I recently changed the "lifetime" fluid in the "sealed" transmission of my new-to-me FJ cruiser. I did a full change to include the torque converter & transmission. It was brown, old, and nasty. Shifts are noticeably improved post service.

Can't get enough of these videos! Thank you! I bought a 2014 981 CS w/PDK, it has just under 15K on the clock. Porsche scheduled maintenance recommends to replace PDK clutch fluid at 40k or 6yrs and trans fluid at 120k or 12yrs. I am the second owner, car came from CA. with only Carfax records. Question is, what say you on these fluid changes in the near future? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the video and great work. I have a 2017 718 Boxster S and thinking of doing this soon even I'm still under 40K miles. QUESTIONS: Have you ever replaced the plastic oil pan with a reusable Metal one, just replace the filter type? Some people have told me this is not a good idea. I've seen some plastic oil pans online from $50 to $500, any thoughts on the quality of any of the cheaper ones? What type of trans oil do you recommend, just Pentosin, or do you think Liqui Moly or Motul are better? Have you heard of there being a rear wheel alignment required after doing the trans service? Finally, what do you think about Liqui Moly products like the engine oil, or the Ceratec or the Pro Line Engine Flush, or any other products you can think of? Thanks a million and keep up the great work.

Tbh I prefer ZF 8HP over double clutch transmissions, it's still very fast, much smoother and you're not able to burn the clutch on it. BMW also went back to a torque converter auto on the new M5.

I agree changing the fluid, gasket, and filter and possibly flushes with new filter will keep the transmission lasting longer. Also fixing any leaky seals ASAP!

I really don't understand the logic that you shouldn't change the fluid if it hasn't been changed in a long time. If there is dirt and debris that may come loose, if the clutches are worn, if there is damage already done, then not changing your fluid still means that transmission will fail. If you replace the fluid, you are at least restoring the viscosity and protective qualities of that fluid, replacing additives, and hopefully cleaning gunk and debris out from where it doesn't belong. If the transmission is done for, that will still be the eventual outcome. If you change fluid when a transmission was already failing, and the change doesn't fix it, it's not the change that caused damage. Changing the fluid seems like the better option to me.

Great content Nathan. I really like your approach to good maintenance. I watched the video and there was talk about what fluids to use on high mileage transmissions. So I purchased a 2010 987.2 w/ PDK 40,000 miles. Since I don’t know the whole history and it’s time for the Tran fluid change (maybe the first time) should I go with the ZF or something else? Thanks!!

I purchased a 2008 Toyota 4Runner 4.0 SR5 V6 that has no record of transmission. Oil change , it has 198,000 miles on it . Will it damage my transmission to change the fluid and replace the filter ?

I have a 2012 Ford transit a Mechanic told me that if He changes the transmission Fluid it’ll Ruined the transmission . It has 210,000 miles on it and fairly dirty but runs and shifts very well I bought it with 200,000 miles on it. is there any truth to that?
