бұрын
Nah. She didn't need her brother. Just her own hard work and talents. Everyone else on the show disappeared afterwards
