I would choose a distortion pedal because you can set it like an overdrive, a chorus because you always need it and depending on the chorus you can set it between a flanger and a vibrato, and of course, a delay which you can set it like a vintage reverb. So therefore, you have 6 pedals ;)

When you realize a lot of fx types are based around some sort of trick involving "Phase"(or some type of "Phase Cancelation" effect, etc.- like Phasers,Wah,Filters & EQ)... you start wondering if nearly all fx types can be boiled down to being Sub-types of just a few such as Delay/Phase/[Vol.Gain.Dynaics]/etc., ... then you realize PHASE itself really is DELAY!!! (& you start questionimg ???maybe their all delay...? but the few that you havent realized are yet are just utilizing delay in a very complicated/convoluted way??...So yeah basically almost all fx types are based around delays. [baring a few of the weirdo outliers like RingMod/P.P.L./Bitcrusher/Modellers/Transient Shapers/etc. + the -amplification/volume/dynamics-catagory (Tremolo always gets thrown in with modulation... but shouldnt it be considered dynamics?)1's & possibly some pitch fx(?)...but then again those also kinda seem to be based around delay as well (harmonizers, octavers, pitch shifters, etc. seem to work off "quantized/or time-stretched" repeats w/ or w/o panning/ & "Doublers/ Double-Tracking-Sims)definitely=Delays). & as you already said... Vibrato/Chorus/& Flangers... are honestly so close to each other that I'd say they really are only 1 effect type... & shame on any pedal manufacturers that don't give you all 3 in a single pedal! (How harder is it/much $ does it cost to + on a simple 2nd dry thru output (& a dry/wet knob if they wanna be nice) to turn any Vibrato into a Chorus + then a simple internal feedback loop (or an actual external-send/return 1,be even better) w/ a knob for mixing/blending between the feedback loop & the regular output- label it "Regen"/feedback... & now there Vibrato is a Vibrato/Chorus/& Flanger... then you've got Univibes/Vibes... which are often described as a type of cross between a phaser×chorus/Vibrato... so shouldn't be hard to throw 1 of those into their with an easy mod as well... & lastly the weird & confusing Lesslie/Rotary-Sim fx category... which barring newer ones that may use IRs to do it...im pretty sure quite often is actually either some sort of Stereo-Chorus/Phaser/or Univibe~ or possibly some sort of Frankenstein combo of those... or possibly some use some sort of strange shifting-(possibly M/S)-Phase Cancelation...or if not that probably result in the most realistic Rotary Sim.. as that's really kind of what they are doing.

Why? They're the exact same thing, reverbs just faster. A delay pedal can do anything a reverb pedal can do, and more. Hell, just play in a room and the reverb is free. It doesn't even have to be a room. An amphitheater would work just fine, and they can found almost anywhere a hill exists.

I run the gain on my Klone at about 4 o’clock so it’s definitely not a clean boost. But I’d call it low to medium od personally. My RAT and Angry Charlie get pretty heavy, by comparison.

No joke, for the past year I have basically only used a JHS Crayon, Double Barrel and Emperor going into amp delay and reverb and rarely feel like anything is missing. I use compression with one band but if I had to give that up I'd be fine. Sometimes I'll pull something off the shelf for fun but honestly it's been much better to not obsess about switching gear all the time and just focus on playing.

He’s definitely got the template right, regardless of the specific pedals. A fuzz, a versatile overdrive, and a solid delay are what I’d go with too. Picking readily available off the shelf pedals, I’d go with a Fuzz Factory, a Keely D&M Drive, and an El Capistan.

A looper, flashback delay 2, and a pro co rat distortion is what I use and can get nearly any sound I’m looking for out of them. The delay can be adjusted to sound like reverb and even a chorus pedal, and the rat has so much range it can go from overdrive to classic distortion all the way to fuzz. I haven’t found a need for much else recently

If money is unlimited: Memory Man and Silicon Fuzz Face are easy choices. MM can cover modulated delays, dry delays, slapback, and reverb, FF can cover cleans, edge of breakup, overdrive, and full fuzz. The third choice is the hardest. Either a Sonic Maximizer, a fully featured compressor like the Walrus Audio Mira, or a fully featured Parametic EQ like Empress Effects ParaEQ MkII Deluxe. BUT honestly, for my real-life budget, the Fuzz Face and a Zoom MS50G will cover every thing.

Depends on the amp. If it was something that had tons of gain like a boogie Mark 5 or Nomad I wouldn’t even pick a dist pedal. I’d say green full size Russian Big Muff, UniVibe, and prob just a boss delay so I could make short loops to solo over, do metal harmonies, get some slap back, also the delay effects coupled with the vibe you could get tons of modulation tones. I know it’s simple but the proven classics are the best for a 30 second decision affecting the rest of your life playing guitar.

As fun as dirt pedals can be, a good overdriven tube amp will always reign supreme in terms of pleasing tone. So I could probably live without a dirt pedal(it'd be hard for sure though). I'd have a flanger because you can actually cover a lot of modulation ground with them(chorus, heavy warble stuff, swooshy noises), a compressor because I'm a compression junkie and kinda sloppy, and either a reverb or short analog echo. Damn this was hard lol.

If I had to choose a keeley dark side pedal a nice reverb pedal and a tape delay so that gives ability to have fuzz modulation delay in one pedal then to have a separate delay that can be 1/4 or dotted 8th. Then going into a nice reverb depending on the amp used would be killer setup on a smaller platform if you enjoy Floyd and fuzz’s like me

@@dahlbaker if I had to do the same thing in this video, one of my 3 essentials would HAVE to be a multi reverb pedal, in my mind, drive is obviously essential, but reverb is technically my personal favorite effect, though I also see it as essential as drive. As amore extreme metal style guitarist, I obviously live in hi gain land for the most part, but I love super clean clean channels with lush ambient verbs as a musocoan and guitarist in general even before the heavy metal part of it. 90% of my songs are hi gain sections, but my noodling and jamming sections are pretty 50/50 I'd say.

Wampler Belle / Supro Tremolo / Strymon El Capistan Belle is essentially an ODR-1 w/ less bass, Supro Trem has harmonic trem and can also be used as an additional gain stage, and I get get lost in the Strymon El Capistan for hours
