7:29 this is why a good mix starts with a good arrangement.

Agreed, and also why its so important to get the source tracks sounding their best, before even mixing. That helps avoid all the multiple processors in the first place.

Everything in this video was so spot on... except your claim that you could master my track to make it sound like it does in my head 😅

Appreciate these videos! Great insights that are easy to understand. FWIW I have used Sage for mastering and it is always a great experience!

3:16 I think this is the biggest mistake in mixing today. The overuse of Soothe2 or other similar FFT compressors is becoming very common these days. This week I heard a Latin song on the radio where the singer's voice was so compressed in its resonances that it sounded like an AI singing.

I like to add saturation as a chain parallel to the compressor and eq so it doesn't affect how they work.

I watch many videos on KZbin and research a lot about this mixing topic. I noticed that there are some producer who didn't even mix their beats or songs but they are still sounds fire on KZbin idk what to do about it 😢😔 please guide me!!!

When Will you guys have mix and master reviews as anpther option in you membership? I only want reviews, tips and feedback

They have it already

I did everything for like 2 year's but Whatever I do it doesn't work. It does work for Spotify but I couldn't make my beats or songs loud on KZbin idk what should I do to make my stuff's louder 😔

DERES by WA Productions is a good and cheap alternative to Soothe, because it trains your ear to hear real problem resonances, like whistling build ups, and then you can A/B with the resonance in and out and verify you actually found a real whistle and didn’t just imagine you heard it. There have been times, on vocal tracks for example, I don’t find any whistles. But when you do all of a sudden your ear can hear it in the unprocessed track and it can be shocking at that point how obvious it was. Highly recommend. Great video BTW!

It’s better than soothe. Way less destructive . Soothe makes the audio lifeless easily .I sold my soothe license a year ago

I would say the alternative to Soothe is Spectral Compressor. More or less the same thing for free.

3:55 This visual overlay is so perfect. Like yes I know that's what soothe is doing intuitively, but I feel like seeing the fab filter curve as well should make a lot of people second guess how much and when they're using soothe type plugins. I would very rarely hit those intense of curves if I'm manually sculpting with dynamic bands in fab filter
@andreksjour11 сағат бұрын
In my testing soothe clearly is identifying what to cut based on some kind of algorithm. Not on loudness. But it depends on the material how obvious that is. I'm curious what sound was used in this video, that it just followed the eq curve so close.
@BenIsOnlyAsking11 сағат бұрын
@ it’s certainly not just “loudness” cause that would hit any frequency above the threshold and wouldn’t distinguish resonances. But I’m pretty sure it just measures the peaks of smaller frequencies and setting some parameters to define a “resonance”. They’re pretty transparent in the manual that it’s just a dynamic resonance suppressor. I imagine you could test it with a sin wave and a resonance filter to see how it defines resonance. But that certainly isn’t a “musical analysis”, again that’s just taking loud resonances and turning them down. Basically a dynamic eq
@andreksjour10 сағат бұрын
@ The algo seems to have a threshold for resonance selectivity, but again loudness or peaks don't seem to matter. It certainly isn't just a dynamic eq. A dynamic eq can't change frequency.

Before you add ANY EQ or compression, see how far you can get with volume and panning. Save a bounce of that to reference the raw sound of the tracks. Now cut some unnecessary lows with a high pass. NOW start some light EQ and compression if you need it. You'd be surprised how far along you are already at this point. Some of the best mixes you've ever heard don't go much past this stage.
