At 9:47 the regurgitation reflex gagging almost made me do the same 🤮 . But Wow, You have some interesting marine stuff there, that somebody may want, or if not the scrap'yard will certainly take the bare metal. It would be a pity though, those 427s are not getting any easier to find. I really do wish you well :)
@hicksgarage34483 ай бұрын
Thanks, we will probably take the good stuff off of the boat and then back whatever is left into the woods and call it a cabin, then modify the trailer into a car hauler

The 427 FE engines have crossbolt mains. The engines are worth selling. The reverse rotation on one is a cam and timing chain swap. Get aftermarket heads with medium or high port heads and nice machine work, and you got something special. Let's not forget the distributors.
@donaldperson9483 ай бұрын
I have 2 rebuilt heads for a 1967-8 460 heads with screw in studs but no rockets or nuts! They might work! They have surface rust from sitting years! In California if you need them?

Yes, you got lucky. Chris Craft Roamer's are tough quality Express Crusers. Called Cabin Crusers back in their day. It'll cost $$$$ to restore her but there's a market for old Chris Crafts. I owned a 37 ft Roamer 1967. Loved it. But, twin engines are expensive so now I sail the great lakes.

They built the PBR boats of the Vietnam era , the boats length was 31 ft , two Detroit diesel at a 180 hrspwr ran through a jet drive due to slick river muddy conditions . The shielding on the vessel was mostly around the gunning and driver stations , they made use of newly developed ceramic shielding and ballistic blankets to line motors , tanks and drive systems . You found something very unique with a gem of yesteryear .

Does your roamer have a steel or aluminum Hull? The aluminum holes are more rare. They weigh a lot less than the steel hulls. She should make a pretty good turn of speed with those 427 V8s. They are low horsepower high torque engines. Transmission should be Paragon hydraulics 2 to1 reduction geared. These engines are very hungry though! Looks like a very interesting project. At least you don't have to worry about dry rot because it's not a wooden Hull.
@patriciosantibanez54582 ай бұрын

Great start. My take is, find a pair of ~100 hp diesels to install, then it will be a boat, you can afford to run, plus will have a resale value. JMTC. Best wishes all.

Gas was 31 cents/gallon in 1967. Granted 31 cents was worth a lot more then, but at speed this boat ran in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon,

So, Engines should be soaked with trans fluid and seafoam in each cyl. They'll turn then. Also, All yachts suck down fuel. The hull design of that model actual makes it more fuel effecient than a deep V hull. And, to sell it try contacting Mitch Lapoint's web sight and other Chris Craft enthusiasts site's. It'll sell eventually....

For us, who know very little about boats, I think it’s too far gone to go back in the water. Also the guy we got it from wants a couple of parts off of it. I got some marvel mystery oil too poor in each cylinder which looks suspiciously similar to ATF so hopefully that works.

Pull engines and rebuild, provided no cracked blocks. Yes one engine will be reverse of other. My boat the starboard was reverse. What that means is timing is opposite. Port engine was 5 deg BTDC whlle Port engine is -5 BTDC. What BOAT stands for "Break Out Another Thousand$". Have fun you will learn a lot.

It means the engines are counter rotating with different cam shafts I don’t think you really know what you’re talking about buddy
@rossbrumby19572 ай бұрын
@@davidmann4533unlike aircraft engines, boat engines dont run opposite rotation- twin outboards just use the gearboxes to rotate opposite. I expect inboard motors are the same. Larger boats with inboards use twin propellers that counter rotate on sterndrives.

Now please if you know nothing about boats get someone who has had a boat for years teach you the Rules too many of you Yanks with big dollars buy boats take on water start key then shit out of hell out to Sea knows nothing on how to drive a boat do it the right way and you will have fun knowing what ,how ,to look after your boat plus keep your family safe

Absolutely no such thing as a free boat. It pretty much signifies that Jesus doesn't love you anymore. Okay, I thought Y'all were considering getting that thing back on the water. I'm guessing that has an aluminum hull that's a + but the Ford motors are a kick in the nuts. 440's would have been soo much better. Irregardless, he is still severely pissed off at you.
