They are covering only one side of the problem, I think. The other side is why there is such a level of corruption in the former colonies. And the truth is, that the former colonizers needed the support of corruptible local officials in their era. And after the decolonization these corrupt local elites were those who came into power. So the culture of corruption was in fact brought by the former colonizers, because systemic corruption was needed to rule the country against its people. And many of these corrupt officials are elected. Why do people vote for them? Because they simply have the right connections to rule the system and candidates who would like to play fair are eliminated.

This is such amazing Journalism. It’s a pity that this is happening in Guyana, the Caribbean and the rest of the world. I’m Jamaican and I think the same thing is happening here. For example the Road Construction that happened and what’s going on in The Cockpit Country, mining for bauxite. This is a problem as the Cockpit Country is important for Biodiversity and the mining will affect Communities. Another thing is it will affect sacred land for the Maroon people. I feel like eventually Jamaica, Guyana and a lot of other countries will be in debt to China and won’t be able to pay it back. It’s gonna be a disaster.

Having been in Guyana recently, I wonder if the Chinese businesses at the Brazilian border were also involved in money laundering. There were multiple enormous Chinese warehouses in this tiny border town, all full of the same goods but completely empty of customers. Nobody seemed to know how they were actually making money, but they apparently paid no tax due to a special deal with the government.

US can stay out of Latin America we don't need or welcome their "help" they have been committing genocide in LATAM for the sake of BANANANAS, yes USA commited genocided in LATAM for bananas. They call LatAm their backyard and our history is full of blood and violence fueled by USA with their coups and destabilising our countries. We welcome China to work with us in LatAm, it is our trade with China that has loosened the economic noose USA had over our countries. And Belt and road initiative is great for us, we were not forced to join BRI or trade with China, in fact we are threatened by USA for it, but we do it regardless because it has proven to be of win-win even restoring our sovereignty. Also Guyana is a special case it was a UK colony, and UK illegally annexed much Venezuelan land, around half of current Guyana, and these regions are kind of lawless and both countries claim with the legitimacy been of Venezuela (who is UK to usurp Venezuelan land for Guyana?) Thus indeed Guyana is a country that is easily abused as it is small and isolated in South America, but Latin Americans form a community of 660 million people and form a common family of nations. We do not fear China, we see China as a counterbalance to an evil anglo hegemonic neighbours in our hemisphere which has constantly committed heinous aggressions against the people of LatAm. We look forward to Chinese military bases in LatAm to further protect us.

As a Chinese, I feel frustrated when watching this documentary. I wish there is a better way for us to cooperate with governments in other countries. Corruption is not only hurting the Guyanese but also leaving space for those Chinese corrupted officials to do the money laundry. This kind of issue has also been addressed in China as well. Tons of money have been wasted during the process of 'getting deals done'. A transparent and legal Bidding procedure is highly preferred. As for building a dam in the deep of the forest, I think every country is evolved into the Industrialization and Globalization nowadays, passively or dominently. If it is not China, it gonna be some other countries. The problem is development and environment should not be the conflict. For example, at the beginning of the video, the mines are left unrecorved after mining. That is illegal in China. the local government has to issue laws and regulations to limit the behavior of mining companies. otherwise, nobody gonna protect the local environment. I wish the best for the Guyanese and their beautiful country....

As a Canadian with deep knowledge about Western Corruption practices I can tell you 110% the US and other Western interests are doing far worse things all around South America, this is actually a very tame level of corruption that is only profiting directly off valuable resources and controls who gets to setup in the country (also stopping far worse corporate interests like Nestle or Exxon from truly destroying the land and leaving it an unlivable wasteland or a drugged out cartel controlled murder hotspot like the USA does in so many places).

I also pray that my country and Guyana will set themselves free from the clutches of corruption.
@willzyxOfficial2 жыл бұрын
External influence can be both good and bad, almost no country grows alone by themselves, but it depends what form it takes. China's approach of using debt to seize natural resources, and bribing corrupt leaders, is terrible, especially in the long-run. As the video also says, the US/West is mostly reacting to counter China. Free money doesn't exist, and you need money, but if the West offers money, in return for democratic reforms, or China offers money, in return for mining rights, I think it is clear what benefits the country most. Problem is, the people in charge benefit more from China's bribes, not from democratic reforms that limit their power.

The game is rigged this is a global attack on the indigenous ppls of the world.
