Fun fact, a country completely surrounded by one other country, San Marino, is the world's oldest constitutional republic. The reason it ended up being surrounded by Italy is because during the war for Italian unification, San Marino took in many people who were being persecuted elsewhere for supporting unification. As a thank you, Giuseppe Garibaldi allowed San Marino to remain independent. The country was founded in 301 by Saint Marinus, but the constitution has been around since August 1600.

Lolwat how is 500€ "a lot more" than someone makes monthly in Spain? The minimum salary for a full time job is set to 1050€. Even for temporary jobs like harvesting the minimum comes to about 950€ (usually more because they're rated hourly). So even a half time job would be around 500€, definitely not "a lot less".

So the Columbia part of District of Columbia is named after a female personification of the US (like how the personification of the UK is Britannia). And she herself was named after Christopher Columbus. DC has a weird shape like half a diamond along the Potomac, and that's because DC used to be a full diamond that once had a half on the Virginia side (Alexandria). Alexandria broke away because of factors like economic decline due to neglect by Congress, wanting to keep slavery after hearing rumors of abolitionists in Congress attempting to end it in DC, and that Congress didn't build any public buildings on the Alexandria side thanks to a 1791 amendment (the Pentagon wasn't built until the 1940s).

9:38 - the average wage in Spain might be indeed not very impressive, but if your friend makes less than 500€ per month, it only means he doesn't really work, because every full-time Spanish employee earns way more than that, and even vast majority of part-time employees do. As a person who's been to Spain multiple times, I can say that this money is not even enough to physically survive there. So your statement sounds like a huge exaggeration.
@KrlKngMrtssn Жыл бұрын
You're right, I even think it is a bit condescending... It is low but living costs are low as well. If you look at their power purchasing capacity it's even very high. So what's the point. Great video. I knew most of the answers and wish I had walked by. One thing you mentioned at the end though, 500€ is way below the Spanish average wage. Most people that age would be making around 900-1600 euros I would say.
@TheAnthraxBiology Жыл бұрын
It depends on the area and in some areas the time of year, and a lot of people are not in legitimate employment or full time contracts. Employment is also over 10% plus rent in most cities would be below 500 euro. 500 euro would be close to half the wage of most people I know in Sevilla. I don't know anyone who earns 1600 a month, even my architect friend. My friends in Zaragoza don't even earn that much in full time work either.
@dariolbm Жыл бұрын
@@TheAnthraxBiology Dude what? I don't know how much you know about Spain, or Spanish people, or if you are even Spanish. First of all, if you take into account what is legal, the minimum wage for a 40h/week job is 1.080€ per month. The average wage per month in Spain for 2023 = 2.263€. So 500€ is not even 1/4th the average wage per month. On another note, taking into account "black money" or money that is being paid outside legal boundaries, some people that do small jobs, repairs, some plumbing or even work in the hospitality sector can be paid way less for 40+ hours per week, but no one would accept less than 700€ or so (if not in a very desperate situation). So, in short: 500€ is a lot of money if someone gives it to you in Spain, you will definitely appreciate it, but it is normally not even 1/4th of the monthly wage.
@samuelherrera76422 жыл бұрын

1. Looks like it was shot in the city of Valencia. The two towers in the background look a lot like Valencia's Torres de Serrano. 2. Spain's average salary is right in the middle of the table of European countries, right below Belgium and slightly above Italy, the Czech Republic, Portugal and the Baltic and Eastern countries. I don't know where he got the idea that average salary in Spain is below 500 Eur., but it's absolutely not true. Minimum legal wage in Spain is 1000 Eur. a month, and average is around 1800 Eur a month, so the guy in the video probably makes much more than 500 Eur.

I generally hate videos where money is given as a prize, they all seem staged. but in this video you can see the sincere reactions of the winners, and some questions were really worth 500 euros too 😅. i really like it.. subscribed

In Brazil, if you give anyone 500 €, they will love you for ever. This is more than 2500R$. Minimum wage in Brazil is 1212R$.

Love your videos, love geography and would be so happy to have the chance to participate in one of your videos!! I just wanted to give some context regarding the 500€ being "a lot more" than the monthly wage. First of all, if you take into account what is legal, the minimum wage for a 40h/week job is 1.080€/gross per month. The average gross wage per month in Spain for 2023 = 2.263€. So 500€ is not even 1/3rd the average net wage per month. So, in short: 500€ is a lot of money if someone gives it to you in Spain, you will definitely appreciate it and I personally would freak out, but it is normally not even 1/3rd of the monthly wage.
