As a South American myself I always wondered why these countries are simply forgotten and not integrated whatsoever with the rest of the sub-continent. It's not just people people farther North in the continent that don't know of their existence, for us in the South it's as though they are not even there to the point that you won't learn anything about them in your school life. The fact that Sabbatical probably had to fly all over from Buenos Aires to NY and then back to Georgetown to get there, proves to what extent these countries are just isolated from most of the region. Thanks for showing this for us so ignorant about how these people live and we can only hope that in the future we can do some work on proper integrating the region.

I'm originally from Guyana,came to the USA in 1977. Guyana is a small English speaking country in the Northern tip of South America. We have less than 1 million people living in a country larger than Idaho or the UK. We are however; culturally Caribbean. The Guyanese's political history is not as straight forward as some might want you to believe. President Forbes Burnham and Cheddi Jagan used to be friends. Guyana educated some bright and brilliant people, scattered all over the World today. The older generations are more educated than the youths of today. Burnham had restrictions on speech and imports. He thought that making us self reliant was better than depending on the West. Burnham died in 1985. The economic situation in Guyana today can't be blamed only on him. Most Guyanese are friendly, hard working, and peaceful people. Over the years, I've taken my husband, kids, and grands to visit. Thanks for educating the World on some of our history. Stay safe. 🇬🇾

@@JC-wi2jz Not like the America. Why there are more Indians in certain areas is because after slavery most of them worked on the plantations and farms and stayed there but it is not the type of segregation like the States. Black people tend to live in the cities because they were not into heavy farming. The threw their hoes down that is why they had to bring in the Indians, Portuguese and Chinese to work as indentured labourers after slavery. You can buy a house and live anywhere in Guyana. A lot of the Ameridians live on their original land in the interior and has been discriminated against. There are more Indians because a great percentage of the other races left after Burnham destroyed the country. Indians also had extremely large families more than anyone else. But you can choose to live where ever you want.

It no different that how people speak in the different states of America speaks with different accents. Plus, even in United Kingdom with the English, Wales and Scots. Guyana was formerly named British Guiana which means we learn the English from Britain, of course, without the British accent.

Thank you sabbatical. My Grandparents came over to England from Guyana and I’ve never been able to go over there. They have only ever said good things about Guyana and I’m happy that you’re showing it as the beautiful place it is
@MAYBEE902 жыл бұрын
Hey, I’m Guyanese-American, and my parents have taken us back to Guyana a few times for vacation. It is so beautiful! But, in recent years, I think things have gotten way more dangerous. A few years ago, I would have recommended going, but rn it is too many robbers killing you for the smallest amount of money in your pocket. Even though you have Guyanese background, they will know right away you’re a foreigner, and you’ll be at risk. I wish the government was able to make the country a safer place for tourism.

Exact same story here, dude. I randomly had the thought to look at videos of Guyana as I've never given it much thought. No one can tell where I'm from looking at me, so it'll likely be the only place on the planet that I'll experience similar looking people to me.

@@tear6510 I've been to Guyana, Trinidad, and Jamaica before. I've also been to other islands like Barbados, the Bahamas, Aruba and St. Kitts, plus I've lived in both Saba and St Maarten for a bit, too. The last time we went to Guyana, my family living there had armed security at their front yard at all times. So we did have a security detail , and things felt a little dicey there after dark. It's not the safest place, sorry. I've heard of lots of robberies there. If you do go, always travel in a larger group, and that goes for anywhere you travel. Safety in numbers.

@@MAYBEE90 girl im Guyanese and im home minimum twice a year. I have also been to over 40 countries including the ones you mentioned.. you havent seen real crime.. okay. Guyana isn't even close to how dangerous jameaica and trinidad are. I go to jamaica 2 to 3 times a year and trinidad i only go during carnival and we go nowhere alone bc its so dangerous.. Both jamaica and trinidad have multiple murders and robberies a day.. so stop the cap..most murders in guyana are related to domestic violence. Yes there are robberies and crime, but if you live in the states then just be quiet. No one in guyana or the Caribbean are committing mass murders in schools, movie theaters, concerts, grocery stores etc.

The darker coconut oil is used for skin and hair. The clear virgin coconut oil is used for cooking (can also be used on skin and hair). The pastry is called Chinese cake or "chiney cake" (pronounced chi-knee) in the Guyanese patwa/creole. It is of Chinese origin, but the Guyanese version is made with a short-crust pastry and black eyed peas instead of black beans.
