I also bought a Springfield Ronin Elite 1911 10mm pistol for $1,000.00. After sending it back to Springfield to re-machine the rough breech face & than paying a Gunsmith to adjust the heavy 6.5 pound trigger pull down to 4-1/4 pounds it too is now a not only beautiful but reliable pistol.

My Rock Island 1911A1, chambered in 38 Super, is just as good as my son's Auto-Ordnance Corp, again in 38 Super. There is also an EAA chambered for 45 ACP. All good, reliable firearms. Ammunition for the Super is scarce these days, 45 ACP is not bad but available at a reasonable price. Good pistols in good calibers.

In my opinion if one chooses a 1911 for serious work ( you plan on betting your life and your families on it.) a basic mil spec 1911 with only 2 modifications 1 sights you can see clearly and safety you can rest your thumb on. The other ltem I recommend is a 22lr conversion kit. Dont buy another 1911 in 22lr! This way you can train for much less expense with YOUR primary 1911. Remember a $500 1911 with 2000 rounds that you personally put through it is better than a $3500 1911 that you only put 50 rounds through.

@@Sequatchiemm Kimber makes a good 1911. Check and see if it has an internal or external extractor ( internal is preferred) and since you already have it and you like it. Buy ammunition and shoot it! Also I recommend getting some 45acp snap caps and do a lot of dry fire practice with the snap caps. , things like draw and fire, sight alignment and trigger control. And the 22lr conversion kit is a major money saver!

Rule of the thumb is you definitely get what you pay for. I couldn't afford a high end like Wilson etc... Went halfway with a Springfield TRP. Myself personally don't quite get the full length guide rod thing. Especially a two piece. You need a allen wrench to break it down. I went GI with flat wire recoil spring from Wilson. 10-8 plug. Been running Wilson 47-D since day one. Worth every cent and I'm extremely satisfied with it. Tight with about a 5/6 hundred round break in period. After a few thousand rounds. Flawless. Good video.

Have owned many 1911's in my time on the planet. The tighter the gun the better chance for a failure. For a defensive pistol reliability is foremost for competition accuracy is foremost. If you can afford multiple do so youll find each has it's own character.

I’ve got cheap and I’ve got not so cheap 1911s. 16 to be exact. All of them are great firearms. The ones from the Philippines, Turkey, Germany and the USA are ALL fantastic. I’m no match shooter but I’m as good with the Tisas as I am with the Les Baer. Ambi safeties have all been swapped to extended LH only. Triggers and hammers that weren’t, have been swapped to skeletonized ones. I prefer flat faced triggers. Grips, except those on my 2011, are all custom Bloodwood. Some have had sights swapped, some not. The biggest thing I’ve found to make one reliable, is a good magazine. I like the Kimber and Remington stainless steel mags myself. None have ever left me down. I’ve also gone to full length guide rods on those that did come with them.

I have a Ronin and I love it. The 1911 trigger is so good and so smooth. The only downsides to owning a 1911 in my opinion are the lack of magazine capacity (I recommend getting as many 10 round magazines as possible) and if you’re looking for a pistol that you can mount optics on the 1911 isn’t the answer. Of course there’s the 2011 but they are rather pricey and there are cheaper alternatives for that. If you own one show it as much respect as you can, because while I don’t think anything bad would happen, I do not want the spirits of General Patton or John Moses Browning haunting me.

I've owned a total of 13 1911's over a span of many years. 5 Colts, 5 Springfields, and 1 RIA. All are ordinary production level guns. Most were gone now, sold away except 3. The RIA Pro Match Ultra FS, a Kimber Custom II, and a Colt 1991. The RIA, though the cheapest buy, is equal to the fit, fitting, and reliability of the Kimbers, a definite better than my Colts and Springfields. If you have the money..... don't splurge it, do research so you get the BEST bang for your buck. Most anyone I know today are feeling financially squeezed. If I were to buy a gun today, for my needs, I would get either a RIA GI or a Springfield Milspec. The only things I'll change on the Milspec are to put a flat MSH and change its guts to standard rather than the factory ILS. On the RIA, I'll change to a better grips and replace all the springs with better Wolff springs.

The Springfield Armory Loaded and Mil-Spec are Great Bases to create Outstanding Carry or Competition 1911s but you have to check to make sure that you start with a Tighter Springfield to get to the Higher Next Level. A few years ago I wanted to take a Mil-Spec SA to build up and it took me 9 months to find the right Mil-Spec because I was looking for a Really Tight Pistol that was Assembled Extremely Well. I found the pistol got it and then I started to change out parts with the proper fitting of Smith Alexander .220 Beavertail Grip Safety and MSH /Slim Magwell, Nowlin Arms PRO Fire Control Tool Steel Parts, Cylinder and Slide Thumb Safety and Long Aluminum Trigger Fitted to the Frame plus EGW Custom Barrel bushing that is 0.01 Over the outside Diameter of the barrel and 0.01 Under the Inner diameter of the Slide and finished the pistol with a set of Hogue G-10 Checkered Magwell Grips. That pistol is now capable of 3/4 inch groups at 50 yards shooting from a Bench Rest with Federal Gold Match 230gr FMJ Ammo or Service Grade Match ammo. The pistol cost me just over 600 out the door and put another 300 dollars worth in parts and did the work myself and I have had people at my Club offer me 2k plus for it and I will not sell her because she was the first 1911 that I completely rebuild even though the pistol was brand new when I got it. I also own several SIG 1911 mainly their TacOps model which is an Awesome Carry Pistol and I was very Lucky to pickup my first TacOps which was one of the Transition Pistols from SIG Blackwater 1911 to TacOps which came with Tool Steel Internals NO MIM parts and was Hand Fitted by C&S Pistolsmiths to perfection that pistol was born in 2011 then in 2016 I pickup the TacOps 1911 Carry the 4.25 Commander model which came with MIM Parts but I replaced all the MIM with Tool Steel from Wilson Combat and Nowlin Arms but my favorite is a Special Order SIG GSR Blackwater World Wide that was a pistol that SIG made for the Employees of the Blackwater Armory and Pro Shop plus the Admin as thanks for the Help with the SIG P226 Blackwater and 1911 Blackwater. The Blackwater GSR was Hand fitted and the Front Strap was hand done by C&S and shoots like a dream even with the Series 80 feature of Firing Pin Block the Trigger is perfect at 3.75 to 4.0 LBS. The seller did not know what they had but I remember seeing those pistols during my time in Uniform because my unit sent us to Blackwater to train at their facility for some Specialized training back in 2008. One of the MAIN THINGS that is PROPRIATORY about SIG 1911s is their SLIDE because they will NOT go into regular 1911 Kydex Holsters but will fit the majority of Leather Holsters for Pistols with Rails as long as you use the Plastic Bag Hack to Stretch the leather.

My rock island has an extended beavertail, standard. Skeletonized trigger, and a skeletonized hammer, standard as well. Stainless steel no but I don't plan on shooting 20,000 or 30,000 rounds through it. I didn't buy it as a status symbol to impress my friends . And with the money I saved I get to purchase more ammo.

I agree that a Rock Island armory 1911 is a good product. I have one it's never let me know although I don't have a lot of rounds through it. It's fine to buy a 22 conversion kit. But if you do that you're putting more wear and tear on your primary self-defense gun. If you buy a dedicated 1911/22 you can really train the same. No you're not training with your primary self-defense rifle but your training with an exact copy of it and you're saving wear and tear on your primary gun. In a lot of ways a handgun is a handgun. You're still going to grip it the same You're still have the same rules about controlling your breath trigger pull etc. I myself bought a Browning buck mark to train with simply because I like it it's a target pistol and I'm putting in work with a pistol. And I'm not putting wear and tear on my other gun. And when you have the 22 you can just go to town and shoot all you want all day. Although 22 ammunition has gone up and cost sure but you can still afford to shoot it. Everybody can train how they want it's there's not one correct way I don't think but let's just how I do it.
