Unless you set the hook on a log, changing the boat angle you're gently pulling from will free the lure 8 of 10 times. I had the real-retro unpainted no chain Lure Hound, (I added chains after newer models came out with this feature) it won't work in deeper rivers where the current can bow the dropper line. The best lure retriever, especially for rivers is a Freshwater Hall of Fame Capt. Emil Dean designed, 3 section, 13'-6" pole (effective working depth up to 12') with a specialized 1-1/4" slotted eye (to slide down the line) with a little curved hook welded to this eye. I freed tons of lures with it. (One river tree branch snag I pulled up off the bottom had 16 lures on it) It paid for itself in 3 lures and I sold it for $65 after 30 yrs of service.

What the Guadalupe Bass lack in size they make up for in having the coolest name. Another fun episode for sure. As I've said before, anytime we get to see you on that retro wagon is a treat - that boat rocks. I really like that set-up too. I've got an old Daiwa Apollo rod in the fishing shed somewhere and a Magforce reel to go with it. I think I'll have to mirror you in using them to pull some Wisconsin largemouth out of my little lake, and when I do I think I'm going to say "Guadalupe!" just for the fun of it.

Smoke/silver flake grubs were the go-to back in the day on Travis. I’ve done really well on super flukes and senkos too. Travis is where I first fished a senko the year they came out-Couldn’t get my hands on enough of those worms🤠 That is the lake where I learned how to fish deep. Where the perdanales and Travis meet I have caught all sorts of nice sized fish.

I fished with a similar set up back then, still do at times now. I have a pair of Magforce reels and two Team Daiwa TD1hi reels from the late 80's. The TDs are on TD rods, the Magforce is on a Daiwa Procaster cork pistol grip rod in 12-25lb med-heavy fast action. I've actually got a mix of reels from the late 80's and 90's. Most are Daiwa, with a few Abu and Shimano reels. My Abu 521XLT is on a Bass Pro Boron trigger rod, and I've got two later 90's TD103 reels on matching rods as well. For heavy cover I like my Daiwa Millionaire round reels on one of my Hank Parker flipping sticks. They get used for river fishing and for saltwater stripers as well. The flat a in a shad pattern and fire tiger are some of my most used lures. I've likely got a few dozen of them in various boxes here. My favorite bait casters though was
