Have been skiing the '23 QST 92 here at Mt Hood Meadows for the past year and could not agree more with pretty much everything you had to say (and the Ski Ess. guys, too). This is a great all mountain ski, carves beautifully on groomers and is plenty fast for me, and runs through the trees easily. Not the best in deep powder but we don't get that 2'+ dump very often anyway. Plus it's truly an insane value, IMO. Recently discovered your videos and have binging them. Really love your casual yet informative presentation (thanks for not being one of those ski dorks who talks over the passionate amateur's head) and no BS reports. Keep up the superior work and keep them coming, E!

Hey I’ve been binge watching your videos for the past few days, really like your honesty and not going with the flow of every other ski reviewer. It was getting hard to make a choice when everyone says the same stuff and doesn’t offer critical commentary of their skis. Could I ask you for some quick comments to help me choose between the qst 92 and kore 93. Im in europe and am looking forward to a bunch of fresh snow but still most of my time is spent on piste. I am 180cm 80-85kg so around 6ft and 170-180 i think. Intermediate to advanced. Trying to get good carving performance for a ski of this category, i understand the sacrifices it makes. The kore sounds really promising but it being so lightweight makes me question it (not from personal experience but people bring it up as a possible issue). Ive mainly skied race skis before but am excited to venture out! Thank you

Hi Eliot, I like the QST 92 so much that I own it in two lengths. My local mountain is Mammoth Mountain. I use the longer length (168cm) for hard pack of piste conditions in the winter and the shorter length (160 cm) in the spring . . . I know sounds crazy, but I was able to get the 2023 version for under $350. I also own the Salomon QST 106 for powder. Keep up the great content.

Skied on the QST about seven years ago not long after I purchased the Volkl Kendo, it was very icy in the morning and the ski was not enjoying it as opposed to the Kendo which handled those conditions comfortably. When the snow started to soften up thats when it seemed to come into it's own. Overall I prefer my Kendos.

Both the Kendo and the qsts were completely different skis 7 years ago. Your experiences say nothing about the skis being discussed in this video.

I have these in the ‘22 version. They seem very similar in shape to the ‘23. A little more early rise in the tip and more splay in the tail in the ‘23. What I notice most about these is the amount of camber. I think that’s what makes them so fun. Lots of energy on those short turns in the trees. My carving isn’t what you would call elegant, but they do seem to handle speed quite well. As someone who has to travel to ski I tend to leave them at home however and bring my Fischer 102’s as a more all around ski. But I would definitely recommend them for sure.

Great vid -- liked it alot better than some of your older reaction videos where you react to videos you didn't like. What I liked best about this video was the info you added about comparing the ski against other similar skis. This is super helpful for people in the market for buying, and also interesting/fun to watch. Keep up the good work!

In my previous Atomic Vantage 90CTi. I preferred the 176cm which was more than plenty of ski. I got the Salomon QST in 184cm and i was very happy with its extra length in off piste conditions. It was still nimble in that extra length in the trees bumps and plenty floaty in knee thigh deep powder. I pretty spend my whole winters in niseko. The contact length is fairly short so its is very turny for the length.
@mrremke
@mrremke 5 ай бұрын
My brother has that vantage 184. I understand that it's the predecessor to maverick. One thing that atomic has always done right is edge grip, and springiness when unloaded. That's a wicked ride on Eastern "groomed ice"
@TheJeffatan
@TheJeffatan 5 ай бұрын
@mrremke the 184cm wasn't too hefty for me. I'm 175lbs n 5'11" but I felt that the extra length took away some of that little playfulness. Compared to a Volkl Mantra it was comparatively playful. I found with the Atomics they didn't release the tails as easily as ghe QST92...through the trees and bumps. But with playfulness comes less precision. I was willing to live with that because..Japan conditions suit this type of ski. I might got the QST98 next time though even though the floatation in knee/thigh deep pow was the best in the sub 95mm category.

How do you like/compare the QST 92 to the Head Kore 93? That's interesting that your local shop doesn't carry the Stance. I admit I see lots more of the QST than the Stance skiing Tahoe area, but we Stance guys swear by them! I really dug the 22/23 Kore 93 too not sure which way I'll go next time around honestly. Kore 93 & Stance 96 both handle ice admirably IMO.

First pair of skis I owned were some qst 92s 3 years back. Bought them not really doing much research, more was sold them in a ski shop. Being a little more on the heavy side for my height(5’9” and 210) I think I went too short with 168 cm. I now prefer my armada declivity 92s at 180cm that feel much more stable for my faster pace I like. I definitely think these have a top end as I found them to flex too much plus chatter and would overpower them in the bumps. Wish I could go back and choose two sizes up because I think I may have liked them. But still would recommend them for someone looking to get a bit off trail or their first set

Bob likes stiff carbon skis.. I think he can bend them without the skis becoming too reactive.. Ski Essentials tested Salomon in Utah and I am pretty sure Bob liked all of the skis he demoed.. I know he likes the Head Kore line.. I tested the Kore 99 and it was great on groomers but got stuck in the crud and was too reactive in the crud for me.. I also tested the Salomon QST 106 and it was a big skis that could float over everything.. Is the QST 92 stiff but not reactive like the QST 106? I agree with what you are saying about weight.. Especially in regards to shape.. My Stockli Stormriders do not have the rocker that the QST line has.. There is a fine line of getting stuck in crud and blasting through.. It is also nice to be able to float above the crud without chattering too much..

Yeah totally, I think if you wait until July/ August you will see prices go down slightly, but you run the risk of them selling out your exact size, and then if you're buying 2025's instead you're paying top price. For instance Evo has already sold all of their 2024's and is now selling 2025's the final pair I found was here: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=pl&ti=7417&pw=372417&mi=19201&pt=3&pri=13636 at Utah skis

Back to the Redbull?? Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think you have done a video that focuses on the differences between skis with titanal vs. skis without. Could be interesting and helpful video... Regarding the QST line, most reviewers do not mention that the skis have titanal underfoot for binding retention and "for maximal power and increased hard snow edging." That is a quote from the Salomon website. Wonder why Ski Essentials does not mention that when discussing construction.

@@RicketySkiReviews Ski Essentials has reviewed them but there's little else review online which offers more perspective that I actually find articulate, professional, and accurate enough to get relevant detail out of. I don't change skis often so there's a bigger delta between what I own, and what's current, and I try to find how to relate. I'm highly contemplative, analytical, and perceptive to product details and functions, but there's so much watered down generalization and corporate sales baloney that getting what I need is hard.

@@anthonyalpha4118 I'm running older Volkl Unlimited AC40 and the full length camber is like a woman's foot arch... more radical than any skis I see today. That said, it's not really suited for powder. Runs 82 waist and single-radius at 17.9m. Holds edge like crazy but takes a powerful skier.

Be specific. On trail, off trail, groomer hardpack boiler plate, ability level? I’ve skied Sugarloaf since the 70’s and 95% of the time ski’s in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s underfoot that are stiff work the best overall. Most of the time edge control is a priority. With that said, I see a lot of ‘24 Blizzard Rustler 9’s on the mountain as an all mountain ski. I use an Atomic 95 Ti as my all mountain ski. Head Supershape E Rally as everyday drivers. These work well for me.

It just depends on what you want the ski to do, there are so many good skis out there these days, personally I would like something a bit damp for the more chattery days (I grew up at Burke Mountain) so maybe like a Stockli Stormrider 88 or a Volkl Kendo 88, or overall I would probably bring the new Black Crows Octo for it's versatility honestly.
@GrampyScott
@GrampyScott 5 ай бұрын
@@Ceemysix Elliot forgot to mention the Enforcer 88, one of his favorite line of skis 😁 Honestly though, it is also a great East coast ski for that waist width. I love 82mm waist width skis for the ice coast, but maybe not if you only have a 1 ski quiver.

I consider myself an expert skier. I have been skiing for 45yrs and Ski patrolled professionally for 10yrs. I currently have a Volkl Deacon V Werks for the boiler plate and a Black Crows Mirus Core that I haven’t mounted yet. Still in the box unfortunately, I wish I would have seen your review on the Octo sooner but now I can’t seem to find one in the 184. I have been skiing a Line Super Natural quite a bit but that one is going to be retired. I had just asked because I like to hear other people’s opinions on boiler plate skies because it seem I ski that quite a bit and I think that is the hardest condition to ski. I’m thinking about tying a Atomic Maverick 95Ti but maybe a Shaggy ski because they are made in Michigan. The Shaggy skis have really cool graphics btw. Thanks for your responses. Cheers, W
