I have had succulents grow from leaves that have fallen on the floor, they really will grow if you leave them be. Once the mother leave completely dies off and breaks away, you’ll find the baby to find you baby with its own roots. Just plop that baby into a small pot with its own succulent soil mix, water, and place in a sunny window.

Ignoring them is really the best advice! When I first tried propagating succulents I did a whole fancy arrangement, covered them, spritzed them... All of them failed. Once I started just ignoring them and letting leaves fall, it's been so easy to propagate 🤣

I personally needed to water mine. Otherwise, they died or just never rooted or anything. but that's my own personal experience, and everyone's experience is different! I have heard a lot of people saying ignoring them is the best move, and if that works for you, then that is what you should do! but mine just dry out and die, or if they do hold onto life, they won't create more :') but if I water them a day or two after the dirt drys out, I'll get roots and babies SO damn quickly!! I got a tray with a bunch of sucks on it, and at first, I did ignore it, but like 3 months went by and not even a single root was growing on any of them. then i started watering them, and BAM in a matter of weeks a lot of them have finally rooted and started putting off babies!

DESERT HACK! I tried just leaving my leaves on soil and ignoring them but they failed when I did that... My solution was to drape a sheet of saran wrap on an upright stick and make a little tent over the terra cotta plate and spray like 2x/week. I live in a pretty much zero humidity climate, it helps preserve moisture! Now almost all my leaves make babies, I have soo many lil beefs

Try putting them in a spot that receives a little morning sunlight and regular daylight throughout the day. I’ve struggled and tried so many variations but the best is to ignore them in a bright location. Maybe a window that you open a little during the day, but not a hot place. If it’s too hot, the leaves will simply shrivel up

I am currently trying to propagate succulents! I have several containers full of about 30 leaves. So far, I have one super tiny baby plant and one that is possibly a plant and possibly not, I can‘t quite tell yet. I sprayed some of the containers with water once but not all of them and now I am just ignoring them. They probably get enough moisture from the mother leaf. I‘m super excited where this will go and I can‘t wait for my little plants to grow so I can proudly show everyone I know my babies ☺️

In my experience, I find watering succulent leaves every 2-3 days helps them to grow much faster. 😄 Once they are outgrowing their place, I repot, and start watering them twice per week to acclimate, and eventually water only every other week, or as necessary. (once the leaves are looking a li'l too tender)

I've been playing around with different ways to propagate succies. My favorite so far is using this boot shot glass filled with pebbles. leave it in the window with some sun and put a few drops of water in there. it stays nice and humid as the water evaporates upwards and encourages them to reach down real far with their roots. Full spectrum LED bulbs work great as grow lights and can be put into any lamp, which is much cheaper than a whole grow light :) Also, haworthia are a great variety of succulent that don't require much light compared to other succs (though you still wanna keep them close to a window/grow light if possible). And as a rule of thumb, any plant that's more green/dark green will do better in low-light spaces than colorful/variegated ones, as they're more efficient at photosynthesis!
@maggiedk
@maggiedk Жыл бұрын
Some great low-light plants in my experience: ZZ plants, green heartleaf philodendron, mostly green aglaonemas, neon/jade/golden pothos, any green dracaena variety, scindapsus argyraeus (aka silver/satin pothos), & peace lilies. Hope this helps!
@seanathanbeanathan
@seanathanbeanathan Жыл бұрын
My rule of thumb (especially with succs) is the greener the plant, the less light it needs. This is because dispersing the light through other colors can help protect the plant from sun damage (can't really explain more than that, I was a bio kid and dropped out of physics). So, a red echiveria will likely need a lot of direct light to not stretch but a green aloe won't be able to handle that. Also try to avoid succs with a powder coat on top, thats another adaptation for high light. I'd say go for pothos or burro's tail. If you can get a growlight, try seeing if you can find an aloe "swordfish", they're a green succulent but their rough ridges can get beautifully red/ pink with enough light. Also try to avoid the blue-purple grow lights, I've had a lot of stretched succs from them 😭 Look for plants that people say can be kept in the bathroom, as well, since they usually do well in lower light (most people don't have huge, south-facing windows in their bathrooms 😂). This is really all over the place but I hope I could help at all ❤ also be sure to check toxicity if you have pets. Pothos are toxic to most pets, and lillies will k*ll cats 9 times out of 10.
