I've been feeling spendy lately too. Something that I do to get my mind off online shopping is focus on another way to improve my style, like giving myself a manicure/pedicure or ironing the wrinkled clothes in my closet so I can appreciate what I already have.

I'm currently doing a "no buy challenge" until 1st October. I just started but I have every good intention to succeed in this. No clothes or shoes or accessories.

These are all great tips!! My suggestion is to apply the “shop your stash” technique for whatever it is that’s tempting you. Not just for makeup, but really for anything… like if I’m really tempted to shop for skirts, say, I’ll spend a week really focusing on styling the skirts I already own. Can be applied to most anything: nail polish, red lipsticks, linen garments… helps me re-evaluate my current collection and gain clarity on whether I truly need the thing, and if so, the specific characteristics of the piece I’m looking for.

i'm currently trying to save up for a tiny house, so whenever i want to go on a shopping spree i ask myself; what would i rather have?

A suggestion for the linen pants that have worn out. Cut into shorts and use the cut off leg to repair the inner thigh area. Also get together with some like minded and same sized folks and have a clothes swop session. That way you end up with something new to your wardrobe, you haven't spent any money and you had a lovely time with your friends

Yes!! I’ve actually been thinking of doing this exact thing. It would be nice to have an elasticated pair of linen shorts anyways 😁.

I've been hunting on thred up for the perfect black dress. For weeks! I was seriously considering buying 3 different dresses that all had an element of what I was looking for. 😅 then I found a link on pinterest to my dream dress. I can't even remember the other dresses I was considering now.

This is a great video with a lot of helpful tips. I think our past purchases can inform our future ones. Over the past few years I've really enjoyed wearing dresses in the summer and last year I got a hold of a pair of dry wicking biker shorts to wear underneath to prevent chafing and for modesty in case the wind blows LOL I wore them on repeat so the spring I decided to get three more in different colors. That way I can wear my dresses more often throughout the week and that was one of the best clothing purchases I've made for myself recently. It also gave me the confidence to buy additional dresses in breathable Fabrics I love.

So I have to tell you that this video was so helpful for me that I watched it TWICE. And I will probably come back to it as a way to curb feeling spendy. Thank you so much for bringing up this topic!

I add to cart. Stop and clean my house. Then the feeling is gone. Sometimes I even forget that I have items sitting on a cart somewhere.

I hope you'll consider making your replacement linen trousers yourself. It fits in with your tip of getting creative and certainly works with a slow fashion ethos (and could save you a lot of money compared to buying from an ethical retailer). You've totally got the skills to do it. Don't be put off if you've heard that pants are hard to make/fit - certain very fitted trouser styles can be a bit tricky, but loose fit elastic waist styles really aren't, especially if you already have a pair of pants that you like the fit of to refer to. They are a lot easier to make than the dress you did an awesome job on. Let me know if you want some pattern suggestions to get started.

I’m seriously considering it! I have a pattern I could use (one from Elizabeth susann) but I’m not not sure if it’s the perfect shape for me! I’m thinking of turning these current ones into shorts and using the legs to patch/reinforce the inner thigh.

@@LaurenWMcKinney Sounds like a good plan for getting more wear out of those trousers as shorts. If you're not sure about the shape of the ES pattern you have it might be worth looking around for one that's more similar to the style you have. Or you could look into learning how to "rub off" an existing garment to make a pattern based on those linen pants, as you already know you love the fit of them. Good luck!
