YOU PUT 5 VOLT TAKE 1.7 VOLT....it is unnecessary work!

It's not very useful, it just adds complexity.

Well the circuit may be totally redundant and not useful in the least, but he got a million views so, yeah. Hmm.

This is potentially dangerous, you haven't provided information about the A/C input. If you're unsure, follow the instructions in this video to avoid connecting 220VAC and risking a circuit explosion. Please make it clear that the A/C input should be 12VAC.

More usefull will be 220VAC to 1.5VDC converter....

You could call this the redundant circuit. You added a diode to a full bridge rectifier that is composed of 4 discrete diodes. You did all that just to use it with a DC power source. All that just to reduce 5 volts down to 1.5 volts. It's not particularly useful. A battery on a quarts wall clock will last a year. If you loose power, you'll have to reset the clock. You'll also lose your freedom to put the clock anywhere you want.

Really now? AA batteries are cheap and abundant. And they last for years in use on a quartz clock. I'm not lazy enough to stop using them and go through the trouble of making this thing.

Go to market and purchase a alkine battery sufficient for 2 yrs minimum.😅😅

I always watch this mess for laughs, and it never disappoints. Using an LED as a Zener, and a rectifier and an additional diode just for the weight, how f cute. Not.

I just raid used battery boxes at work. People tend to throw away all batteries from a device when often it's just one battery that has gone bad or too low.

The same application (converter 5Vcc>1,7Vcc) don't require more than a resistor, capacitor and LED (in this circuit was used as 1,8V zener). With the 1KOhm resistor you can only drive a clock or similar.

Grato!

Also the 5V supply is DC (see multimeter). In which case you don't need the bridge rectifier.

Вытаскиваю севшие батарейки из тонометра. Одну из них вставляю в часы. После чего они тикают минимум года два. За это время появляется еще два десятка батареек, пригодных служить по два года в часах :))) У меня столько часов нет :(

It could be adapted to power something that requires 3V DC (two 1.5 V batteries) and a low current, by wiring two LEDs in series.

I have no idea what the point of this circuit is. What's the input? Running the clock on an AA battery for a year or 2 seems far simpler!

I just cannabalize USB chargers all day but your solution was ok if you have some extra components laying around = I really like that multimeter. The genuine apple USB chargers have a really nice no noise circuit. The rip off ones.. if you plug something into them, like Samsung USB chargers and many other brands.. you can hear the electromagnetic feedback when you turn on a radio to AM .
