The trolley dilemma is so stupid because without changing the course of the trolley, those who were already fated to die do so, but by pulling the lever… YOU are making the choice to murder someone. in one scenario you are an innocent bystander to a tragedy, in the other you are the one causing the death yourself and are culpable for punishment. It’s less about the comparable weight of one person vs a group of people and more an insight into a persons mentality and whether or not they deem themselves important enough to actually weigh those options. whether or not a person feels they have the authority to dictate who gets to live or die.
