distance zero implies the towers occupy the same space, and the rope clips itself to attach to the same point.. which is not possible. and even if the towers are touching, the rope can't bend in a perfectly sharp 180 degrees angle and go through itself to attach to the same point on both ends. that rope is either a tiny bit longer than 15 meters, or the distance from the ground is a tiny bit more than 7,5m. also the center of the two ends of the rope are at least the diameter of the rope apart from each other, which makes the distance > 0 it's nitpicking and obviously overthinking a simple puzzle, but it's true.

+sari jaradat - The cups problem is actually simpler. You can solve it in two flips. Rules say flip 2 at a time and flip all cups at least once. So following that: Before: Cup 1 Regular, Cup 2 Inverted, Cup 3 Regular 1. Flip cups 1 and 2 After: Cup 1 Inverted, Cup 2 Regular, Cup 3 Regular 2. Flip cups 2 and 3 After: Cup 1 Inverted, Cup 2 Inverted, Cup 3 Inverted So all cups are now facing same direction (inverted) As you can see only 2 flips were required!!

# 4 The task was, and I quote, "Which two cards do you need to turn over to see if John is right?". We know that Vowel cards are even but because we do NOT KNOW the supposed relationship between ODD numbers and Consonant cards, it is not possible to determine if he is right by turning only two cards. (Consonants could be either ODD or EVEN. And EVEN cards could be either Vowels or Consonants.)

I got them all right, but the trickiest one was the towers because the diagram was misleading. However, a2-c2=b2 has to be 0 since the hypotenuse and a side are the same length. Therefore the towers have to be touching to make a vertical line.

1) tip the container towards the handle, if it's half full the liquid will touch where the bottom meets the side and where ths side meets the rim. less than half & it will reach one and not the other more than half & it will spill over before it reaches where the bottom meets the side. 2) 1.05 +.05 = 1.10. & yes there was a ten cent impulse but I quickly rejected it 3) IDK (Parobola / straight line?) I swear I would have gotten it if not metric- I was distracted!! 4) The A & the seven- there is no spec for even or consonant cards. 5) 1 & 2, then 3 &2 or 3 & 2 then 1 & 2, same result (I like my solution better.) 6) (I thought there were 10 problems.)

The rope between the towers can only be 2.5 meters from the ground if the ground curves or the rope is not at the top of the towers. If the rope were to be at the top of the tower and the ground did not curve, then half the rope would have to occupy the exact same space as the other half, making the rope only 7.5 meters long. If it shifted even a little bit, there would be a small increase to the distance between the rope and the ground that is not accounted for. And I fail to see why in the cups puzzle, you don't flip first 1 &2 and then 2&3. Saves a step.

before i look at the answer, i think what you do it put a lid on it first (so the water doesn't come out), then tilt the jug so it is diagonal. If the water level meets the corners of the jug, it's half, if the water level is lower than the corners it is less than half and if the water level is higher than the jug corners then the water level is higher than a half. IT WAS RIGHT!!!! i swear that i did not look at the answer before typing this comment.

as others have stated about the cups, it can be done with only two steps. i approached the partially filled container a different way, though, and am not sure if it adheres to the rules. 1. mark the water level on the container. 2. seal the top. 3. flip over. if the flipped containers water level is lower than your marking, the answer is less than half... the few issues i had with this answer before i saw the solution were as follows: does 'marking' the container break the rules, by turning the container into a 'measuring' device (although crudely)? also, is sealing the container easier said than done given the container in the image is spouted? i also realized this will fail if the container is tapered... so... perfect cylinder, or not? and of course, 'after' seeing the solution, i realized i completely overthought this one
@kasperclausen20798 жыл бұрын
I used the exact same method. It's still allowed, and it doesn't break any of the rules. I guess you could say that you turn it into a measurement tool, but just the mark doesn't give you the right answer, you have to flip it first. So yes I do think it's allowed
@bonbonpony8 жыл бұрын
I figured out exactly the same solution, and I had exactly the same doubts, which means that the problem is not well-posed (if it were, it would rule out such doubts right away). Same as with the last question with the cups, which allows for a simpler solution with just 2 moves.

3 What is needed to know is that the distance height of the towers look similar to the space between the, making the answer between 8 & 12 m wide, so let's finish this up. We know they have well similar space between them looking like another 10 m could wedge in there, but we also know that it has a triangular-sort of form, bending in slowly. So where could it fit? The top? The middle? Nowhere actually, it could not fit, so we would have to literally cement it together to figure this out, but we cannot interact with it, so we use our heads, give your lazy brain a moment, I am not doing this for you…… The most likely answer is 11 m wide

Lol, you are an idiot. You didn't even use maths to solve it. You were just assuming some weird things. I don't get how people struggle so much with this one. I thought it was by far the easiest. even though they were all quiet easy. The tower one is solved by saying: The towers are 10 metres high. The rope is 15 metres long. The rope is 2,5 metres from the ground when it's at it's lowest point. That means the rope takes 7,5 metres to get down to that point. And it also takes 7,5 metres to get up again. Add 7,5 to 7,5 and you have 15 metres. That means the whole length of the rope is used to get down and up. And it also means that there is no additional rope to go any distance. So the towers are 0 metres from each other. Or you could say it's the same tower.

Yes except, in the card one, it only states that even numbers will always have vowels, but it never says that odd numbers can't have vowels, so you really shouldn't need to flip over B or 7, because it never specifically states that /only/ /even/ /numbers/ can be vowels.

Great video but there are 2 mistakes in it. As mentioned a million times in the comments the cup question can be done easier (or you forgot to say that all cups needed to stand be with the open side on top). And the 4 card question doesn't say that the cards with uneven numbers have consonants on the other side, it only tells us that the even cards have vowels on the other side. So answer a+4 could still be right. (And I read that some people said that the question with the towers isn't correct because of the curve of the rope. That's not true because it could be a really thin rope that folds in the middle instead of bending.) Nevertheless I really enjoyed these puzzles :) (Btw sorry for my bad English Haha I hope everybody still understands what I'm saying ;) )
@badrunna-im8 жыл бұрын
If a card has a vowel, it has to have an even number on the other side. If a card has a vowel and an odd number, that premise would be disproven. So for it to be true, a card with an odd number cannot have a vowel and vice versa. It does not imply that if a card has an even number, it has to have a vowel on the other side; an even number can have a consonant on the other side. e.g. Every man is a human but not every human is a man. You only need to check the vowels and odd numbers. The other cards can have either type on the other side and would not affect the truth value.
@kasperclausen20798 жыл бұрын
No the a+4 isn't right, cause if you turn around the 7 it could have a vowel on the other side, which would disprove the theory. The theory is that if there's a vowel on one side then there should be an even number on the other side. That means that if you turn around the 7 and it has a vowel, it would disprove the theory

The third problem is just basic logic a brain teaser if you will. If you were really trying to solve this using mathematics you wouldn't use the pythagorean theorem or a parabolic function like mentioned in the comments. In engineering there is a specific term for a rope or chain the hangs and the curve it forms called a catenary and the equation used in cartesian coordiantes requires the hyperbolic cosine function.

I did 5 in two flips, twice.
@kroks1238 жыл бұрын
at the cup one you need to do like this 2 3. And then. 1 2

The last problem only requires 2 moves. 1&2 then 2&3

7:45 just use a^2 + b^2 = c^2... Simple and easy

Except that it doesnt' apply because there is no triangle.
@NoobGames998 жыл бұрын
There has to be. The problem claims there is.
@freshrockpapa-e77998 жыл бұрын
NoobGames99 Where exactly is that claim? The picture clearly shows a catenary, not a triangle.

Draw a line at the bottom of the rope to the tower. Height is 7,5. Although I see your point that it's still not a straight line. But you see, it still doesnt work even if we cant use the theorem. The distance between the towers can't be zero. It can be very close though. The distance between the towers depend on the diameter of the rope. Since the rope is betwwen the towers, the distance can never be 0. That's a fact. So it still doesn't work.

+NoobGames99 but it's a imaginary question not a "find the physics behind it and imagine it in real life" puzzle

The first puzzle is incorrect. Ther is one mistake and one omission. The jug has a pouring lip, which means that if you pour, as shown in the diagram, the water will start to pour before it reaches the top of the jug. The result cannot be correct. The omission is that the jug is guaranteed to have parallel sides. If the sides are not parallel the "result" cannot work.

1-4 were trivial, 5 has a simpler solution - 1&2 then 2&3.

The qn is asking u to flip 2 cards only and prove John right or wrong. John said when there is a vowel on one side, there must be an even no. at the other side.

If I turn over A and there is a 1 on the other side and if I turn around the 7 afterwards and there is a consonant nothing is prooved, isnt it?
@nathanmarcione35448 жыл бұрын
Stachy it disproves it because the rule was that every vowel has an even number on it. So if you flip "A" and there is a "1" then it is proved wrong

cups is actually a two step 1-2, 2-3

I don't understand the problem about whether the water is half way, less than or above than, because its quite clear that the water is less than half way.. No abstract thought required to solve it, so is the problem supposed to be what is the solution to prove its half way without measuring it for someone who you assume can't see it correctly

@ragingbullgames14898 жыл бұрын
I think you turn the A and the 7 because instead of choosing the ones that prove it right I try to prove it wrong and if the A has a odd number I'm half right and if the 7 has a vowel Vowel I'm right (I think)

Very interesting. I wonder if that's a limitation of "mobile" devices? Either way, no worries -- I was trying to be helpful, but I guess Google hasn't allowed all features on all devices yet.
