When we start off in our meditation practice it's good to have an adequate road-map for the journey. This means the process can unfold in the most beneficial and smooth way. However sometimes when we "turn the lamp around", we end up in territory we're not prepared for. Drawing on his 20+ years of teaching meditation and Zen, Daizan Roshi talks about some of the things to expect along the way and what to do when we end up in unexpected territory.
Zenways (www.zenways.org) promotes and encourages activities and practices that enhance human wellbeing, balance and awakening (satori or kensho - the enlightenment of Zen) in the many different situations we find ourselves in. Over many years of strict training, in Japan and the west, Julian Daizan Skinner Roshi received dharma transmission and permission to teach in both the Rinzai and Soto lineages of Zen. He now teaches at the Yugagyo Dojo in London, UK. May these recordings help you and those around you to find and realise the truth.

Ive finally worked out that the teachers voice and inflections remind me strongly of the spiritual non dualist Rupert Spira.

Like Eckart Tolle I prefer awareness than mindfulness as our mind is full enough as it is! 😅

is seeking pleasure not part of clinging, grasping? I was taught to accept that phenomena in the jnanas is not to be sought after, so as to not generate craving. what is your understanding, im curious? thanks!

This is one of the best videos on meditation. I don't think it is in the book "Practical Zen". "Bits of unlived life arise and become free." That is the first time I heard the product of meditation put that way. The quote is: "Once they have been to Paris, how are you going to keep them down in the farm?" Its an old WWI song.

Does sitting position really matter? I say this as I like to totally relax, and I kind of end up slumping a bit in my chair. For me its what happens inside. Thank you.

Yeah, it does. It's all about balancing the body so as not to waste energy. If you're slumping you're imbalanced.
