I'm English but still have very limited knowledge of cricket, here's everything I know. Cricket is like baseball in that there is a bat and a ball and the fielders would like to catch the ball before it hits the ground to get the batter out (but only if they start running I think?), however in cricket, from what I know, the bowler (pitcher) is trying to hit the stumps behind the batter, which means *aiming directly at the batter with a VERY hard ball* also, if the batter hits the ball and th ball hits the outer ring after hitting the ground that's 4 runs and if it flies past the outer ring that's 6 runs for the batting team, you switch sides when everyone on the batting side is out, this means that matches last days and each team will have runs into the hundreds, and when the ball doesn't hit the outer ring the batter is doing runs where they run to both sides of the thing (idk what it's called) and that's how the get runs without hitting the outer edge, if the fielder knocks off the wicket before the batter can get to it then that batter is out, simple!

On the topic of batters and bowlers, teams will have specialists in both. Not everyone bowls but everyone does bat. The better batters will be your openers and higher up on the list (batters go out in a set order) while your bowlers will be at the bottom and are typically not expected to be great batsmen. Bowlers focus on a specific type of bowling, be it fast, spin, or a hybrid style. Fast bowlers will be the "attacking" bowlers who start the game with high energy very fast deliveries while spin bowlers bowl much slower but can make the ball turn huge angles if they're good. Look up Shane Warne's first Test wicket, or any compilation of Shane Warne to see what a truly masterful spin bowler can do.

To answer your question on when its your turn to bat, it depends on the type of cricket being played: T20 (after 20 overs), One day cricket (after 50 overs), and test cricket (after all batters out). And test cricket is played over 2 innings, potentially over 5 days.

Cricket is one of the biggest sport in the world that I know next to nothing about, apparently these matches can last 24 hours straight, and for big matches, tickets can go for upwards of $4000 apiece

I love that Dan was concerned for gg fans who DO understand cricket hating the episode, but honestly I think it was amazing to watch them learn to play and grow in understanding, kind of like fans who love to explain their favorite game to people!

When arin asked when it was his turn I couldn't help but laugh.

As a Brit, this is hilarious. Also, yes Arin, the shin shots are brutal. Those cricket balls are hardened leather and they feel like a rubber bullet from a full speed pelt.

I had a dream that the Grumps played cricket last night, what a weird coincidence...

I don't know why, but considering Dan's history with sports love, I expected him to at least know the roundabout rules of Cricket! Just wait until they learn about LBW....or how hard a Cricket Ball is, I'm still hurting from one that hit me 30 years ago

There is a movie about the Indian team playing in a world championship and it’s a real underdog story and I’m sorry for not looking it up before I decided to write this but like, that movie was good. My world history teacher put it on one rainy day and I had to go find it to finish it. It’s such a feel good story. I just cannot remember what it was called.... Just looked it up, it was set a lot sooner in time than I thought and it’s a true story. “83” it’s so good, and I still know nothing about cricket.

This is fascinating. As a cricket fan, I found it impressive how quickly Dan got the concept of the 4 and the 6

In 2006 I was in London and each morning they had cricket games on the television in the cafe of the hotel.....I never learned what was going on then and I certainly haven't learned how cricket works now

Football (soccer) is the most popular sport in the world because it's popular throughout most of the world. Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world because it is the most popular sport in India. Let that sink in for a minute.

The 6, 4 and 1 are about the number of runs they get, running is from end to end, from one set of stumps to the other, like you observed. You have to get all the other players out to get your turn on bat. That's all I know about cricket.
